Every thing about this printer is perfect for my use except the printer's unbelieveable thirst for ink. I don't print photos but it's almost as if I can hear the ink being sucked away. At roughly $40 a refill, it may become too expensive.
I've had the printer just over a month and had to refill. December was a high use time because I was printing 2009 calendars, with lots of color, and with preview copies, probably ran more than 100 pages. Very fine quality printing but whoooosh! ink's gone.

It took me about 30 minutes to set this up, which I thought a bit excessive. But it is wonderful to have this 3-in-one available at home, and it seems to be a great machine. The 4 x 6 pictures it prints rivals the ones I make at the drugstore kiosk! I haven't scanned anything yet, but the copies I've made are good. Just be sure to let them dry before touching or they smudge. I guess all ink jets do that though.
For $68 I think this is a great deal. And it arrived lightning-fast. EDIT 12/31/09: It does work great, BUT, THE INK CARTRIDGES COST $25 A POP! RIDICULOUS! I HAVE SPENT MORE IN INK THIS YEAR THAN THIS PRINTER COST!!!!! Live and learn.

I was looking for a new multifunction printer to replace my 4 yr. old HP that worked fine as a printer with new iMac, but scanning feature was not recognized by computer. I looked into upgrading the driver, but a new driver for the model printer I had was not available. I didn't need the fax function on printer, so I checked all reviews for multifunction units without fax feature and the Canon Pixma MP 190 consistently had pretty good reviews for a unit in the price range. Many users commented on excellent photo quality; however, that is not a feature I make use of. I order my photos from an on line service. The most negative comment from the reviews that I read and am experiencing is the slow printing and noise from the machine as it gears up to print and also while printing; however, since I use it only for non-business printing I don't find it much of a problem. When I set up the machine, which was rather easy, there was something in the on line manual about reducing the noise; however, I was unable to make the adjustments. I had the machine set up and ready to go in less than 1/2 hr. A drawback is that my previous printer was able to accept legal sized paper while the Pixma MP 190 appears to only take 8.5 x 11 paper, 8.5 x 11 photo paper and 4 x 6 photo paper. I haven't tried putting legal sized paper in the paper tray to see if it would be accepted.
So far, I am happy with the printing quality, but as mentioned, it is used for home use and doesn't get overworked. Overall, am pleased with the purchase.

Canon Pixma MP 109 All in WONDER !!!,

I am a professional photographer and I print all my work in house haven't used a lab in years. For my clients photos I use Epson Professional Printers but these printers are way over qualified for basic office needs.
So when my Epson 800 office printer and my HP 110 Color Copier quit recently at about the same time I started doing research on all in one options. That research led me to the Canon Pixma 109. I have had this nice little machine for about a month and it works great. It was up and running within 30 minutes of opening the box. Nice controls in a separate window on the desktop make it easy to use. Automatically scans and creates multi-page PDF's. That alone is worth the price of admission. Document and photo scans are crisp and accurate. Nice photo enhancement controls built in but I don't use this machine for professional photo work. As a printer its relatively quiet and fast enough for small office use. I highly recommend this product.

The Canon Pixma MP 190 printer is piece of garbage and a scam. You've been warned.,

If you're reading this review then you've no doubt read others pointing out this product's ink consumption. You know the scam- a printer is offered at an amazingly low price in order to sell you frequent replacement ink cartridges. Canon's Pixma MP 190 adds many refinements to this scam. First, the color ink consumption is truly, ridiculously out of hand. I don't print photos or any other materials requiring large amounts of color ink. I print the occasional google map and not much else. I'm finding that I have to replace the cartridge once a month even though I MAYBE print 15 or so low color pages a month. This is unacceptable.
If this were the extent of it then I wouldn't be writing this review. No, Canon takes the whole "buy lots of our ink" ploy one step further. I ran out of ink this week and I went to scan a document today only to find that the scanning software will not work due to "printer maintenance". I did some research and, yes, the scanner functionality of this all-in-one printer does not work unless you fork over for the overpriced ink that goes out after 15-20 pages. I used to respect Canon. But now its apparent that they're not even trying to disguise their underhanded practices. I guess that now they're content to bleed customers for ink refills and turn them off to their products in the future. Way to go after the short con, Canon! THE CANON PIXMA MP 190 IS NO BARGAIN- EXPECT TO PAY $20 PER MONTH ON INK REFILLS AND LOSE THE USE OF SCANNER FUNCTIONALITY IF YOU RUN OUT OF INK.

Great product.. Great price..,

I am a big fan of Canon both printer and scanner. Recently I received an all-in-one printer with brandname starts with L, I was so frustrated because when scanned a file in PDF format, one single page is 1.6 Mb minimum. So I bought this one and now file sizes are 75% smaller.
No problem at all... easy to use even for a rookie like me. Strongly recommend any Canon products.. had dealt with customer services sometime in the past, they're terrific. Two thumbs up!!

Hungry ink eater with less useful features.,
This review is from: Canon Pixma MP190 All-In-One Photo Printer (2910B002) (Office Product)
Last time I bought a canon printer was the BJC-3000. (4 separate ink cartridges). That was a long time ago, so I expected the same GOOD old features plus whatever new useful features.
What a disappointment. This is a Printer/Scanner. It is not a photocopier, or anything else. You get a canon scanner and a canon printer. THAT'S IT. And that would be fair enough, BUT: Things as BASIC as the auto power off function are nowhere to be found. If anybody knows how to program this printer to auto power off after x minutes, please let me know, the old bjc3000 was able to do this. Also, the auto power on feature is gone! I used to be able to send a print job to the printer, through a computer connected to the home network and the printer would turn on, print and then turn off on its own thanks to the auto power off. Why are these handy features gone?! The VERY old bjc3000 was already capable of photo printing so this printer does not do anything new. It does the same, but it seems it does it wasting more ink! As many people pointed out: It is an ink eater, that is a disaster magnified by the fact that this printer won't print if not loaded with both the black and the color cartridges. We are going backwards. Even if you don't print in color, the start up process of the printer will waste color ink. Previously you could just load the black cartridge and leave the color one empty, and load it only when you use it. But no, canon NEEDS you to waste your color ink. What a technological advance! If I am wrong, PLEASE correct me. I want to be wrong, what a disappointment....

I bought this printer for $40 at WalMart & am very happy with it so far. I had purchased a Hewlett Packard F4200 at Sams a few months ago for the same price but returned it for several reasons. Comparing the two low-end printers the Canon MP190 is superior across the board. The print quality is much better on the Canon, the software is much quicker and less bloated, and the speeds (especially scanning) are much better. Having owned various brands of printers over the years, I am consistently impressed by Canon's products and pleased with their software. This is a budget printer so don't expect many bells & whistles, but for light work making quality prints, scans, and copies this unit is definitely recommended.
