I've read many reviews that pointed this camera as the best point and shoot camera. This is really outstanding. I've never seen a small size camera high so many resources and especially image quality. Night shots with ISO are very good. The only thing that I didn't like is the flash movement. I still must get used to the flash rising in the corner of the camera where I used to hold the camera.

While the S100 might look like the typical compact camera its performance is more like a medium format camera. Plus besides the usual idiot modes it has lots of user controls for every situation. I also have a digital SLR and I get as good or sometimes better pictures with the S100. It takes a little bit of playing with it to learn all the things it can do and learn how to use all the features. It is hard to take a bad picture with it and by using the user controls every picture is great. The only bad thing I can say about it is the battery life is a little short so make sure you buy an extra battery.

This is the best compact camera out there for everyone. I got it for $299.99 at Frys.
Even at an auto mode, the pictures looks pretty sharp. While the manual mode take some time to get top-notch picture for certain situation, you should be very please with the auto mode fine picture setting. I don't understand with the low ratings from people. Maybe they didn't bother to learn all of the features to get the best of the camera. It requires a higher learning curve than with many typical point-to-shot cameras. Too lazy to learn this camera, use your smartphone camera.

I've owned the last 3 cameras in this series (90, 95 and 100). I'd like to make a few points for possible upgraders on the new features:

- The video quality is noticeably better than the 95 and now can autofocus during shooting. The dedicated record button is a nice addition.
- I rarely use the GPS geotagging feature because it drains the battery, doesn't work indoors and it slow to get a location fix. The implementation on the iPhone 4s is much better, but Apple has the benefit of using cell and WIFI to speed up the location fix.
- The hand grip is nice, but I don't like the change of the location of the hand strap loophole. It's a bad location for right handed people
- I don't detect any change in photo quality over the 95

It's a good upgrade for S90 users. S100 owners should probably pass unless they will use it for video.

After reading many reviews of pocket size digital camera, 3 cameras were short listed: Canon IXUS 240 HS, Canon Powershot S100 and Sony RX100. I have bought the s100 because of it is thinner than the RX100 and easier to grip.
The s100 has very good design and layout of buttons, dials and on screen manuals. It gives many control options for more serious users. The boot up sound of the s100 reminds me my first digital camera, Canon A75, which brought me so much good memories and good photos.
However, the battery life of the s100 is poor. It can run flat after 1.5 hour of heavy use without activating the GPS. The pop up flash at the left corner is a bit annoying. I would wish it can be pressed down and pop up by a finger.

So far, the camera has worked well overall, similar to the previous model S95. Im a field biologist and having images stored with GPS coordinates has been awesome! I am just hoping the lens mechanism doesnt break like in the S95!

Bought this camera and the book Photographer's Guide to the Canon PowerShot S100 and love it. camera is easy to use and the book is very helpful in walking you through the various functions on this camera. My photos are already miles ahead of my old point and shoot camera. Would recommend this to anyone before stepping of to something intimidating like a DSLR.

Great small camera with big-performing optics. I had a G10 before, but needed to add GPS locations to my photos. As an added benefit, the HD video is really nice. This is my camera of choice for walking around. The manual focus for close-ups is easier to use than the G10.

I wanted a camera that was more portable than my 7D for those times when the 7D plus lens and speed light take up to much space (e.g. in a restaurant). It was a great camera to take to the beach on a recent trip to Hawaii. This camera is not a 7D but comes acceptably close. I produces high quality RAW or JPG images in AV and Auto mode. It is compact and easy to carry. The recommended Case Logic case is a perfect fit for this camera and is padded to provide protection against damage to the camera. I take great HD video. The recommended 16 GB card is more room that I need for the way I use this camera. If this was going to be my main camera and get lots of use in one shooting, I would defiantly order a second battery. The only negative about this camera, which was mentioned in all the reviews that I read, was the placement of the pop up flash which is located where the left index finger would naturally go.

I lost my old Canon that I had for 2 years and had to buy another one. Once I started using Canon Powershot S100, I was almost glad that I had lost my old Canon Powershot because the S100 is just so good. It's so easy to use it to take great pictures under almost all lighting conditions. Startup is fast. User interface and options are typical Canon, and easy to figure out. I am very happy with S100.
