Product Description

From the Manufacturer

As a photographer, you take care to capture the best images possible and you want those images to look as good as you remember when you print them. The PIXMA PRO-10 Wireless1 Professional Inkjet Printer makes that possible with features that ensure incredible output. A new 10-color LUCIA pigment ink system features three black inks for amazing monochrome prints, and a Chroma Optimizer to ensure the inks lay smooth on the paper which reduces metamerism and bronzing. Since the LUCIA inks are pigment based, your prints will have incredible longevity and phenomenal photo vividness.

The PIXMA PRO-10 shares technology with the rest of the PIXMA PRO line utilizing the Optimum Image Generating System to ensure what you envision is exactly what you get. The OIG System analyzes each area of the print and chooses the best ink mixture so you see the colors you expect to see in your print.

The new Print Studio Pro2 plug-in software makes it even easier to get amazing results from your favorite photo applications. Add to that connectivity options like Wi-Fi, Ethernet and USB and you have a professional machine that easily fits into your workflow that you can place anywhere around the studio.

For media support, the PIXMA PRO-10 features two paper trays. A rear tray for a variety of fine art and glossy photo papers, and a manual slot for thicker media to meet your printing needs.

Print your Vision up to 13" x 19":
Print professional quality photos on various media up to 13" x 19".

Professional Quality, Built-in:
Canon Full-photolithography Inkjet Nozzle Engineering (FINE) features a patented print head that enables printing with microscopic droplets and high resolution up to 4800 x 2400 dpi.3

True Monochrome Prints:
The 3 monochrome inks which are part of the 10-ink LUCIA system consist of Photo Black, Matte Black, and Gray. These inks deliver enhanced, deep black density to raise your level of professional print quality when creating the dramatic expression of grayscale photography. The premium LUCIA monochrome inks work together with the Chroma Optimizer to reduce the effect of bronzing. As a result, your printed photos will have expanded dynamic range, especially in the darker or shadow areas of the image.

Uniform Ink Height:
The Chroma Optimizer brings uniform ink height over the printed image and regulates surface reflection. This maintains the natural color and integrity of your printed photos.

Optimum Analysis and Mixture of Color:
The Optimum Image Generating (OIG) System utilizes two major technologies that were first introduced in the PIXMA PRO-1. The first is a sophisticated mixing balance of inks determined from numerous ink combinations and advanced analysis. During this analysis, the OIG System carefully calculates the best results for each print mode and paper type used while looking at various image factors including color reproduction, tonal gradations, black density, low graininess, glossiness, anti-bronzing and anti-metamerism. These critical ink balancing principles are derived from Canon's expertise in imaging technology, as well as the familiar colors of life that people see and remember on a daily basis. The second is the balancing of color reproduction, tonal gradations, and uniform glossiness. The genius and power of the OIG System is truly showcased when your image is printed, exhibited, and is seen exactly as you envisioned it.

Pro Printing:
The powerful Print Studio Pro plug-in software2 provides professional photographers effective printing solutions and can directly hand-over image data. Print Studio Pro is compatible with Digital Photo Professional (ver 2.1 or later), Adobe Photoshop CS, Adobe Photoshop Elements, and Adobe Photoshop Lightroom.

Versatile Paper Handling:
Two-way paper feeding provides a rear tray for most supported media types and a dedicated manual feed in the back of the printer for easy loading of thicker papers.

Built-in CD and DVD Printing:
Conveniently print onto your printable CD, DVD or Blu-ray Discs and jackets.

Built-in Wi-Fi:
The built-in Wi-Fi1 gives you the freedom to place the printer where it’s convenient and allows multiple users to seamlessly print from several computers.

AirPrint:
Enables you to print photos, email, Web pages and documents from your Apple device directly to your printer - without installing a driver.4

Color prints: Both printers produce color prints that are absolutely beautiful.
Brian Baker
I printed out several photos on other types of Canon paper as well, such as Photo Pro Luster and Pro Platinum... the results are breathtaking.
Steve
While printing seems a little slow, the process is relatively quiet and results are amazing.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
I have these two pro-photo printers from Canon and I'm going to take advantage of this opportunity to not only review them as to their capabilities, but to compare them to each other as to advantages and disadvantages. One (the Pro-10) uses a pigment-based ink system; the other (the Pro-100) uses a dye-based ink system. There are pros and cons to each of those types of inks, and the performance you can expect from the respective printers.

For background, I originally entered the realm of pro photo printers about a decade or so ago with the Canon Pro-9000, which used dye-based inks. This was in the era before Canon developed their ChromaLife dye inks, and those early inks weren't rated highly for longevity, an issue of great import to most who print pro-level (or prosumer) photos, and an issue of which I wasn't yet informed because I was a newbie to digital photography. It was an excellent printer as to print quality, but when Canon came out with the first line of ChromaLife inks, I educated myself on the subject, and since the Pro-9000 wasn't able to accept the new inks, I decided to switch to an HP 8750, which used Vivera inks which are highly rated for longevity.

