4.0 out of 5 stars Canon XS/1000D for Dunnies, February 9, 2010

This review is from: Canon EOS Rebel XS/1000D For Dummies (Paperback)
I also think this was a well written book. Having read David D. Busch's book on the Canon Rebel XS - which also is an excellent book - I picked up a copy of the XS book for dummies and knew I also wanted this book - of course Amazon was the place to purchase it as it saved me $10 dollars - the book by Busch - was a excellent book on all the features of the Canon Rebel XS - but really did not go into a lot of sample photographs and the setting to be used in certain aspects of taking those photographs. "The Canon EOS Rebel XS/1000D for Dummies",(CFD)- shows many setting for different aspects of photography - From Busch's' book I learned how to operate the Canon Rebel XS - from the CFD I learned how to take photographs and the settings (Shutter speed, aperture, ISO, exposure, and depth of field understanding) needed to take great photographs. I use the term photographs instead of pictures - because to me - anyone can take a picture - but to take a photograph - you must have the understanding of the camera/lens/ and ability to compose what your looking at - to bring it to life - in a photograph. The Canon EOS Rebel XS/1000D for Dummies - did exactly that. Made me understand - therefore - I fully recommend the book and do not let the dummy part mislead you - there is a lot to learn from this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars A book for people new to digital cameras, December 25, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Canon EOS Rebel XS/1000D For Dummies (Paperback)
It's a well written book. It makes learning to use the camera much easier than the little instruction booklet that comes with the camera. The book assumes you don't know anything about digital cameras so it explains even the most basic operations. If you have used digital cameras before, you can skip the basic stuff and still learn a lot about your camera that you might not discover on your own.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not quite for Dummies, February 1, 2010

Although I was really into photography many years ago, a great many things have changed: lingo, acronyms etc. This "for Dummies" book jumps right in to how to use this particular camera vs your existing SLR which you use in your career as a professional photographer.
I was really hoping for at least a chapter to review basic photographic terms and how they are applied when using a camera above the level of a point-and-shoot model.
Overall a very well done book that no-doubt will serve as a great reference tool for years to come. However, It does miss the mark as a true "for Dummies" guide.
