1.0 out of 5 stars Lack of drivers Mac users stay away!
Bought this product, loved it, used it for a few weeks. Upgraded my laptop to Mac OS Lion and now the drivers don't work. Canon keeps saying they will have Lion compatible drivers Q4 of 2011. Why the huge delay? My Brother and HP printers both work and have Lion compatible drivers. This product is now a brick on my desk for last few months, thanks Canon!

I have this printer in black, but it's the same model as the white one here.

This is my first photo printer and I absolutely love it. It's nice to be able to print photos at home, without having to upload them and make a trip to the drugstore to pick them up. And if you watch for sales here at Amazon, the price per print breaks down to within 1 or 2 cents of what you would pay elsewhere.

In fact, this printer can be used several ways:
By printer cable connected to your PC
By inserting a memory card in the slot in front (almost every card is compatible, but xD cards need some type of adapter)
By connecting your digital camera direct to the USB port
By a USB Flash Memory
From your mobile phone (Bluetooth)

You will need to pick up a USB printer cable - I removed the cable I had hooked up to my laser printer and connected to this printer, it's not a big deal. To take advantage of the Canon software that comes with this (with frames, templates for different seasons and holidays, etc.), it needs to be connected to your computer. (Although you can use this not being hooked up to the PC, by using the flip-up LCD screen on the printer.)

You will need to buy more ink and paper. It comes with a starter pack to make only 5 prints. Make sure you load the paper cassette glossy side up - I wasted my first print by using the wrong side of the paper. It comes with the postcard size paper cassette, which makes 4" x 6" prints.

Set-up was easy; if you are familiar using a laser printer or a fax machine, works pretty much the same way. You slide the ink cartridge in the side until it clicks and the paper cassette installs the same as a LaserJet paper cartridge does - by sliding into the front until it clicks.

And I have to tell you, the print quality is excellent! Just as good, if not better, than the prints I had made at the local big box store that starts with W.

When using the printer without being hooked up to your PC, you have the options of adding the date, auto correcting the color, correcting red eye, making the people in the picture have smooth skin (I love this one!), border or borderless, printing in various color settings such as vivid, neutral, sepia, or black & white. In other words, you can do just about anything without using your PC - I just prefer using my photo printer hooked to the computer as the 2.5" LCD screen is a strain on my eyes.

The battery is not included with the printer, and they are expensive, and I really don't see the need at this time for the battery, since almost anyplace I go has electricity and the power cord that came with this is fairly long.

Using the Canon software, I was able to create a Holiday card of my dog - which I have taken a picture of and uploaded here in the customer images. I will have a blast doing my Holiday cards this year.

Imagine the fun you could have taking this to the next party of family reunion you go to - take this along with your digital camera and create instant memories for everyone to take home with them. That's what I plan on doing!

Pros: Canon provides excellent instructions. The printer is compact & small. The paper & ink resources load easily. The quality of the 4x6 prints is very high!
Cons: Canon's initial supply of paper & ink in the box is ridiculously small. Be sure to buy a full load in addition to the new printer. I did not buy the optional battery that makes the printer totally portable. The battery nearly doubles the price of the printer.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great printer!, November 2, 2010

I love this printer. It has a lot of great features and the pictures look great when they come out. I love the option to use a flash drive, as that comes in handy opposed to hooking the whole printer up to my computer. The shuffle option is really cool too, as well as the disc that gives options to add borders etc to the pic. The only thing I'm not thrilled about at this point is that I've noticed on any cropped pics that were done on the computer, they print out closer than what they were cropped to. The printer somehow zooms up on it. I haven't found a way to resolve that, if there is even a way. It would be nice if the printer allowed you to crop directly on the printer! It is a good investment though, and I'm happy I did it! I've recommended this to many people already :)

1.0 out of 5 stars Canon Leaving the Mac Platform - Beware, November 25, 2011
This review is from: Canon SELPHY CP800 White Compact Photo Printer (4595B001) (Office Product)
It looks like Canon is largely leaving the Macintosh platform, so beware of buying any of their products with the hope to use them on Macs. This is not the only printer for which they have discontinued drivers. Many of their products do not work with the new Lion OS (10.7) including products which are only months old. It's left me with quite a lot of paper and ink which cannot be used with my new computer. My suggestion would be to stay away from not only their printers, but also cameras and other products, as they have determined that Windows will receive future driver support.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing developer, September 21, 2011
This review is from: Canon SELPHY CP800 White Compact Photo Printer (4595B001) (Office Product)
Bought one for the wife. Had to buy another for her aunt, then another for the daughter. Prints crisp clear pictures and the paper and ink refills are really not that expensive. Excellent product

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous prints every time and you can post process..., September 20, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Canon SELPHY CP800 White Compact Photo Printer (4595B001) (Office Product)
This printer could not be any easier to load "dye sub ink" or paper. Makes beautiful prints with one touch of a button in under a minute. I was concerned when I read some reviews about not being able to print post processed photo's. I use a Canon DSLR with "L" lenses and shoot only in RAW so print quality is very important to me. Although you can print RAW right from the camera attached to the printer via USB, you can not print RAW from a SD card, must be JPEG from SD cards. I post process my RAW pictures in Lightroom 3 and then save as a JPEG photo and as long as the EXIF information remains with the image the instructions say you can print the photo. I then drag and drop the post processed JPEG photo onto a thumb drive inserted into a USB port on my computer. I take the thumb drive and plug into the printer and the printer recognizes the thumb drive and you choose what you want to print from the little LCD screen on the printer. I have had a few inkjet printers but always found some problems when wanting to print a photo after non use for a time. Seems I was always out of ink on one of the five colors or the jets were clogged, always something. I hope this dye sub system will eliminate all of that. So far (5 pictures) I can't find anything about it not to like, the prints are very high quality. I never installed the software that came with the printer as I have all sorts of photo programs, so I can't comment on that.

I wanted a printer my daughter could use with her camera so she could do her own scrapbooking. This printer was easy to setup and easy to use. She loves it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Windows 7 Install Issues, July 27, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Canon SELPHY CP800 White Compact Photo Printer (4595B001) (Office Product)
I bought this printer for printing photos. I read the reviews and the only negative ones were that PC cropped images may not print as cropped and the slightly more per print cost. As to the first complaint, the manual indicates that PC cropped images may not print as cropped.

The problem I had was with a Windows 7 install. No matter what I did, whether using the CD provided, downloading the drivers directly from Canon, switching user, etc., the printer would not install. Every time I tried to install it (after uninstalling the previously unsuccessful attempt), it showed up in printers and devices as a device other than a printer (identified as a Canon Selphy CP800). A call to Canon did not improve on this result (although the person was very courteous and went through a number of different steps with me).

It installed easily on a Mac and Windows XP machine. So, I can use the printer, just not on the PC I primarily use. If you only have a Windows 7 machine, be forewarned.

Love this product! The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that I had to go spend $15 more for a USB cord...really should come with that, since the connection was not one that matched any of the other USB cords that I have a ton of!
