Cannon Zoom Lens for a85,
By
This review is from: Canon TCDC52 2.4x Tele Conversion Lens for Powershot A10, A20, A40, A60, A70, A75 & A85 (Electronics)
I used this on the cannon A85. It worked very well. I got some nice shots at the Kennedy Space Center (where you cannot always get close to the sites).
The shortcoming is that when the camera is on low magnification (zoom level where the standard lens would work), the shot does not fill up the screen. It is like you are looking down a tube. So if you are going back and forth between close shots and far away shots, you need to change lenses.

A good lens, but it has some interesting limitations...,

As an amateur photographer who grew up on a Canon SLR, I needed more out of my digital Canon Powershot A70. A simple tele-converter seemed to be a good start. However, this lens has some interesting drawbacks that might not be intuitive or expected. 1. It requires a adapter conversion ring to connect it to the camera, because the zooming standard lens needs space to extend outward - the ring (tube)provides that inch or so. I expect this conversion ring could have been built into the tele-conversion lens rather than requiring a separate purchase. 2. Until the camera's standard lens is in almost full zoom mode, you will find that the conversion ring causes your field of view to be framed in a black ring. That is, it appears you are taking a picture through a porthole. It does provide a certain, often dramatic, effect to your photos but can also be annoying such as when you don't require full zoom x tele-conversion magnification. It's a good, clear lens and with full magnification might require your use of a stabilizing device (tripod, etc.) particularly in low-light conditions. Take some test shots to get the feel and capability. Yes, I'm happy with the lens overall, but only after I understood its limitations. In fact, I do occasionally use the circular frame to my advantage.

Very nice. If you zoom in to much you will get darkening on the edges but over all a nice lens.

Not as useful as I had hoped. and it is only useful for a specific zoom. And it does not fit my newer Canon Powershot

Not for the Canon Powershot S1, S2, S3 or S5,

There seems to be some confusion about this lens. It works great with the Canon A series cameras, but it will not work with S series. The S3 cannot focus with this lens on it.
Just a heads up for the S series owners.

Lens screws to adapter (Canon LA-DC52C) easily. Works well with Canon PowerShot A75.
