Not only is the printer an ink-hog, unlike other cannons i've owned in 20+ years of the graphics industry, it extorts you to buy it's ink. i bought this to use as light office use in printing, but mostly for the other functions. i have a professional Epson for my graphics. i recently learned if it is low on ANY ink (including a ruinously expensive "clear" ink), it will not scan, copy, or fax ELECTRONICALLY without its ink tanks all running--things that do not require any ink at all. i have been put in a in a serious professional disadvantage on time deadlines. i needed to have some electronic data sent to a client only to have my cannon refuse to work electronically because of an empty ink package. i feel extorted. i have bought $125+ ink packs from authorized dealers that did not fit this printer (non-returnable because it was opened.) i've bought the correct ink packs, yet another $125+ to find that did not include all the ink needed in the printer. there are at least 2 other inks sold separately that are required as well. none of the box stores stock this ink--one has to wait for internet orders to be delivered--yet another time constraint.
i had been planning on trying a new (and expensive) canon point and shoot camera that now takes photos in a format i need for my business, so not to carry around a large Nikon SLR. i will not buy it now. i will never give canon another dime for any product it makes because of the greed and hubris that went into designing this product. as a designer myself, i refuse to believe that this was not a planned and executed design to force users to buy ink. all the printer companies make MUCH more money on the back end selling its inks.
i have never seen any product in my career that has been as frustrating and infuriating and this canon product.
