Disappointing product from an indifferent manufacturer

Lens froze after 5 weeks of use. Canon said to send it in and they would repair it under warranty. Canon then unilaterally decided not to repair it, and instead to replace it with a "refurbished" camera that had deep scratches, gouges, and chips in multiple areas of body. I would rather have repaired it locally at my own expense. Canon's solution (after speaking to 3 different customer disservice representatives): send back the refurb in exchange for a different refurb. Having been purchased for my daughter's semester-long photography class, this camera's value to us is rapidly diminishing.
Bottom line: Poor reliability and even poorer customer service from Canon. Will not ever buy another Canon product.
