5.0 out of 5 stars Size of Batteries
My BP-819, which works great and most day in Disney lasted the whole day. With original battery being my backup. One thing I could not find on the net was the sizes of the Canon batteries. And the paperwork that came with my Canon BP-819 gives all of the follow dimensions

BP-808 1.2x0.9x1.6in (30.7x23.3x40.2mm) 1.6oz (46g) 890mAh
BP-809 1.2x1.1x1.6in...

3.0 out of 5 stars Canon BP-819 5.5 hour battery
It sure works as advertised, but the price for this proprietary piece of gear is extortionary (my word). I got 5.5 hours on a Canon HG20 at maximum quality. It also takes 4.5 hours to charge.

5.0 out of 5 stars Size of Batteries, March 6, 2010

My BP-819, which works great and most day in Disney lasted the whole day. With original battery being my backup. One thing I could not find on the net was the sizes of the Canon batteries. And the paperwork that came with my Canon BP-819 gives all of the follow dimensions

BP-809 1.2x1.1x1.6in (30.7x27.5x40.2mm) 1.7oz (47g) 890mAh
BP-819 1.2x1.6x1.6in (30.7x39.4x40.2mm) 3.0oz (85g) 1780mAh
BP-827 1.2x2.2x1.6in (30.7x55.7x40.2mm) 4.3oz (121g) 2670mAh

So, from this it should help determine how far the battery will stick out from the back of your camera. And how much additional weight and battery life you will get with each.

5.0 out of 5 stars The natural Choice to make, August 20, 2008
By
This review is from: Canon BP-819 Lithium Ion Battery Pack for HF10, HF100 HF S & HF M Camcorders (Retail Packaging) (Electronics)
This is the battery that should come with your video camera by default.

What do you do if you want to record events that last longer than 1.5 hours ? You upgrade the battery, right.

The BP-827 (4.5h) is not easy available yet everywhere so the BP-819 becomes the only choice.

It can last close to 3h and thats enough to capture most events.
(Fireworks, school event of your kid, concerts, theatre etc.).

With the external charger the battery is charged in roughly the same time (3h) with the cameras included charger its taking 4h.

5.0 out of 5 stars Terrific buy!, July 3, 2008

This battery is the best investment you can make for your HF-100. Whereas the default battery lasts under an hour, this one lasts easily over two hours with very little extra weight. It is a little larger but I find the larger size actually helps me stabilize while using the camera by placing my thumb under the battery. I wouldn't own the HF-100 camera without this battery.

The battery that comes with Canon HF10 doesn't last enough in a day recording. So, an extra battery is indispensable. This one last about 2 hous. It's a little expensive, and unfortunately its bigger and comes out of the camera. If you have the HF100 model, this battery is only available in black, not matching the camera's color.

4.0 out of 5 stars Better than Generics - Doesn't Stick Out, October 2, 2009

If you use a generic battery your camera will ask you to verify that you want to use it each time it's turned on. And larger capacity batteries stick out real far from your camera making it more bulky.

Having to verify that I want to use a generic all the time sounds like a hassle to me and negates the quick start feature of my HFS10. So, in spite of the needless price gouging by Canon, I recommend that people stick with Canon branded batteries. You also get the advantage of a battery life indicator that tells you how much usage time you have left.

I also prefer the BP-819 over the BP-827 since the latter is much longer and sticks out from the camera a lot more. The BP-827 gives longer recording times but I don't care for the trade off of a bigger camera. Between the BP-819 and the original battery that came with my HFS10, I have plenty of recording time and my overall camera size remains compact. And I don't have to verify the batteries when I turn on my cam -- best of all scenarios for my tastes. So if we're stuck paying through the nose for a Canon battery, why not save a few bucks and go with the 819 0ver the 827? Makes sense to me.

Bottom line -- ya, it costs a lot, but you spent a lot on your camera, so don't get stingy with the battery and bring the performance of your whole camera down along with it. When you're out in the field shooting (and every time you turn your camera on for that matter) you'll be glad you got this brand name over any generic.

