Home Desktop Printers: the Ink SUVs of Our Times,

This review is from: Canon PG-210 Black Cartridge (2974B001) (Office Product)
Thank goodness the Third Party sellers are coming out with cheaper ink cartridges. I doubt they are OEM, but would be pleasantly surprised if they are.
Anyway I just installed a new PG-210 black ink cart. after the original one ran dry in about a month of owning my new MP-240 printer. Not a lot of printed pages but it's history. Today I printed up some tax forms w/the replacement cart. and it's already 1/3 down. The Color cart. is about 1/2 down. Such is life I guess. Per Canon tech support, the Black XL sizes give you almost 100% more pages for about 40% more price, but decidedly less for Color XL: >Below is the ink yield information for the PIXMA MP240 cartridges: PG-210: 220 pages*1, CL-211: 244 pages *1 PG-210: 2760 pages*2, CL-211: 97 pages *2 PG-210XL: 401 pages*1, CL-211XL: 349 pages *1 PG-210XL: 5205 pages*2, CL-211XL: 144 pages *2 *1 Declared yield value in accordance with ISO/IEC 24711. Values obtained by continuous printing *2 When printing Canon standard patterns continuously with the default settings of testing paper using Windows Vista printer driver in borderless printing mode and Windows Vista Home Premium Photo Gallery. Declared yield value determined based on Canon standard method referring to ISO/IEC 24711

Buy the 210XL instead,

This review is from: Canon PG-210 Black Cartridge (2974B001) (Office Product)
The 210XL gives you 66% more ink (15ml vs 9ml). It also doesn't cost much more. The only reason the regular 210 cartridge exists is so they can give you less than a full tank of ink when you buy the printer. Don't fall for it, buy the bigger 210XL.

Canon PG-210 Black Ink Cartridge,

I feel that the cartridge went dry much too quickly, especially when you consider how much these things cost. But that is the deal, buy the printer for a reasonable price and get shafted on the cartridges. I guess this is why so many people simply buy cartridge ink refill kits and just refill the old cartridge. I think Canon would be wiser to make their own product more reasonably priced. I am sure they do market research and figure at what point they lose market share on refill kits. Having said all this, I am happy with the printer itself.
I am updating this review. I have now gone through one more of these cartridges. Someone said you are supposed to get about 220 pages out of it. I only print for school and have in my notebook all the pages I have ever printed out for the last cartridge save, at most, 5 pages. They don't come anywhere near this number. I would say it is about 120-150 pages tops. Above I said I was happy with the printer. However, I am no longer happy with a company that thinks taking advantage of its customers is acceptable and therefore I am no longer happy with the printer. I would now tell you to not buy this printer and only buy refill kits if you already have one. I just bought one from Fry's and it is working fine. Canon can take a flying leap.

If you do your homework before buying the printer you will know that you can get a larger ink cartridge with 66% more ink for about 25% more in cost. Check it out. The number is PG-210XL.

No big deal,
This review is from: Canon PG-210 Black Cartridge (2974B001) (Office Product)
I bought a new MX330 to use primarily as a scanner, and to print the occasional photo. I use a cheap Laser printer to print out everything else. You can buy a Brother or HP laser printer for the cost of a few sets of ink cartridge refills, so the price per page drops to about 2 cents. If I want to copy something, I scan it to a PDF, and then print it out on the laser.
How do you expect Canon (or anyone else) to sell an all-in-one for a hundred dollars and stay in business? King Gillette made his fortune by giving away the razor and selling the blades. Case closed.

Expect to last about 150 pages or so,

As the other reviews mentioned, these cartridges last about 140 to 150 pages, even in economy mode. That works out to about 10 cents+ a page. I got the MP240 as part of a PC bundle at BestBuy, but I am upgrading to a Laser printer asap.

Ink Gobbler for the Almighty Ink Buck,
This review is from: Canon PG-210 Black Cartridge (2974B001) (Office Product)
Just bought a Canon PIXMA MP280 with PG-210 and CL-211 cartridges in October (based only on reviews of printing ability unfortunately), and if I've printed 40 pages of B&W before that cartridge went dry I'd be surprised. And the color ink cartridge is nearly 2/3 empty after not that many color pages. Of all of the ink jet printers I've bought and used over the last 25 years, I would place this one for actual end user (me) ink usage and printed page cost as the worst. And for the cost of two new cartridges, I could almost again buy the PIXMA MP280 printer with two cartridges at Walmart (I won't). No, I'll be retiring this printer (my first and last Canon printer) after only one use cycle and look elsewhere, and what sense does that make environmentally? This is really unfortunate because it is a neat little printer that does a great printing job that I was going to use for small jobs alongside my HP laser printer and my wide format Epson 1400. In my opinion what idiocy it is when companies develop great pieces of equipment and shoot themselves in the foot for the almighty ink buck (Canon isn't the only one guilty of this, the small Epson I replaced with it ate ink as well)! And don't get me wrong about Canon quality as I have five of their cameras and associated lenses, etc. - they are outstanding. But on this ink jet business consumers simply need to start saying no until things change. I would not recommend the cartridge or the printer.

I purchased this product thinking that it would be a better alternative to the high priced retail stores but i guess you get what you pay for. There was not much ink in this cartridge at all. My printer never read that i had a new ink cartridge in it. It kept stating that my ink was low and I would close out of the message box and keep printing when i needed to.......This ink cartridge did not last half as long as an original cartridge would last. I do not print much at all and this only lasted about 2-3 weeks of very minimal printing. I have already had to purchase a new cartridge. I was not pleased with this item.

This black canon ink cartridge arrived within a few days. I have found that genuine canon ink cartridges work better than knockoffs. They print a nice clear, not fuzzy, image. Amazon also has the best price.

The ink always works when I purchase it from Amazon. Cheap place to purchase. Got it for less than half the price.
