I've had this printer for about 9 months. I've been very pleased with its performance and have found it to be a much better printer than the similarly priced Epson it replaced, which somehow "knew" just when to die... immediately after the warranty expired. Hopefully this one will last longer.

My purchase from Amazon yielded a printer that had an issue. Canon promptly replaced with a brand new unit. The printer is plenty fast. Does a great job with text, nice and crisp, which is my primary concern whenever I purchase a printer. Printing on standard paper my photos look great. Looking forward to trying them on photo paper and I imagine the results will be even better. Copying, works great and copies look near identical to originals. Scanning function works great too with scans that can be used in print and elsewhere. At $150 this printer is the way to go. Of course you could spend twice as much and get something quicker but as too quality of output I am not sure the average user would see much of a difference without magnification. I have no qualms about recommending this product. One last note... it is great to have the separate ink carts. The black is twice as large as the 3 colored carts.
Thanks Canon

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Printer, Copier, and Scanner, January 3, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Canon PIXMA MP510 All-in-One Photo Printer (1450B002) (Office Product)
The way I judge the Canon PIXMA MP510 is in the following manner: Cost of the ink refills, cost of the unit, speed to print in B&W and then color, scan quality versus speed and print quality, ease of setup, operation, and continued use, versus life of the All-in-One Photo Printer. I have had the Canon PIXMA MP510 All-in-One Photo Printer for three months and can say it is one of the best All-in-One Photo Printers I have ever used. This is the third canon printer and fourth multi-purpose device I have owned. I expect to get at least three years out of the unit. One reviewer mentioned that the unit was loud when started and this is correct. I however get around this by allowing the unit to stay on twenty four hours a day. The unit enters a hibernation phase and all that is on is, the two front panel lights allowing for quick use when needed. It was easy to set up, put the ink in, and operate. I can copy with two key strokes and can scan-email or scan-store any document. The scanner is not the fastest in the world but for the home office and the money it does the job. The scans are sharp and adequate to my needs. The software that came with the unit is also simple to set up and use. When I was looking at the various manufactures and devices on the market canon stood out as having economical and good devices. The Canon PIXMA MP510 All-in-One Photo Printer has met or exceeded all my expectations and needs.

5.0 out of 5 stars High quality in all functions, November 8, 2006
This review is from: Canon PIXMA MP510 All-in-One Photo Printer (1450B002) (Office Product)
Just got the 510 and had no problems setting it up. Instructions are clear and the set-up program ran with no issues. Works right out of the box. Note that the printer must turned on and set-up before the computer is turned on.

Print quality is superior for an ink jet. Copy and scan functions are remarkably good. Photo quality is also very good - crisp, clear colors.

Light weight, good looking and low cost. Not a bad deal.

I've had this printer for about 9 months. I've been very pleased with its performance and have found it to be a much better printer than the similarly priced Epson it replaced, which somehow "knew" just when to die... immediately after the warranty expired. Hopefully this one will last longer.

The main issue I have with this Canon printer is its unquenchable thirst for ink. I estimate that I print an average of less than 10 pages a day and I have to replace the color cartridges about every 3 months. If you buy Canon cartridges this easily becomes a VERY expensive printer to own... but I think this is the entire pinter industry's 'dirty little secret.' I recently started using generic cartridges that cost a fraction of what Canon cartridges cost and so far they seem fine. Part of what you are paying for is the tiny computer chip on each cartridge, which supposedly can be taken off and attached to some generic cartridges that are sold chip-less and are therefore even cheaper than generics that come with the chip. In spite of this fancy chip on each cartridge, the printer can't seem to actually tell you how much ink is left... instead it starts annoying you with 'buy ink!' messages every time you print when there is still (I'm guessing) about 15% of the ink left.

Also, as the 'MP510' model number suggests, this seems to be some sort of variation on the 'MP500' and ink cartridges that fit the 510 are harder to find than those for Canon models ending in '00.' CAUTION: There is a widely available money-saving Canon multipack containing 3 color cartridges that fit this 510 model, but the black cartridge in the pack does NOT fit. This means you are stuck buying each cartridge separately. Gee thanks, Canon.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Printer, November 12, 2006
This review is from: Canon PIXMA MP510 All-in-One Photo Printer (1450B002) (Office Product)
I bought this printer yesterday and this review, therefore, has to be initial impressions. That said- the 510 puts out near laser quality B&W prints at an impressive speed.
I had read a review somewhere that the color scans were not up to Canon's standards by a small margin which is high. If it is so-I could not see a difference between the original and the scanned product. And my eyes are sharp.
It produces extremely high quality color prints which is not the reason I bought it.

This unit is a replacement for the Canon Pixma 1700 Printer which cost me a whole 50 bucks and was highly recommended, but got fried in a some of my areas recent power surges.
In addition, I decided , as a replacement, that I would spend a little more for an all in one. The field is littered with competition right below the Pixma MP510's $150 price point. At this price point, however, you get better speed, more options such as double sided printing and 2 different paper feeds.
So the final verdict for me is that this printer has just about every feature one might want and delivers excellent quality. With me bang for the buck with quality. For home use-go no further.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great combo, January 18, 2007
This review is from: Canon PIXMA MP510 All-in-One Photo Printer (1450B002) (Office Product)
I upgraded from an IP3000 Canon printer. The resulting pictures from this printer were as good if not better than the IP3000. The copies and scans are great. I also replaced and HP scanner that took forever to warm up and then was very slow at scanning. The MP510 is very fast at scanning and copying. I couldn't be happier.

Overall, I'm happy with the product. It scans fine, prints good photos, like the individual ink tanks, and is fast once it warms up. Only knocks are that it takes lots of space and is slow to warm up. Had a HP before and I prefer this Canon so far.

Overall I am very happy with this printer. The flip-up screen is great and the controls are very easy to understand. The print quality is wonderful but it does take a little longer to "warm up" than other Canon machines I've had. I haven't had the opportunity to use the memory card slot but love the option. Individual ink cartridges are great, although could do without the chip on the cartridge. I also like that when the machine is powered off, the machine automatically puts a protective cap on the print head to prevent the ink from drying. I would highly recommend this printer for just about anyone.

This printer is perfect when you need a good printer and a copier for home. The flatbed scanner if very handy. I can make copies of small odd-shaped items that won't fit is some multi-function printers. It is a little slow starting up, but after that is fine.

5.0 out of 5 stars Canon MP510, January 31, 2007
This review is from: Canon PIXMA MP510 All-in-One Photo Printer (1450B002) (Office Product)
I have had this product for about 1 month, found it a little difficult to set up, but it sure was worth it. Anyone purchasing this product will be very pleased. Quality of printing and printing of color pictures is excellent. I highly recommend this product. Amazon is the best place to purchase also.