5.0 out of 5 stars Regarding battery physical size on an HF S100 . . ., March 31, 2010

This battery fits very nicely on the Vixia HF S100. Keeping the overall size of the camera/battery combo was important to me since I already decided to accept a larger camera size (for the larger lens and sensor).

I had a hard time deciding between this and the BP-827. I first got an 827, but when it was clear the 827 was going to stick out the back of this camcorder nearly 2 cm and make it harder to access the record button with my thumb, I decided to go with the BP-819 instead. The HF S100 stock battery, the BP-807, measures 35 mm front to back. The 819 measures 39 mm front to back. And the 827 measures 55 mm. This battery sticks out only 4 mm farther than the stock battery, which is recessed by 2-3 mm from the back of the camera to begin with. Therefore this battery only protrudes a couple of mm, and actually protrudes less than the camera's record button and mode selection knob. The overall physical size of the camera/819 combo is not noticeably enlarged relative to the stock battery, and the 819 looks like it "belongs" on the camera.

If the physical size of the camera/battery combo is important to you, I would suggest the 819 over the 827.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must-have for the field shooter!, May 27, 2008
This review is from: Canon BP-819 Lithium Ion Battery Pack for HF10, HF100 HF S & HF M Camcorders (Retail Packaging) (Electronics)
I got two of these and with the stock 809 battery with the camera, I hardly ever run out of juice while shooting in the field. I use 16Gb SDHC's and they make a perfect pair.

2hr battery = 16Gb

My only problem now is storage, storage, storage!

4.0 out of 5 stars What your HG20 is waiting for., February 24, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Canon BP-819 Lithium Ion Battery Pack for HF10, HF100 HF S & HF M Camcorders (Retail Packaging) (Electronics)
There's not too much one can really say about a battery, is there?

The BP-819 charges quickly in my Canon VIXIA HG20, the plastic matches the camera, and it only sticks out of the back by a few millimeters. The BP-808 battery that came with my HG20 lasts for just under two hours. This one lasts just under four.

My only complaint is that Canon has made their batteries so hyper-proprietary, that they can (and do) charge tons of money for them. Fortunately, Amazon's price is MUCH lower than any brick-and-mortar store I've been to.

5.0 out of 5 stars Canon BP-819 for Canon HF-S100, May 21, 2009
This review is from: Canon BP-819 Lithium Ion Battery Pack for HF10, HF100 HF S & HF M Camcorders (Retail Packaging) (Electronics)
This is a great battery. It is only a fraction bigger (1/8" to 3/16" estimate) than the original that came with the camcorder. Based on other reviews I was really concerned about the size and weight of this battery. My old camcorder had an extended life battery 2.5 x the size of the standard battery, so after going forth and back for two days I decided the worst that can happen is to return it and loose the shipping costs. I use 16GB cards and could not run the battery down with one of these cards (80 min). This is the battery that should have been included with the product, but I assume that is how they make their money. They know everybody will by the extended battery. I found the best price at Amazon and would highly recommend buying this item. Two of these would be great, but for now I'll use this one as my main battery and the one that came in the box as a backup.

4.0 out of 5 stars A little bulky and doesn't match color of Canon HF100, May 27, 2008

C-Money (Sugar Land, TX) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Canon BP-819 Lithium Ion Battery Pack for HF10, HF100 HF S & HF M Camcorders (Retail Packaging) (Electronics)
I bought this mainly for vacations but it's only used as a backup. I use this on the Canon HF100. It sticks out about half an inch and the color doesn't match. Why doesn't Canon make a silver color version of this? The do for the 809. The camcorder shows around 100 min on a full charge. I brought this camcorder to Disney World and only used the small battery most of the time. I've used this backup once in a while but never ran it down. Even for its size, it's not heavy. I don't noticed that the weight difference between this and the 809 other than that it sticks out and the color doesn't match. After that, you forget about it and never look back.
