Extremely pleased with MP610,

I have used my MP610 for only one month, but am extremely pleased. I didn't time it, but the "Fast" mode is very fast and better than draft quality for documents. Color does suffer in "Fast" mode. I had banding in a solid black field and colors weren't as true to original. But in 'standard' mode I detected no obvious faults. The 'High' mode with photo paper has outstanding color and detail to my layman eyes. I've printed heavy card stock (45#) with no problem. I dearly love the Duplex feature. I had paper feed problems with my previous HP printer, but this internal Duplex mechanism is much more than I expected at this price. The description and pictures of the product did not addequately show the paper feed options. There is a straight through feed from a raised paper holder in the rear requiring a height clearence of more than 7 inches over the height of the printer. The feed tray also leans slightly back requiring about 4 more inches clearance behind the machine. Also to my surprise there is a paper feed cassette in the bottom of the printer. It pulls out forward to load and then is reinserted. It can hold multiple sized paper, and presents a 'U' shaped feed path. I've yet to use it.
The 610 functions well as a color copy machine. I've used the scanner once to scan a company's gold emblem to use on 'home made' business cards and found the quality more than adequate in color and detail. I have NO complaints, yet.

Great Printer at a Great Price,

This was purchased as a replacement for a worn out all-in-one printer from a different manufacturer. It is used primarily as a text and graphics printer and photocopier. The quality of printed materials, in both black and in color, is excellent. Copy quality is also excellent. The Canon uses five ink cartridges -- CYMK for color work, a separate black for black-only work. I've been in the computer industry for fifty years and have owned and used many different printers. I highly recommend this printer.

This printer is my fourth Canon, but my first all-in-one. Canon builds good printers that work, and this one fits that description, but it is not a step forward over the i860 it replaced. In fact, the print quality of the i860 is quite a bit better.
I do think that complaints about its size are a bit unfair. It is larger in size than some other printers that do the same things, but it fits fine on my printer stand. Set-up was easy, and I had it up and running within 30 minutes after getting it unpacked, a daunting task in itself. Overall, I'd say text printing is very good, copys are good, but scans are only fair, and photos are somewhere in between. The card reader works just like a card reader. If you can buy this printer for around $150, I think you'll be happy with it, but you might want to find somewhere that you can actually see it in action before buying it. It does all the things it's advertised to do, it's just that there really isn't a wow factor to any of them. Perhaps that's fine for everyday home office use, but if your more of a photo or graphics hobbiest, you probably should look at other models, including those in Canon's own lineup.

I purchased a Canon MP610 back in January 08. Within the first week a 'U150' error pops up - the printer no longer recognizes one of the ink cartridges that shipped with the printer. I contact Canon, they promptly ship me a replacement cartridge. I replace the defective one and all is good. I figure it was a fluke, which can happen with any product.
Come April the main black ink cartridge is empty and needs replacing. I purchase a new one, which works well UNTIL today - I get a 'U150' error, stating that the ink cartridge cannot be recognized by the printer. Though it worked fine yesterday, today this relatively new cartridge, made by Canon, isn't recognized by the Canon printer. If (should I say 'when'?) you get a U150 error, you now have a large paperweight on your desk - it won't scan, copy, print, NOTHING until you replace what is most likely a perfectly good, EXPENSIVE ink cartridge. This printer has seen LIGHT usage, as my wife and I, our needs are few. To have a factory-made ink cartridge that cannot be recognized by the printer is UNACCEPTABLE. Do a google search on Canon and U150 and you'll see this problem is more than just a fluke of MY printer. Except for this SIGNIFICANT problem I've loved this printer. However, this kind of problem is a deal breaker for me - if I can't depend on the printer to at least PRINT, what did I buy it for? Until Canon fixes this problem with their ink cartridges, I would recommend you consider other manufacturers.

Printer Prints Perfect Pics...,

I've bought many items from Amazon and have never rated them--whether good or bad. But, I'm making an exception for this printer.
This printer was an X-mas gift from me to me and I have absolutely no complaints about this printer and all--and I'm a picky individual mind you. It's easy to install, document quality is excellent and the pictures are amazing. I recently got married and with the exception of about 2 'special' prints that I had done at the local Kodak store--I have printed all of my wedding pictures on this printer. From 8 x 10's to wallets--you name it, I've printed them & every single picture looks gorgeous. I highly recommend it...

I've owned just about every brand of printer made. I had never owned a Canon however and when my last printer died a slow painful death (a Dell), I faithfully read all the reviews (thank god for people that actually write these so the rest of us know what to buy) and ended up with this printer. It is absolutely the most fantastic printer ever. It's pretty quiet, is sooooo user friendly, quality is just fantastic and operation in all aspects is a dream. I just wish I'd found thisi one sooner. I love it.

A good printer for the price. Easy start up instructions. Fast and quiet printing. I like the individual inks--makes it economical. Printer is bulky and odd shaped. The back tray would make it impossible to push it against a wall. Right now, mine is on a rolling cart. That seems to work for me. It seems I went through the black ink rather quickly, but I do print a lot and I haven't kept track of how many sheets I've printed. It took a while to figure out how to do special printing (something other than straight text) but I finally got the hang of it. Two minor kinks: it doesn't shut off when I shut down my computer (my last printer did) and every minute or so the rollers start turning on their own (it gets kind of annoying).

This is a very fast printer regardless of what type of printing you are doing. Start up time is also very fast, unlike some other printers I have had in the past. I have printed several hundred pictures and only have a couple of issues with the printer. A pop up screen will tell you that the ink is getting low and to replace the ink tank. At first, I replaced the ink tank right away but then, on subsequent tanks, decided to keep on printing to see what happens. You can print a couple dozen more 4x6 photos before you really have to change the ink. They set the replace ink pop up way too soon.
when you go to buy replacement tanks, you'll notice why they want you to buy ink tanks. Very expensive, even at Costco. The tanks don't last as long as other Canon printers I've had and you really can't do refills because of a micro chip on the tank. Still, I like the speed and the quality and just have to pay the price for the ink.

After having gone through several HP all-in-one inkjets over the last few years, and much frustration. I tried the latest Canon. I paid a little more, and I was not comfortable to pay more for another HP. What an awesome machine the MP610 is. Excellent print quality, smooth printing mechanism, top-notch fit and finish, underneath drawer paper tray is a great touch, duplex printing executes without skipped pages or mishandling paper. I think the way they designed the underneath paper tray has a lot to do with how consistently the pages come out one at a time and precisely aligned. This is a well thought out inkjet design, and should be worth your consideration. I'm much happier!

Canon is a great company to deal with and their products are outstanding. Bought the MP 610 from Amazon but it was not copying or scanning correctly. Called Canon and after trying a few things over the phone they concluded that it was a faulty scanner and sent me a warranty replacement MP 610 with a prepaid UPS to return faulty unit if I was satisfied problem was corrected. New unit works great and the quality of the color prints is outstanding, copy mode make great and fast copies and the scanning is adequate for my use. If you really want great scans I think you need to spend more money.
