Beautifully sculpted, easy to use, and fully featured, the Elura 90 is a heralded addition to family gatherings, sporting events, and those once-in-a-lifetime special occasions.

The highlight of the Elura 90 is Canon's advanced DV Photo Plus technology, which combines Genuine Canon Optics and a Mega Pixel CCD image sensor, with a Digic DV image processor and versatile Print and Share features. Take stunning digital photos while simultaneously shooting video, treat your family and friends to high-resolution 16:9 widescreen images, and edit your digital videos and photos into the perfect family album for playback on a TV or computer. Since the Elura 90 is compatible with both Windows XP and Apple computer systems, there is no limit to the creative possibilities.

When you own an Elura 90 digital camcorder, you also get the benefit of Canon's world-renowned technical expertise in photography and broadcast television. Shoot with the confidence Canon's superior optics and image-processing power provide.

Experience the Canon Difference: DV Photo Plus
Canon's DV Photo Plus achieves premium quality video and photos by combining four features; Genuine Canon Optics, a Mega Pixel CCD image sensor, Digic DV image processor, and Print and Share. The moment you watch video on a TV or hold a print in your hand, the difference is clear. DV Photo Plus unleashes the full digital imaging power of your Canon camcorder, promising a superior level of clarity, color, and excellence to video and photos.

Capture Life in All Its Brilliant Color and Clarity
Preserve every hue of a summer sunset or backyard garden thanks to the Elura 90's 1.33-megapixel image sensor. The product of Canon ingenuity and technological expertise, the image sensor achieves high-resolution results whether recording video to DV tape or still images onto a memory card. Photos can be captured at a variety of different image qualities and compression sizes (Superfine/Fine/Normal) giving you the ability to balance quantity with quality.

Get It All in with True Widescreen Recording
Treat your family and friends to high-resolution 16:9 widescreen videos that are perfect on a wide-screen home theatre system. Unlike some camcorders that record a vertically stretched picture, the Elura 90 uses the full width of its Mega Pixel CCD. The result is a wide-screen picture that has superior quality and shows more of the action happening at either end of the screen.

See Farther with Optical and Digital Zooms
The Elura 90 gives you the ability to zoom in on hard to see details with its 20x optical zoom/400x digital zoom lens. The result of Canon's vast expertise in designing and crafting precision lenses for 35mm and broadcast TV cameras, the optical/digital zoom delivers superior imagery with vibrant color and clarity. In addition, your Elura 90 kit includes a WA-34 Wide Attachment (0.7x), giving you a wide perspective for indoor shots or panoramic views.

SD Memory Card/MultiMediaCard Slots
For convenient storage and portability of your still images, the Elura 90 features a built-in slot for SD (Secure Digital) Memory Cards and MultiMediaCards. You can also store Motion JPEG mini-movies directly on the removable card for later attaching to e-mails or posting on the Web. Shoot in two different resolutions, 320 x 240 or 160 x 120, for the full duration of the SD Memory Card.

Keep It Simple with Direct Print Features
The first camcorders to offer a Print/Share button, the Elura series makes direct printing and downloading images to a computer a quick, easy, and enjoyable task. When the Elura 90 is connected to a printer, the Print/Share button lights up blue, letting you know that you can begin printing simply by pressing it once. You can also transfer a photo directly to your computer, with just a single press of the button.

Light up the Night with Vibrant Videos
For an even more intense lighting boost, switch on the Elura 90's built-in mini video light, located on the front of the camcorder. Exclusive to the Elura 90, the mini video light is three times brighter than the white LED offered by the Elura 85, giving you the ability to shoot in extreme low-light situations.

One press of the Night Mode and the Elura 90 automatically selects a slow shutter speed and increases the sensitivity of the CCD to brighten up your subject, while still preserving color.

New to the Elura-series camcorders, the Elura 90 features a built-in flash so you can light up your subject when taking high-resolution digital photos.

Catch All the Action Without the Shake
Shoot videos that look smooth, steady and natural... even when shooting hand-held at full telephoto. Working behind the scenes is Canon's high quality Image Stabilization system, which is able to correct camcorder shake instantly.

LCD Backlight
When shooting outdoors, the Elura 90's bright 2.5-inch LCD view screen features an LCD Backlight button that boosts the displays brightness by 250%. Now it's easier than ever to compose sensational shots without having to squint into the viewfinder. You can also rotate the screen for high-or low-angle shots, or turn it around 180 to record yourself. When you're done shooting, the screen is perfect for reviewing your scenes.

