You can view the LCD screen over a surprisingly wide angle – above, below or to either side – without color shifts and with minimal reflections. A scratch-proof hard coating and a dust-repellent fluorine coating ensure a durable screen that dependably displays clear, vibrant images.

Simply touch the screen to choose and track an AF point, change camera settings, record and play videos and much, much more! It also has an innovative Touch Shutter function that allows you to release the shutter right from the screen. Just touch the desired subject with your finger. An AF box will appear and track the subject as it moves. Then just lift your finger to release the shutter. It’s that simple.
A Smarter Camera Means Better Photos
Photographers of all levels appreciate a camera – especially a go-anywhere compact digital – that takes the hassle out of capturing beautiful images. The PowerShot A3400 IS gives you Smart AUTO – sophisticated Canon technology that makes getting that great shot as simple as pressing the shutter button. Smart AUTO automatically detects scenes by assessing various factors in both the background and the subject. Detected scenes are analyzed using 32 predefined shooting situations. The camera then makes optimal settings to ensure the best possible image capture when shooting still images. Smart AUTO also includes Advanced Subject Detection, which allows the camera to detect and track non-human moving subjects like animals and vehicles. With Smart AUTO, all you have to do is frame your shot and capture away.

High Resolution, Highly Advanced Performance
16.0 Megapixel Image Sensor with DIGIC 4 Image Processor
With the camera's 16.0 Megapixels of resolution, your images are rich and clear, with textures and tiny details faithfully reproduced even at the long end of the 5x Optical Zoom. This high level of resolution is ideal for creating the largest prints, and allows you the flexibility to blow up and crop any section of an image to express your creativity. The DIGIC 4 Image Processor powers the camera’s advanced systems and features, ensuring fast, reliable performance with low battery consumption.
DIGIC 4 Image Processor
Canon DIGIC Image Processors have set the standard for functionality and performance since their groundbreaking introduction in 1999. With each successive generation, DIGIC processors have brought elevated performance and powerful new features to PowerShot digital cameras. The DIGIC 4 Image Processor has ushered in a new level of picture quality and accelerated processing, making possible features such as high-speed continuous shooting, HD video and Face Detection Self-timer.
Zoom in on Wider, Steadier Shots5x Optical Zoom with 28mm Wide-Angle Lens
The 5x Optical Zoom (35mm equivalent: 28-140mm) in PowerShot A3400 IS digital camera delivers outstanding optical performance and versatility. It gives you a great range of potential images from a single location, which is perfect for sporting events and other occasions when your shooting stance is fixed, or times when moving in too close might disrupt the action you're trying to capture. The lens's 28mm wide-angle perspective puts more image in every frame for dynamic, exciting shots.
Optical Image Stabilizer
Handheld shooting can often lead to camera shake, making photos and videos blurry. Canon's Optical Image Stabilizer is a sophisticated system that uses lens-shift technology to correct for unwanted camera movement. It makes handheld photography more practical, providing excellent image quality in many difficult shooting situations: outdoors at dusk, inside without a flash, and even at the telephoto end of the zoom range without a tripod. For photos, it enables shooting at slower shutter speeds, accommodating more low-light shooting situations than ever before without having to boost ISO sensitivity. With camera shake and vibration reduced, you get a sharper, steadier image. And because it is an optical system, there is none of the image degradation typical with electronic image stabilizers.
A Steady Image Is a Beautiful Image
The latest advance in Canon Optical Image Stabilization technology, Intelligent IS analyzes camera movement and applies the best shake correction method for the shooting situation. For stills, the system automatically selects among Normal, Panning, Macro (Hybrid) and Tripod IS modes. When shooting video, the system automatically selects among Dynamic, Powered, Macro and Tripod IS modes. With Intelligent IS, you can concentrate on image capture, letting the camera make the most effective IS settings to assure the steadiest possible image.
Normal Corrects for a wide range of camera movement when shooting stills.
Panning Panning motion is detected so that IS does not interfere with desired camera movement.
Macro (Hybrid) Corrects for shift-type camera shake, which typically occurs in macro (close-up) shooting.
Dynamic Effective for video shooting at wide-angle focal lengths, eliminating the unwanted shaking that typically occurs while walking.
Powered Compensates for hand movement when shooting video at the telephoto end of the zoom range, where camera shake is magnified.
Tripod When tripod use is detected, the Image Stabilizer is stopped because it is not needed.
Help You Won't Need Help to Find
The PowerShot A3400 IS digital camera is designed to be fun and easy to use, even for beginners. A new Help Button on the camera's exterior brings up the help menu any time you need it, right on the LCD screen. From here, you can scroll through a variety of topics that answer your questions with clear explanations, offer helpful shooting advice, and show you diagrams highlighting the position of any buttons you'll need.
More Ways to Get Creative
Scene Modes are fun, easy ways to give your shots a distinctly artistic feel without the need for any extra lenses and filters. Super Vivid heightens and saturates colors for eye-popping intensity. Poster Effect eliminates gradations between colors for an illustrative feel. Miniature Effect enhances perspective in a scene, blurring the top and bottom to make it look as if it were created with miniature models. You can also make a quirky portrait using the Fisheye Effect or add a beautiful single-tone effect with Monochrome. Toy Camera Effect simulates a vintage look as it capturing the photo using a toy or pinhole camera.
Charge Up and Go!
The Canon PowerShot A3400 IS digital camera uses a rechargeable Lithium-ion battery. This compact, powerful battery helps make it a lightweight and slim camera. Charge-up is quick and easy, so the PowerShot A3400 IS will be ready and waiting for those special moments.

