4.0 out of 5 stars Canon RC-1 is a better choice (same price)
This is a nice gadget, but with one disadvantige over RC-1.. With RC-5 you CAN`T take pictures instantly, but only with a 2 sec. delay, and on RC-1 you have the choice. Other than that there isn`t much more to say, i mean it is only one button remote.. :) But offcourse, before you decide to buy RC-1 instead RC-5 check will it work with your camera (i have 300D (digital...

2.0 out of 5 stars What's all of this waiting about?
OK the remote works fine in communicating with the camera and all of that, but it has a big drawback for me and something I wish I had found out before I purchased it. You have to wait for a 2sec delay after you push the shutter button on the remote for the camera to fire. There are other remotes for Canon DSLR's that are right at the same price and give you the option of...

Bought this for my Canon Rebel XT so I could shoot on a tripod and not have to worry about camera shake from pressing the shutter button, or wait 10 seconds for the timer for every picture. It makes the wait for long exposures that much quicker and more efficient.

Sometimes it's a little tricky to get a signal on it since you can only click it from the front of the camera, but it's a negligible annoyance.

Also, it does auto-focus the camera when you click, so if you're auto-focusing through the camera yourself already, I'd suggest getting a focus on your object and then switching it to manual focus, so the camera doesn't try to re-focus on something else.

All in all, great product.

I am using this remote with a Canon EOS Digital Rebel and it works great! It would be nice to get the RC-1 so there isn't a 2 sec delay, but for my needs the RC-5 is fine.

You have to wait for a 2sec delay after you push the shutter button on the remote for the camera to fire. There are other remotes for Canon DSLR's that are right at the same price and give you the option of firing with you click the button or to have a 2 second delay. Trust me having both options is way better than being limited to just one of them.

The Canon RC-5 does what it promises: remotely trigger the shutter. Keep in mind that there is a 2 second delay between pressing the button and the shutter action. This allows you, if you are in the field of view, to put your hand down and hide the remote so that it is not in the shot.

5.0 out of 5 stars Canon Wireless Remote, February 10, 2011

This review is from: Canon RC-5 Wireless Remote Controller for Canon XT/XTi, XSi, 7D and T1i Digital SLR Cameras (Electronics)
Being new to the world of digital cameras I was excited about being able to take a group picture without having to leave one person out to take the picture, or having to run to get in the picture within the timer count down. This product not only will allow you to take a remote picture, but will also allow you to set a 2 second delay, which is not mentioned in the listing. The 2 second delay allows you just enough time to hid the remote before the shutter releases. This makes for great pictures. You are limited to taking pictures within 16 feet so long as there is line-of-sight between the wireless remote and the front IR sensor on the camera; in my case a Canon 7D. I recommend this product to amateurs and professionals alike.

This review is from: Canon RC-5 Wireless Remote Controller for Canon XT/XTi, XSi, 7D and T1i Digital SLR Cameras (Electronics)
It's a decent product for the price.

Pros:
1) Don't have to run for the camera every time you need to take a picture.
2) Simple to set up, just set it to timer.
3) It can fit in any camera bag.

Cons:
1) Doesn't play well with multiple canon cameras on site.
2) MAKE SURE YOU ALREADY HAVE A TRIPOD FIRST.
3) Still hard to use in a crowded area.

number 1 is the only valid con. When you have a Rebel XT and a Rebel XSi, one remote works for both, which messes with both the flash gauges. Other then that rare possibility, it is a really good device,

Got this tool to help take family photos when no one else was around, better than using timer, especially with kids moving around

5.0 out of 5 stars 2 second delay has its advantages, March 24, 2009
This review is from: Canon RC-5 Wireless Remote Controller for Canon XT/XTi, XSi, 7D and T1i Digital SLR Cameras (Electronics)
I bought this remote mostly to take family portraits and vacation photos that include myself. The 2 second delay is an advantage because it gives me time to hide the remote. If you don't need the 2 second delay or if it's something that bugs you, definitely go for the RC-1.
