PowerShot ELPH 140 IS
8x Optical Zoom

The PowerShot ELPH 140 IS features an 8x Optical Zoom so more shots are within your reach. You'll love the flexibility that the wide 28–224mm (35mm equivalent) shooting range offers. Plus, the Wide-Angle lens captures expansive image in every shot, adding depth, perspective and grandeur. Landscapes, city scenes, family shots and more benefit from the extra width. Whether you're shooting wide group shots or zooming to the telephoto end, your images are assured to be bright and clear.

Beautiful Images and Incredible Performance Start Here

PowerShot ELPH 140 IS
16.0 Megapixel sensor

With the PowerShot ELPH 140 IS camera's 16.0 Megapixels of resolution, your images are rich and clear, with textures and tiny details faithfully reproduced even at the long end of the 8x Optical Zoom. This high level of resolution is ideal for creating the largest prints, and allows you the flexibility to blow up and crop any section of an image to express your creativity.

DIGIC 4+ Image Processor

The PowerShot ELPH 140 IS camera's DIGIC 4+ Image Processor features accelerated processing speed to create fast, responsive performance, giving you a shooting experience that's easy and natural. The DIGIC 4+ Image Processor also enhances image quality in several ways. Processing of high ISO shots has been shortened by 60% compared to the DIGIC 4 Image Processor. This significantly reduces noise for brilliant color, smooth gradations, and beautiful detail even in low light. The processor also allows for the integration of electronic Dynamic IS. This advanced system compensates for multiple motion types, effectively preventing angular blur, shift blur, and blur caused by parallel movement and tilt shift. The result is images that are reliably sharp and clear at all lengths of the camera's zoom. The processor's highly efficient design also extends battery life.

Gorgeous HD Video From Your Still Camera

PowerShot ELPH 140 IS
720p HD video

Using the slim PowerShot ELPH 140 IS, you can shoot high definition video anytime, anywhere. With a simple push of the dedicated movie button, you'll be able to instantly record every moment in motion. 720p HD video is smooth, vivid, and beautifully lifelike, making it an ideal way to capture special memories.

A Smarter Camera Means Better Photos and Videos

Smart AUTO

Getting that great shot is as simple as pressing the shutter button on the PowerShot ELPH 140 IS camera with Smart AUTO, which automatically detects scenes by assessing various factors in both the background and the subject. On the PowerShot ELPH 140 IS, detected scenes are analyzed using 32 predefined shooting situations. The camera then makes optimal settings to ensure the best possible image capture, whether you're shooting stills or video. Smart AUTO also includes Advanced Subject Detection, which allows the camera to detect and track non-human moving subjects like animals and vehicles. With Smart AUTO, all you have to do is frame your shot and capture away.

Shooting Modes
Smart AUTO The camera automatically selects the best shooting settings for optimal quality based on subjects and environmental factors to provide point-and-shoot simplicity.
Program The camera automatically and intelligently selects the aperture/shutter speed combination based on the shooting conditions.
Live View Control Enables Brightness, Color, and Tone adjustments to your images using easy-to-understand controls.
Portrait Brings the subject into focus while beautifully blurring the background.
Low Light For high quality image capture in an amazing range of dimly lit situations.
Fisheye Effect Now you can get the fisheye effect – a classic photographic distortion – without a fisheye lens.
Miniature Effect Give images a miniature look with an effect that emphasizes perspective by blurring the top and bottom of the image.
Toy Camera Effect Simulates photos taken with "toy" or pinhole cameras, darkening the image at the edges to create a vignette effect.
Monochrome Choose from three single-tone effects: Black-and-White, Sepia, or Blue.
Super Vivid Super Vivid intensifies existing hues, saturating the scene with bright colors.
Poster Effect Poster Effect combines several similar shades into one color, turning subtle gradations into eye-catching, scene-popping contrasts.
Snow Shoot clear snow scenes without darkened subjects or an unnatural bluish tint.
Fireworks Create brilliant images of skyrocketing fireworks.
Long Shutter Use to blur moving subjects for artistic effect, ideal for urban night photography.
Movie Record video; unwanted scenes can be deleted in playback mode.

Actual results may vary from examples shown above.
Final image may vary depending on picture composition.

A Steady Image is a Beautiful Image

Intelligent IS

It's easy to capture clear, steady images with the PowerShot ELPH 140 IS, even in low light without using a tripod. That's because the camera is equipped with Canon's innovative Intelligent IS. The system automatically analyzes camera movement and applies the best shake correction method for the shooting situation – allowing you to focus on framing and capturing your shot. For stills, the system selects from Normal IS, Panning IS, Macro (Hybrid) IS and Tripod modes. When shooting video, the system selects from Dynamic IS, Powered IS, Macro (Hybrid) IS and active Tripod IS modes. New icons clearly mark the image stabilization mode, whether you're shooting still images or video.

