5.0 out of 5 stars Works great and long lasting
We purchased an additional battery to have while we went on vacation. We were several days into the vacation before we needed the spare and it lasted the remainder of the trip (and trust me I take alot of photos). Very pleased with purchase.

Don't buy this item unless you want a cheap, imitation battery. It is not a Canon battery and will not perform as it is advertised. I purchased this battery based upon the photograph which depicted the product as being a genuine Canon battery. I have two others, so I know what they look like. The product sent to me was an inexpensive imitation, not an original Canon Battery. In reading other reviews, I see that this seller made this substitution before. This is consumer fraud. I have attached a photo of the comparison between the original Canon battery which I own, and the substitution provided by this seller.

1.0 out of 5 stars I can't believe Amazon would sell a fake!, May 18, 2011

There is a first for everything! I just received a battery from Amazon as a seller (I paid $10 more assuming that Amazon wouldn't risk its reputation to sell Chinese junk) and I received a battery today. It arrived in a plastic baggie, scotchtaped with a hair on it. I compared it to the original battery that came with my camera and as you can see from uploaded pictures, obviously this one is a fake. For $44 bucks I can buy 10 fake ones on the "auction site". I'm so disappointed. It's going back.

I paid $56 for what I thought was an OEM battery (manufactured by Canon). The battery pack I received appeared to be genuine, except for the following characteristics:

1. The battery strength meter in the camera goes from fully charged (all bars) to a flashing red "change battery" icon with no reduction in bars. This is an indicator that the battery pack is not genuine Canon.
2. The battery pack only lasts ~200 pictures with flash (the OEM pack lasts something like 450).
3. The writing on the pack is blurry and not as dark as the OEM battery.
4. The seam of the case on my battery has some warbles at the seam; the OEM battery does not.

Caveat Emptor (buyer beware)!

1.0 out of 5 stars Counterfeit item, May 3, 2011

Item didn't fit in camera, so I contacted Canon for assistance. They asked for pictures and it turns out the item is fake. In most cases, Amazon is not shipping these items and verifying their authenticity.

If I had known this at the time, I would have either bought from somewhere other than Amazon, or, if I could live with a non-OEM, get a reliable non-OEM at a lower cost. But a fake that didn't work at 80% of full price is unacceptable. Seller/Amazon refunded my money, but nothing is being done to stop the fakes from being sold and the next guy is just as likely to be burned as I was.

I posted pictures of the fakes and originals. You'll never know if you don't really look closely, everything seems legit at first. Please, if you decide to order from Amazon despite all the bad reviews, please at least check the pictures and compare the colors with your original OEM battery before your returns window closes.

Buyer beware!

1.0 out of 5 stars Not made by Canon - even if Amazon is the vendor, July 17, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Canon LP-E8 Battery Pack for Canon Digital Rebel T2i and T3i Digital SLR Cameras (Retail Package) (Electronics)
I purposely selected Amazon as the vendor when I bought this battery even though there were many other lower cost vendors. I thought if I ordered it from Amazon directly then it would be an authentic Canon battery. However, the battery I received was not made by Canon. In fact, it took me several minutes to pry the battery from the yellow plastic casing - which was my first clue because Canon batteries normally pop in out and of the backing very easily. If I wanted to buy a generic battery - I would have chosen one of the lower cost vendors and bought the battery for $30 instead of paying $45 to buy it from Amazon. I returned this battery to Amazon.

I ordered this item and it was shipped from Commercial Solutions Consulting. It is NOT a Canon brand battery as pictured. I assumed that this issue was probably old and had been taken care of, but it has not. Buyer beware!

1.0 out of 5 stars Counterfeit Canon battery, August 21, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Canon LP-E8 Battery Pack for Canon Digital Rebel T2i and T3i Digital SLR Cameras (Retail Package) (Electronics)
I buy this product thinking that it is a canon product but it turns out to be a counterfeit. They put the battery in a canon packaging but the prints ( including the Canon logo) on the battery is fuzzy. I paid almost $50 for this and I could of get a generic one for $10. I can tell it is fake since the battery just die without warning when the battery is used up. The real one does not do that. Unfortunately, it is sold by 3rd party although it is fulfilled by Amazon. Never buy something like this again. Beware.

1.0 out of 5 stars Look elsewhere for an official Canon product, May 20, 2011

Like many others have commented, I too received a 3rd-party battery. I have not tested it, though it did charge. Specifically says "Battery FOR Canon....", not "Cannon Battery". I purchased this product due to the description of "Canon LP-E8 Battery Pack", so it is disappointing to receive what I got.

According to Amazon, listing something other than the exact product is not allowed, so I'm sad to see Amazon allowing (or even joining in on... according to some reviews) this practice.

If an official battery is what you're looking for, look elsewhere.

2.0 out of 5 stars * What appears to be "authentic" is anything but real..., May 21, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

All indicators lean towards this being an authentic, it is not. The main thing Canon tells you to look for is the lettering. Compare it to an OEM Canon battery that came with your DSLR. The lettering on the "real" one is VERY crisp and sharp. The lettering on the aftermarket Canon (fake) one's are blurry. The OEM is a nice crisp white background with black lettering. The aftermarket is cream with light grey smeared lettering. The difference is VERY easy to spot side by side. The batteries made by 3rd party vendors are supposed to be safer for your camera, but the one's branded Canon that are NOT Canon are supposedly the one's to be cautious of. Be careful with the Canon one's that are not authentic. Spend the $10 or $12 on the 3rd party one's. Either way, if it's not a $60 OEM one bought at a local store, watch it carefully in your expensive DSLR. I know I am.....
