I only wish I had bought it sooner. The results of this camera are really spectacular. I have been using SLR's for the last 10 years and have also used several Point & Shoot cameras. I can honestly say that this compares to one of the best P&S. I used to be skeptical of APS film but this camera made a believer out of me (I used Fuji Super 200 film processed at Walmart 1hr).Indoor, outdoor, landscape, panoramic you name it and it does an excellent job at it. For it's tiny size the flash does a terrific job too. The only APS camera with a fast f/2.8 lens (Note: the smaller the number the better the lens). Cons: 1.) Doesn't have zoom = In 95% of pictures you really don't need zoom. Also makes it easier to hand to others to take your photos. 2.) No MRC(Mid Roll Change) = Not something most of will ever require. Bottom line: I would very highly recommend this camera to anyone looking for a good quality APS camera. I would also recommend getting the RC-5 remote and a small flexible tripod for it.

Does the job and it's super portable to boot!,

One of the biggest concerns anyone has about APS cameras is the quality of the photos. With a much smaller negative, it's easy to worry about graininess in your prints. Don't worry about it! At the standard size of 4x7, APS prints are indistinguishable from 35mm 4x6 prints. (There are some other pros out there who will claim otherwise - they may just be extreme perfectionists).Panoramic photos are another thing though. You can easily detect increased grain in panoramic shots (And why not? You're cropping the neg and blowing it up to the detail level of an 8x10). The panoramic features in APS cameras are, IMHO, just a gimmick. But should that deter you from buying an APS camera? My answer is no. The most likeable feature of these puppies is their small size (particularly the Elph series). The worst shot in your album is the one you didn't take 'coz you didn't bring your camera. I had my Elph strapped to my belt for 3-days in Disneyland and was just snapping to and fro. You can wear it and almost think it's not there. If you need a longer zoom and the ability to switch films in mid-roll, look into the Elph 370Z (Amazon doesn't carry it at the time of my commentary). You may want to look at Olympus iZoom if you want a splash-proof camera. Overall, the Elph however is a good camera for it's price range and abilities.

Red eye city!,
This review is from: Canon Elph Jr. APS Camera (Electronics)
The Elph Jr. is a great camera, no doubt about that. I own the older black matte finish Jr. There are some things that are not mentioned here that are important though. I notice that there is a lot of red eye in my photos. After doing my research, this has to do with the fact that the flash is so close to the lens. Notice how the other Elph models have flashes that are mobile (i.e. they move *away* from the lens)? This is to prevent the terrible red-eye issues. The Elph Jr. has no such protection. The flash is also weak, which is a bit of disappointment. The camera also doesn't support mid-roll change, which can be obnoxious if you don't use up rolls of film quickly. Otherwise, the pictures are good. You *can* see the grain, especially in panoramic shots, but it isn't a big deal. This camera is ultra small, which means you can put it in your jeans pocket and take it with you anywhere. Developing costs more, but they also can use the picture data encoded on the film to correct for some poor shots (light levels, etc.)

Excellent Miniature for the money..........,

I own one of the original Elf Jr.'s (with the matt black body). I've carried this camera all over the US on vacations and everyday travel. For compactness and ease of carry it can't be beat and one can't complain about the features for the price. The picture quality never fails to amaze me. The APS system in the Elf takes better shots than some more expensive point and shoot cameras in my collection. I will eventually pass this on to my daughter and buy a next generation Elf (but not in the immediate future).

I ride a Harley with several friends and take a few extended rides each summer. The compactness of the Elph Jr. is ideal for just strapping on my belt without the worry of it being banged around or being too cumbersome. It is great at the biker rallies when I need it handy and to take that quick snapshot. A zoom would be nice, but for my use, really not necessary. For the price, the quality and options that this camera provides, cannot be beat.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Canon Elph Jr. APS Camera (Electronics)
I bought a Canon ELPH Jr. APS camera to take along on a trip to Spain. I bought it for my girlfriend as I planned to take my SLR. After watching her use if for a couple days, I started taking pictures with it and found I really liked it. It is small and very easy to carry. Most museums in Madrid would not allow camera but the Canon ELPH Jr fit into my pocket like a pack of cigarettes and the only place it was detected was at the Prado Museum where the metal detector picked it up.The picture quality was good and I had film developed in Spain without problem. The caption feature is a waste but the time stamp on the back of the picture is useful. I liked the camera so much that I bought another one to give to my parents as a gift. it is easy to use, takes good pictures, and is not a hassle to lug around.

TAKE IT SKIING,
By A Customer

I've always wanted a camera that travels well when skiing and this is the camera that does it! It fits right into my jacket pocket without a noticeable bulge and I can take it out on top of the mountain or stop midway and take a picture! The only drawback is the lack of zoom, but the ELPH series does have a camera the same size as this that has a zoom and that is the one I would most recommend.

I received this camera as a gift 6 months ago. I keep it in my purse and I have NEVER missed a photo op. Friends and co-workers come running whenever a pic needs to be taken, so I am a pretty popular person, as well! The photos, more importantly, are awesome! I have never taken so many panoramic shots before, and they are now truly my favorites. The camera is foolproof, reliable, user friendly. I never grab another camera anymore. I love it!

This camera offers it all in a lightweight and compact camera. Canon has done a wonderful job with this one. I have taken it with me everywhere I go and it's so light you sometimes forget you have it. The quality of the pictures have also been excellent and I have had no problems with red eye. I liked it so much I just bought another for a friend. Excellent!

I bought this camera a year ago, have made approx. 30 rolls, and I am very happy with it. It is durable (once I dropped it from a height of 1 meter onto a concrete floor, no problems), compact, light, makes excellent pictures, and is easy to use. A few things that I don't like about it are the fact that after turning the camera off my flash settings are reset, the buttons are tiny (although usable), and developing APS film is expensive (not a fault of this camera of course).