Still Image Shooting
Normal IS Corrects for a wide range of camera movement when shooting stills.
Panning IS Panning motion is detected so that IS does not interfere with desired camera movement.
Macro (Hybrid) IS Corrects for shift-type camera shake, which typically occurs in macro (close-up) shooting.
Tripod When tripod use is detected, the Image Stabilizer is stopped because it is not needed.
Video Recording
Dynamic IS Effective for video shooting at wide-angle focal lengths, eliminating the unwanted shaking that typically occurs while walking.
Powered IS Compensates for hand movement when shooting video at the telephoto end of the zoom range, where camera shake is magnified.
Macro (Hybrid) IS Corrects for motion blur that is likely to occur when shooting video while walking. Also compensates for the shift-type camera shake common in macro shooting.
Active Tripod IS When shooting video while using a tripod, the image stabilization is active to compensate for slight camera shake.

More Ways to Get Creative

Creative Shooting Modes

The PowerShot ELPH 140 IS provides shooting modes that easily give your shots a distinctly artistic feel without the need for any extra lenses and filters. Super Vivid heightens and saturates colors for eye-popping intensity. Poster Effect eliminates gradations between colors for an illustrative feel. Miniature Effect enhances perspective in a scene, blurring the top and bottom to make it look as if it were created with miniature models. You can also make a quirky portrait using the Fisheye Effect or add a beautiful single-tone effect with Monochrome. Toy Camera Effect simulates a vintage look as if capturing the photo using a "toy" or pinhole camera.

A Charge that Lasts as Long as a Memory

ECO Mode

The PowerShot ELPH 140 IS features ECO Mode to provide more shots per single charge through LCD monitor and camera power management. The mode can be activated via a dedicated button for easy power preservation when you are out for the day or the moment is too exciting to put the camera down. ECO Mode quickly wakes the camera from sleep when a button is pressed so you won't miss the moment. When the fun with family and friends runs late into the evening, ECO Mode makes sure your camera keeps up.

Help You Won't Need Help to Find

Help Button

The PowerShot ELPH 140 IS camera is designed to be fun and easy to use, even for beginners. A Help Button on the camera's exterior brings up the help menu any time you need it, right on the LCD screen. From here, you can scroll through a variety of topics that answer your questions with clear explanations, offer helpful shooting advice, and show you diagrams highlighting the position of any buttons you'll need.

So far this camera has done a great job.

I spent some time finding the right case, so I will mention here that I got the Case Logic DCB-302 case, a very nice case and the camera fits very well.
Tom
This isn't good in low light, the photos are grainy.

Why? The Elph 140 has optical image stabilization, the Elph 135, around $10 cheaper, does not, so it will be hard to get a non-blurry shot with the Elph 135.

I purchased this camera locally only because I had a gift card I had to use. This was a present for a young relative of mine, but I took it for a "test drive" prior to gifting to make sure it worked right.

Wow, I can't believe how cheap Canon has become in the past 1-2 years. What is in the box? You get the camera, battery, battery charger and wrist strap; that's all. They are good enough to give you a genuine battery charger so you don't have to charge the battery inside the camera. That I like. But they don't provide a USB cable, so you can't connect the camera to your PC to download photos. Granted most computers now have the card readers built in, but if yours doesn't, you will need to buy a card reader. At least they don't cost much.

No instruction manual, you have to download it online. All you get with the camera is a small leaflet to get started.

They also don't provide a software CD. I used to love Canon's Zoom Browser software. Now you have to download it from their web site and they won't give it to you unless you provide them with the camera's serial number (which I understand why they need a serial number, but it's another way of being cheap, not providing the CD).

You will also need an SDHC card. I suggest Class 10 if you're making videos.

The LCD screen is smaller than most other cameras, only 2.7" diagonal, and somewhat hard to see in bright sunlight.

Some people just like the Canon name. That's why I say if you're dead-set on a Canon and you are looking for a basic no-frills camera, this is one.

I purchased the PowerShot ELPH 140 IS for my wife, to replace a similar but lost Canon SD 1200 IS that was several years old and never had any problems. This camera seems superior; it takes sharp pictures and has a better zoom. As with many Amazon purchases, the reviews help make the decision and I went this model to have the stabilization. We do not use any of the fancy features, just put it on Auto and it takes nice pictures. I wanted a good, easy to use, reasonably priced, small, point & shoot and this meets that need. Was concerned that maybe this was a light weight plastic case that would feel too light and cheap, but it is metal, has a nice heft (for it's size) and looks and feels like good quality. You have to separately order a memory card. I got extra points from my wife for this surprise purchase.

I spent some time finding the right case, so I will mention here that I got the Case Logic DCB-302 case, a very nice case and the camera fits very well. It is a nice size with a separate pocket for accessories, but if you want a really small case, it may be a little big. The accessory pocket will hold a flip phone.

It is too slow. Causes too many blurry pictures. Any action before the auto focus is set will result in an out of focus image.

I purchased two of these, one for my brother and one for myself for an upcoming trip that we are going on. Some of the sites we are seeing are low light and we are unable to use flash. A friend recommended this camera after I seen pictures she took of low light situations. So far it works great. I can't wait to see that it does while on vacation.
