GREAT printer at an incredible price!!!,
By GaryTucson (Utah) - See all my reviews

I have been a HUGE fan of Canon printers for many years. In fact I have only bought Canon for my own computers, having listened to complaints and problems about every other brand from all of my friends.
The price alone on this MP480 (I paid $49.50 for it, with a $20 mail in rebate-making the total cost less than $30!!!!) makes it an incredible value, but it is also the best one yet for printing speed, quality and functionality. I LOVE the fact that it will print, copy AND scan all in one very compact machine! Goodbye stand-alone HP scanner, I never cared much for you anyway. And the fact that you can print photos from your camera and make copies without the computer even being turned on, is just awesome. Not only does it support pictbridge (plugging your camera into the printer) but it also has slots for your memory cards and a pop-up screen with a very functional menu to take care of almost any printing need, sans computer! It was a snap to set up, installed without a single glitch and, unlike the other reviewer who had difficulty with what they perceived as an antiquated, unhelpful print-head alignment program, I also found that process to be simple, fast and easy. PLEASE NOTE: If this is your first USB printer, you will need to purchase a USB cable because it doesn't come with one. So, why not 5 stars? I do have two complaints: 1. The best thing to come along with printers in the last 15 years was Canon's innovative use of separate cartridges for each color. They last 10 times longer and save money by ONLY having to replace the single color that is out. There is only one possible reason why Canon has decided to stray from that smart technology - MONEY. Less ink in a more expensive cartridge means more money in Canon's pockets. Still, these cartridges are cheaper than comparable ones for Epson or Lexmark printers and I have NOT found that the ink 'disappears' any faster than other brands with a similar quantity of ink (buy the 'XL' replacement cartridges for a better value) 2. I loved the auto-shut off feature of my ip2000. I never had to turn it off or power it back up. When I needed to print, I simply hit the 'print' key and it did it's thing. The MP480 either needs to stay on all the time (the menu screen does turn itself off after 5 minutes of non-use) or you have to turn it on and let it go through it's lengthy routine every time you want to use it. That said, the 'quiet' mode is quiet, the print quality is superb and the footprint on my desk isn't much more than my ip2000 and the multifunction MP480 allowed me to get rid of my bulky scanner, so even with it's two drawbacks, this one is a definite keeper!

This photo printer does a great job. Seriously. People are surprised when I tell them I printed it on my home printer. I can tell the difference, but I do have to agree that the quality is far superior to what I would expect from such an inexpensive printer. The ink absolutely DOES disappear quickly, and that is my one complaint. I love everything else about this printer!

I got this printer Pixma MP480 two weeks back and it rocks. It prints awesome photoes. The print quality of color and B & W documents is awesome. I scanned my tax documents I got from Financial Institutions and converted them into pdf documents and the pdf documents came gr8888. I don't know why many people didn't know about this printer. I paid $69.99 @ Amazon.com. I printed the photoes on both glossy paper and Canon Matty paper and it's amazing. I wouldn't print the pictures I hang in the frames using this printer. But, the print quality is scrap book quality. The Easy-PhotoPrinter EX is awesome. It is a wizard like software which walks through the screens. I'm totally satisfied... The catridges also cost very less compared to other catridges.

This is a compact all-in-one printer (about the length and width of a laptop). The software and flip up screen are very easy to use and the color quality of the copier is excellent. It also has a quiet mode for printing after dark. It uses a large deal of ink, but so do all of the Canon inkjet printers. Overall, a good value, but they forgot one thing. There is no auto power-on/off setting, so you either have to leave the printer on all the time or turn it on every time you wish to use it.

All-In-One Printer - Needs Met,

First Canon Printer purchase for me. I've been a faithiful HP printer user for over 10-years, but this deal was to good to let go.
I needed a scanner, right away. So, when I did my research the all-in-one reviews on this one were excellent. I changed from a HP to this Canon. I was very sceptical, but for two months now this printer has exceeded my expectations. The only test which I have not really done is printing multiple pictures at one time. Scanning, 8x10 color photos and documents have been excellent. I would definately reccomend it.

We bought this to replace an HP all-in-one that was awful. This Canon printer is awesome--fast printing, great quality, and we don't have to feed the paper in one page at a time! We've been using it for a few weeks now, have printed photos and text and used the copier, and have no complaints whatsoever. Couldn't be happier with this printer.

Canon MP480 printer/scanner/copier,

Previously I owned a Canon i860 printer and a Canon Canoscan Lide 20 Scanner. Both units were over 4 years old and it was time to replace them. I wanted to go Canon because they have great quality. I looked on Amazon to find a resonably priced unit. I didn't realize what a great deal I got until I received the unit. The MP480 is a great unit, it's compact and the print quality is excellent, as well as the picture print quality. A lot has happened over the last 4+ years with Canon's printers. The best feature that the printer has is that it totally closes up and keeps the dust out of the unit, as anyone who has electronic devices, dust is the enemy. The readout screen is a plus to review photos on and the ability to print pictures off of the SD card is wonderful. With my i860 when I went to print pictures I had an extra component that adapted into printer to print photos, there is no such adapter on this unit, the photo paper feeds in the unit just like the paper. Overall it's a full funtion unit and I recommend this printer/scanner/copier as a great upgrade to your home office.

Works fine, but eats a lot of ink!!,

The price on this printer was great, I bought it just to print a newsletter that I send out every month. I used to print this on a Pixma IP3500 and used 2 1/2 black cartridges at $13 each. This one used 4 cartridges at over $20 each! I'd have trouble recommending this one, the cheap price will be quickly made up by the cost of the ink!

I purchased this printer at a different retailer. I have had this printer for over a month and so far I have no problems with it. I really like this printer. It prints quickly and I don't have to feed one paper at a time. The only thing I can say that I don't like about it is that it uses ink up pretty quickly.

Adequate, but buggy,

It gets the job done, but as someone in another review said, not without a ten minute drum solo first. Also, it seems to have issues printing from certain programs, such as Firefox web browser, for which it can randomly cause to crash.