The HP 8750 has served me very well for the intervening years, but they stopped supporting driver and software upgrades with Windows XP, so when I transitioned to Win 7 several functions of that printer were no longer available. A very strange - and alienating - decision on the part of HP, which prompted me to finally switch to the new Canon printers.

As far as set-up, these two Canon printers are nearly identical. The set-up is easy and intuitive, but time-consuming as these are complex pieces of equipment with sophisticated software.

This photo printer is by far the best I've ever owned. Canon has always been known for high quality products and this is no different. I was deliberating between the PRO-1 and the PRO-10. Although I do some black and white photography, I did not feel it was enough to warrant the decision to choose a PRO-1. I own a Canon PIXMA MP990. If someone says there is no difference, print out a black and white photo on another brand of photo printer, then print the SAME photo on any Canon PIXMA printer that utilizes a gray ink tank. It will not take long to see the difference. IF YOU ARE NOT A PATIENT person, you may not want this printer. Although the quality is second to none, it took me about 6 and a half minutes to print a high-res 13 by 19 color photo. I can EASILY live with that, considering the appearance of the print. As far as ink usage, I set up the printer, printed 11 at 13 by 19 size color prints, 8 Avery half fold cards, 6 of 8.5 by 11 photos, and several 4 by 6 prints and my 10 ink tanks are still showing all full. I imagine that will soon change, but I'm entirely satisfied. I would highly recommend this printer.

The best way to review this printer is to compare it to peers in its class I have also owned and have conducted A/B comparison tests with to see where each excels. I have included the PRO-10 as the first in the comparison.

CANON PRO-10 - MSRP $699
PIGMENT based printer
+Excellent quality on Fine Art & Matte paper
+Very good color, but not as much pop/dynamic range as dye
+Excellent black & white
+Very good quality on Gloss, Semi-Gloss, and Luster paper
-Non-matte paper requires an extra overcoat of gloss, which is one of the replaceable ink tanks. If you print on gloss/semi-gloss/luster primarily, you will be changing the gloss optimizer cartridge more than any other one.
+Over 100 year lifespan on all papers, with the exception that pigment is more likely to chip, scratch, or flake if not protected by glass since it sits on top of the paper.
+Water resistant
+Fantastic build quality, fit and finish. Built like a tank.
+Fantastic quality paper feed path, will take nearly any paper easily
-Cannot print roll paper
-Since it is pigment, less variation in finishes as ink sits on top of the paper.
-Must be turned on every other week to prevent clogging. Turning printer on will be enough to prevent clogging with this printer.

CANON PRO-100 - MSRP $499
DYE based printer
+Excellent quality on Canon Platinum Pro Gloss, Semi-Gloss, and Luster paper
+With above paper, photo will last 50 years framed or 300 years in photo album w/o fading
+Very good quality on Matte and Fine Art paper, but...
-No guarantee on fade resistance with fine art & matte paper since it is uncoated & porous
+Excellent pop and dynamic range than pigment printers - great for posters!

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
Five months ago, I gave up on Epson, which I had been using exclusively for printing for nearly 10 years, in favor of my first Canon printer... the PIXMA Pro-100. Although I had a few Epson printers that were well over double the price of the Pro-100, out of the box the Pro-100 absolutely amazed me. Far better quality prints and built to impress. After printing out hundreds of 4x6 pictures and dozens of 13x19 posters, I have no doubt that the PIXMA Pro-100 was the best printer I've ever owned.

I decided to move my beloved Pro-100 to a second house I own, where I needed a larger format printer for CAD printouts. I replaced it in my home office with a Canon PIXMA Pro-10, which is a step up from the Pro-100. The Pro-10 is also the second best photo inkjet printer in Canon's new lineup, behind the PIXMA Pro-1.

Like all my other Canon printers (I own four now), setup is absolute simplicity. Following the included step-by-step installation guide, you can't possibly go wrong, even without any previous knowledge of setting up printers. The Pro-10 was up and printing within a few minutes (through USB). The toolbox of utilities allow complete control over the printer, including auto power-off options, paper handling, color adjustment, as well as a variety of self-cleaning options. It prints fantastically right out of the box, without any adjustments, so no fiddling is necessary... but it's there if you want to make adjustments.

Side by side, the Pro-10 and Pro-100 are identical... the only difference visually is the extra zero on the Pro-100's nameplate. The spec sheets also read off nearly identically. The $200 difference in price (according to Canon's website) lies entirely in their ink systems.
