5.0 out of 5 stars Canon z155 Excellent Camera and Features!
I love this camera because the pics come out so clear and detailed. Each of the settings are a must. I like to use the night setting for taking pics at night time. Faces actually came out without that ghost look. Portrait mode is great and balances the brightness/contrast evenly. Action mode is also a must because it took great action pics at a soccer game. This camera is completely inconsistent. I took multiple pictures of shorelines and things like that while standing in the same spot, and each of the pictures that I took came out differently, but they were all taken from the same spot with the same lighting conditions and such. Also, I took all of my pictures in beautiful tropical weather and they all came out looking...

Overall the auto mode is great and it will work great in common conditions. Another good feature that I'm not to crazy about that's also a plus is the captions. This allows you to add words to the pic such as "I love you" or "Happy Birthday". The captions are limited but I could care less about that. Otherwise you will love this camera. I bought it on sale for ... Just shop around but if you can't wait, just go for it. You will not be sorry. The Canon Z155 truly delievers.

This camera is completely inconsistent. I took multiple pictures of shorelines and things like that while standing in the same spot, and each of the pictures that I took came out differently, but they were all taken from the same spot with the same lighting conditions and such. Also, I took all of my pictures in beautiful tropical weather and they all came out looking like it was dark and gloomy, and I was just using the automatic setting. It did terrible in low lighting situations as well. I realize that automatic cameras are not the best idea for truly amazing photos, but if you're looking for a camera that works well in different situations, this is not it.

You know, I actually thought to myself that maybe I was doing something wrong, but I've taken 4 years of photo and I've been taking pictures with various cameras (automatic & manual) for as long as I can remember and I have never had a camera that provided me with so much inconsistency (except for maybe a Pentax I used to have).

I definitely do not recommend this camera as a good automatic one. I think a disposable camera would provide you with better results. It does have some cool features on it, but the picture quality is lacking in return. I returned it and got a Minolta 160 instead and I'm still waiting to get my first roll of film back. Let's hope I have a better review for that camera when I do!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Camera - Fun Features - Excellent Pictures, December 29, 2003
By
This review is from: Canon Sure Shot Z155 Caption Date Zoom 35mm Camera (Electronics)
Bought this camera in a pinch as our old one broke two days before Christmas. Didn't get a chance to read the reviews here first (and I'm glad I didn't or I probably would not have bought it!). I quickly snapped a roll of 24-exposure film to try the camera out and see if we wanted to keep it.

The pictures came out BEAUTIFULLY! I took some indoors, some out. Some with the fully automatic point-and-shoot, and expermimented with the potrait mode, sports action mode, and night mode. They all came out fantastically!

It's like having two cameras in one - a fully automatic no-brainer point and shoot as well as some features that allow you to be more creative and experimental with photography if you want to. Also a great zoom.

Canon must have corrected the issues that some of the eariler reviewers posted, because I did not experience any of these problems.

2.0 out of 5 stars Inconsistent, May 24, 2003

I bought this camera about 10 months ago and have taken it on 4 vacations. It has been terribly inconsistent. I've only gotten consistent photos on 1 trip; the photos of the other 3 trips have been a major disappointment. I usually only use my camera for vacation, and clear, beautiful pictures are very important to me. My photos of Hawaii and London were dark, unfocused, and overall just not good. I use the same place and same people to develop my photos. I take a digital camera along on all my trips, and my digital photos turn out amazing; the digital photos are usually taken right after my film photos, so their subjected to the same conditions as the film.
My mother has a Canon Sure Shot 115 and it takes great photos, so I thought I would give Canon a try. I had a Minolta Freedom Zoom 140, and I believe it takes better photos than this Canon, and the Minolta was doused in sea water on a cruise!

Overall, for this amount of money, I would shop around. This camera is just too inconsistent. Also, I have problems with it wanting to focus "lock" on a subject, and if it won't lock, you can't take a picture. The zoom is also very noisy.

I was surprised to read all the negative reviews about the canon z155. My own experience with this camera has been basically positive. Since purchasing the camera 7 months ago, the majority of my prints have been sharp, clear, colors bright and true to life. The only drawback i can think of is the pictures do tend to blur when using full zoom without a tripod. I dont think this is specifically Canon's problem, though, because photography books all recommend using a tripod when using a high zoom. At 155mm, one needs a very steady hand or the pictures blur. When I do use a tripod, even my pictures at the highest zoom come out crystal clear. I'd recommend this camera anytime!

3.0 out of 5 stars not so happy...., May 5, 2003

This review is from: Canon Sure Shot Z155 Caption Date Zoom 35mm Camera (Electronics)
i was using a canon sure shot 85 zoom for about 4 years and decided i wanted to "move up" to something newer and "better". i was sadly disappointed with this canon z155 camera. the 85 takes better or equally good pictures as the z155! the zoom is longer BUT the quality greatly diminishes when using that long zoom so basicly it defeats the purpose in my opinion... clear pictures are important to me! and especially if im going to pay $... for a point and shoot camera it especially better take goooooood pictures ya know? well, the close up pictures taken with little zoom came out nice and clear- as wil most any camera... but as i mentioned earlier when the zoom was used most of the way the quality was sad... the night shot mode was nice but that is included in a lot of cameras these days... i took a picture of a dollhouse lit only by a night light and the picture came out clear and lit. there were glares on my daughters eyes and other little things that all but ruin a good picture :( basicly i would NOT recommend this camera..(especially for as much as it costs!) if you really want more than about 80 mm zoom i would recommend going SLR. maybe canon will come out with abetter long zoom soon.. ...

1.0 out of 5 stars Blurry Pictures!!!, August 1, 2003
This review is from: Canon Sure Shot Z155 Caption Date Zoom 35mm Camera (Electronics)
I was very disappointed when I got my film developed from the Canon Z155!! I went to a concert, took 5 rolls of film, and only like 24 pics came out halfway decent...ALL of the zoomed pictures came out blurry, no matter what setting I tried or what speed of film!! I even had front row, and most didn't come out!! Very Very disappointed... I would not recommend this camera if you want zoomed photos! Even the outdoor zoomed pics were not top quality!!

Overall I'm happy with this camera. I had to replace a point and shoot pentax. I'm pretty happy with the pics I get with this point and shoot. I've gotten a few blurry ones, that I may have moved. Unfortunately the price wasn't as good when I bought it. It has an optional remote control which I was used to on my pentax and the zoom is longer. Overall a good camera.

1.0 out of 5 stars Worst camera ever, October 31, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Canon Sure Shot Z155 Caption Date Zoom 35mm Camera (Electronics)
I am so glad after seeing the other reviews to know that I'm not crazy- this camera really is awful! The inconsistent quality of photos is dreadful, with many underlit and blurry for no clear reason. I love my other Cannon and wish they would stay away from making such supposedly "smart" cameras.

1.0 out of 5 stars Was The Worse Camera I Ever Come Across, March 2, 2003
By
This review is from: Canon Sure Shot Z155 Caption Date Zoom 35mm Camera (Electronics)
I bought this camera a month before I go on my vacation. Because I trust Canon, I didn't think that it would be a problem. But little that I know when the day I arrive in a tropical island and loaded the film, it doesn't work and wouldn't let me take any pictures. I call Canon's technical support line and they are not being very helpful at all. They went over with me the procedures that I already know. It's the same thing as the instructions.
Overall, this camera ruin my trip. I have to go and buy 5 disposable camera so I would have any pictures for this trip.