Do More with Bonus Software
The Elura Kit comes complete with bonus software for image management and editing: ZoomBrowser EX (Windows) and ImageBrowser (Macintosh). Download, browse, archive, and retouch your photos, or have your images automatically resized for e-mail. The software also assists with arranging images for printing and even adding text.

The MiniDV format offers more precise image detail and color accuracy than previously possible with analog camcorders. The superior quality of digital video results from:

  • Higher Resolution: Up to 530 lines of horizontal resolution, on select models for sharper picture detail
  • CompOnent Color Sampling: Preserves three times more color information than analog VHS and S-VHS video, for brighter and truer colors

5.0 out of 5 stars THIS CAMERA DOES IT ALL!, June 21, 2005
This review is from: Canon Elura 90 MiniDV Camcorder w/20x Optical Zoom (Electronics)
In researching digital camcorders I prefer to rely on the experts. Apparently there's a guy on this site who has it out for Canon for some reason, and has blasted this camcorder in particular. But... read all of his "other" reviews, and you'll see that he blasts the ENTIRE Canon line, as if he's actually bought each camera and found fault with each of them. Clearly impossible, and clearly a person with an agenda. Ignore him. For an honest review of the Canon Elura Digital Cameras, specifically the Elura 90, read the write-up on CNET.com... perhaps the best site for technical reviews and pricing information. Not only did they point me in the direction of a GREAT digital video camera, the CNET.com site also saved me over $200.00 from the big box retail prices! This camcorder does it all, and then some! True, you will need to be able to read in order to study the manual and unlock it's capabilities, and you will need to be able to independently manuever your fingers to operate it, and it's helpful if you can walk and talk at the same time... but if you can do all of those things... you can work this camcorder... and enjoy it! One recommendation though... don't buy a digital camcorder if you have no intention of truly utilizing its capabilities... or if you have no desire to network/connect it to your PC and either save and/or create your own movies/DVDs. THAT is the true innovation behind the technology. Using MicroSoft MovieMaker 2.1 I have been able to make incredible home movies... soundtrack... narration... effects... the works. With my old analog camcorder I could... save them and watch them as recorded... nothing more. But... if you DO want to enter the digital age... and you want the best camcorder possible at the best possible price... the Canon Elura 90 can't be beat! PLUS... it is one of the ONLY high quality camcorders that allows you to CONVERT your old analog tapes into a digital format... and it can also function as a WEBCAM! As I said, this one does it all![...]

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent little camcorder, September 27, 2005

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Canon Elura 90 MiniDV Camcorder w/20x Optical Zoom (Electronics)
This was my first comcorder purchase, and after thorough research using Consumer Reports as well as much satisfaction with my Canon 510 digital camera, I decided on this one.

Widescreen recording, even though it's not High-Definition, is essential as all future TV purchases for myself as well as most of my family and friends will be larger screen. Recording in the 16:9 mode prevents the picture from having to be stretched on such TVs to fill the entire screen.

Very easy to use. Microphone range is sufficient. Remote works well. Still pictures from the camera are good enough for websites, emails, and small prints. Switching from tape to memory card mode is easy.

The power switch is easily turned on, and does at times when storing your camcorder in a bag with other items. However, the camcorder shuts off automatically after a few minutes of unuse, so I have never noticed battery drain from such occurences.

Acquired free video software from an existing rebate program by Cannon & Pinnacle--shockingly, the installation CD took less than 2 weeks to be delivered. Note: you will need a 4-6 or 4-4 PIN firewire cable to transfer video to your computer (Make sure you order one from Amazon, or else face spending at least $20 more at Office Depot, CompUSA, etc.)

Have only had it a few months, so I cannot attest its durability. However, I am very pleased with its performance so far. (Note: I purchased this via one of Amazon.com's web merchants, J&R Music and Computer World, and was extremely satisfied with their speed.)

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good digital camcorder, November 20, 2005
This review is from: Canon Elura 90 MiniDV Camcorder w/20x Optical Zoom (Electronics)
This is my first camcorder, and I have done a lot of research on which camcorder to buy. I bought it in August,2005, and used in extensively when I went to Rome and Barcelona. It was easy to use, and the video inside the cathedral came out clear even though it was very dark inside. I even saw details from the ceiling which I did not see when I was looking at it with my naked eye. I like the ability to take photos , only at times I forgot to switched between tape and card. I was in a panic when I was trying to chnage tape because I could not make the tape pop out, but after some practice I got it right. The videos were very steady, I am sure of it because after sometimes my arms gets tired and started shaking while taking videos or photos, but amazingly when I was watching the vidoe and reviewing the photo they all came out clear, and have no evidence that my arms were shaking. My only prolem is to figure out how to get a good video or photo with the sunlight facing the camera. This was a good buy.
