5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding printer
I bought this to replace an Epson Stylus C86, which ceased to deliver adequate color images after a year's use (using only Epson cartridges) and did not provide timely or adequate customer service when requested. This Canon (it's my first Canon product ever) is outstanding -- outstanding value & outstanding image quality.

2.0 out of 5 stars Often Stops Printing due to Paper Jam Error Message
Excellent value and very satisfactory output. However, stops printing after every few pages due to "paper jam in output slot" However, there is no paper jam. Resumes easily but requires user attention to finish every job. I've seen other reviews indicating the same.

This is my second Canon Pixma printer. Love how reliable they are and pretty fast for an inexpensive printer. Best part is you can buy generic ink replacement wayyyyyyyy cheaper.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it, February 18, 2008

This is a very good everyday printer for fast and good quality prints. I like the fact that it has separate cartridges for each ink. However the price for the replacement ink is high.

I researched document/photo printers before deciding on this model. Amazed at the reported quality for the low price, I was even more surprised when I began to use the printer. Business documents turned out equal in quality to my old HP laser. Color documents were excellent also. I have no idea how equipment of this quality can be produced for such a low price. I sincerely hope that my purchase is not supporting sweatshops in Asia.

This is my second Canon inkjet printer and I love it just as much as the previous one I owned. The printing of text is clean and crisp as are the photos it makes. I'm a very satisfied buyer.

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent fast printer--but some difficulties setting up with mac, January 7, 2008
This review is from: Canon Pixma iP3500 Photo Printer (2170B002) (Office Product)
An excellent, fast and very cheap printer. Works well even with a wireless router, but I had some difficulty getting the printer to work (Use primarily a MacBrook Pro). I found that when first trying to print, it is important not to print from iphoto, as the printer will not set up properly. First print a normal word document, or email with this printer (it can be selected as a new printer "bonjour") and then try printing photos. Received truly first rate support, however, from Canon.

This is a great printer. I have purchased 4 Canon printers and they are all good. This one does an excellent job of printing photos, and the ink lasts forever.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect basic printer, February 15, 2009

Okay, I haven't fully read all the reviews, but I skimmed the titles and I wanted to address a few things.

First, this printer is NOT slow. Judge the speed of the printer by the second page it kicks out, not the first. This printer is fast and snappy whether you're printing color or text. The FIRST time you use it, it has to load the system with ink and prep the print heads. This takes a while. After that, each time it's down or an extended period, it automatically preps the head again, which takes a while. This is not print speed, it's prep time. And it insures good prints. If you print regularly, it'll be snappy. If you print once a month, get an HP or something with the print head built into the ink cartridge.

I made the mistake of getting an Epson Stylus cx6000. The general construction was the same, but the ink wells had chips in them to "measure" the amount of ink left. Thing is, they were about 30% conservative. And when the chip said "no ink", you HAD to replace it or the whole machine would be useless (even the scanner). This Canon also has a user removable print head and 4 ink wells, but those wells are just plastic cases, they're cheaper than the epson to replace and they can be refilled.

The oddest part of this machine is the dual feeds. It's got the standard rear feed that takes many sizes (including envelopes and such), but it's also got a limited size front feed (A4, letter). This may not have immediately obvious benefits for a non-networkable printer, but it has neatened up my desktop a bit. I put my once-printed scrap paper in the front slot and use that fro printing "throw away" stuff like maps to parties, shopping lists, etc. I suppose this cold be very nice, too, if you had this as a remote printer in another room, et al.

And the other thing that sold me on this was the review that it's Mac friendly. Canon has been Mac friendly for a Very long time. In fact, they built the engines for most of the Laserwriter series. They KNOW how to build an installer, and a driver. They work well with the operating system and are nearly seamless. More than any other printer maker, I've trusted Canon on the Mac for .... about 20 years now.

Other features include boarder-less printing which allows you to print right to the edge of the page, and Pictbridge, which allows you to plug most digital cameras right in the front and print directly from the camera.

This printer would probably be OK for most people. However, when it arrived I looked at the documentation and discovered it did not work with heavy card stock. That information was not available on-line. Since we do a lot of printing on card stock I never connected the printer. It's for sale.