I was somewhat skeptical about buying this due to the lack of reviews. There arent much reviews on a camera unless it's totally famous or new. So I bought it because it was sale for mothers day.
I have been using it for about a week now, took it to the zoo. It took excellent pictures, and on top of that the video function is just awesome, it looks like a movie when you're shooting it!
The only problem with this is how the price when up like crazy in a day or two. The camera bundle (red) was on sale for 120. Then the next day it was 130 (when I bought it), then the following week, I check it goes up to 220, then 200. Now it's in the 150's. Just keep your eye on it, don't buy if its over 150!
I would recommend it to everyone, unless you're a professional, then buy a bigger better camera. I am looking forward to taking this to Europe and Asia this summer :D
Oh it's touch screen too, thought it was cool when I found out by accident.
You probably wanna also buy the class 10 memory card for this camera when taking high resolution pictures due to the lag on lower class. It does come with a 4GB memory card, but use that for a backup.
The one thing that I'm not really liking is how the image color differs from the playback screen to my computer screen. It's definitely not a huge issue, but it took me by surprise when I found out that pictures appear more cool toned on the playback screen than they actually are.
Overall, I'm glad that I decided to keep my new camera purchase "in the family." My previous camera was a Canon Powershot SD1000 and this new camera is an excellent comparison.
Instead I ended up purchasing for her the Canon PowerShot ELPH 110 HS 16.1 MP CMOS Digital Camera with 5x Wide-Angle Optical Image Stabilized Zoom Lens and Full 1080p HD Video and returning this one.
The primary reasons are that we found the Elph 110 HS excels in low light situations if put in 'manual' mode, and the A3400 does not handle low light as well as the Canon Powershot Elph 110 HS. The Elph 110 HS has a maximum 3200 ISO in manual mode, versus the A3400's 1600 ISO. Neither camera will reach their full ISO in automatic mode, according to Canon. In auto mode, the Elph 110 HS will normally stop around 2200 ISO and the A3400 will stop around 1200 ISO, according to Canon.
In addition, the Elph 110 HS records video in HD 1080p at 24 fps or 720p at 30 fps, while the A3400 records at 720p at 25 fps.
We tried both cameras and compared images and videos from both cameras, and preferred the images/videos taken with the Elph 110 HS. Although the low light images taken in manual mode look a little "pushed" from both cameras, to use a darkroom phrase. I think it's because it is such a high ISO that it is like using a high-speed film and can't look entirely natural.
Yet the A3400 does a good job overall; we got bright and pleasing shots with it. So you will get good stills or videos with this camera. Canon makes excellent point-and-shoot cameras so if you choose this one for casual point-and-shoot photography, you won't be disappointed.Read more ›
I agree that it is not very easy to use the screen in sunlight.
