great printer and scanner,

After switching to Vista, we couldn't get working drivers for our old printer and scanner. We first tried an HP all-in-one, but it had multiple paper jams from the get-go. So we tried the Canon. We've had this printer for about a month, and it's fantastic in all regards. SOFTWARE is simple to use, and doesn't take over your computer the way that HP software does. SCANNER is fast and easy. PRINTER puts out very good copies, and the "Light" setting is useful for basic printing while not using too much ink. The design is small and boxy (it reminds me of a 1950's refrigerator, but small), and doesn't take up much space. You can use it as a copier without the computer being on, which is quite handy.

The one I received from a 3 party didn't work right - the paper wouldn't feed. Luckily, I kept the warranty information and luckily Canon said that it WAS new and still under warranty. They sent me a re-conditioned printer which works great and is still under the same warranty as my new one. Plus I got more free ink! So, I can't complain about Canon and their warranty claiming process - no hassle at all!
Also, you can control the sound of the printer by going into the printer properties and telling it to remain quiet all the time (or you can tell it print quietly at certain times). I am not really clear why someone would LOVE to have a noisy printer (it actually startled me the first time I heard it), but when I told it to "be quiet", the noise wasn't too bad.

this is a really nice little printer. It's cute, it's reasonably quiet, paper feeds smoothly, documents print clean & crisp. I've never been so pleased with an inexpensive printer.
I can't comment on scanning or photo-quality printing as I haven't used those features but just as a general printer this is really nice. I'm very happy!

Decent printer, total ink hog,
This review is from: Canon Pixma MP240 USB 2.0 All-in-One Print/Copy/Scan/Photo (Electronics)
I've had this printer for coming up on two years, and it is a decent printer that was worth what I paid from Best Buy with my laptop, but not worth the current $150 price tag on here. I don't recall it being very difficult to set up with the software, and mechanically it is not complicated. It is easy to use from either your computer or the printer itself, where it has a dedicated "scan" button and "black" and "color" buttons for copying. It did take me a couple minutes when I first started using it to realize that "duplex" printing meant double-sided. The print quality is decent. For black and white and basic color it's fine; if you want to print photos, which I have done plenty of for flash cards, the quality is, again, decent. It doesn't look wonderful, but it's adequate. If you're looking to print photos you can proudly display, look elsewhere. The print speed, once it gets going, is pretty good. However, you have to wait generally around 30-45 seconds before it will actually print anything, because it always decides that it wants to do whatever it's doing making a bunch of noise for a while after you click the "print" button before it'll actually start printing. If you're looking for a quiet printer, definitely look elsewhere. It's loud both in this pre-print ritual and when it is printing. Finally, the ink consumption is awful. Really, this thing drains ink like there's no tomorrow, so be prepared to be purchasing more cartridges often if you print a lot. The good thing is that it doesn't have dedicated color cartridges like some printers; it just has a single black and a single color cartridge.
Bottom line: if the price is still $150 here, don't buy it. It is not worth it. If you see it somewhere else cheap (seems to me like mine was $30 or so with my laptop at Best Buy) and don't mind the issues stated above, go ahead. For basic printing purposes it is really a pretty decent printer.

Just right,

I'm in college and needed a printer really bad. This one does the job and still can be used for recreational use. It's fairly small, so it doesn't overcrowd the little space that I have in my dorm. It prints in really high quality, but ink is so expensive that I set the settings to low and it prints perfect. The one thing I have not done, but am excited to do, is print pictures. Almost all of my pictures are digital and it will be nice to actually print it. With the printing quality, it will work great.
I also think this is a great printerfor those of us who are not so tech savvy. I am not good at electronics at all, but I figured this out quickly. all-in-all,I'm VERY happy.

BIG PROBLEMS WASTE OF MONEY,

I needed an all in one printer and a friend got this one for me mainly because the price was very low. In the months I have had it I know why the price was low. It has never worked will not print on line material of from my word processing programs.
When I tried to advance the paper it ran a number of sheets through at an angle and jammed the paper feed. It goes in the Recycle Bin tomorrow. I just bought a new All In One Printer at Walmart for less money (and I can return it if it does not work.)

Things were going fine: the 6-month old Canon all-in-one was working very well while not being used heavily. Sure it drank ink but what printer doesn't?
Then suddenly last week it decides to stop working and I get the dreaded "E 3" error -- "paper jam." But there was NEVER any paper jam; the dang thing just stopped working. Talked to tech support but that didn't clear this "jam" either so I'm returning the thing. This is very disappointing and disconcerting as an Epson all-in-one I bought a couple of years earlier also suddenly died, making me buy this Canon. But heck at least the Epson lasted a couple of years. I hope I got a lemon because I bought another Canon (same model) to replace this dud.

We have to do voodoo dances to get this thing to work. VERY ANNOYING. When it does work it's great, but that's about 25% of the time.
HATE HATE HATE!!!!!!

Faulty Scanner,
This review is from: Canon Pixma MP240 USB 2.0 All-in-One Print/Copy/Scan/Photo (Electronics)
I've had this product for a year. It came with my Apple MacBook Pro laptop. I have only used it as a scanner and enjoyed doing so for the first year. I did a lot of scanning with it and then it suddenly can't connect with either of the laptops I've previously used it with. I get an error message, E, 3, 1, which the manual indicates is a connection issue. I've restarted the computer, tried a different USB cable, reinstalled drivers, unplugged and replugged the scanner/printer, but I can't get the problem fixed. Based on reviews and problems I'm starting to read about on the internet, I imagine these printers were given away free with MacBook Pros at the store where I shopped because they don't last that long.

Faulty product,

This review is from: Canon Pixma MP240 USB 2.0 All-in-One Print/Copy/Scan/Photo (Electronics)
I purchased this product several months ago because it seemed compact and sturdy in construction and the price was very reasonable. Ever since the first day of use, an error message "host process Rundll32 has closed" comes up every time upon intitiating printing, slowing and delaying the printing process although it still does print, that is until recently: Now I have the same problem as another reviewer in that I began getting paper jam messages and out of paper messages that were not valid. The paper feed has suddenly and simply stopped working. Definitely would not reccomend this printer.
