Expensive necessity, November 30, 2006
This review is from: Canon Tripod Mount Ring A (W) (Personal Computers)
Spending over $120CAN for this item to mount on my Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L IS USM lens was a painful purchase. Personally, it's a money grabbing monopolistic venture by Canon. But, it's the only mount I can find to fit this lens to remove the stress at the lens mount and camera base.
This accessory works well and doesn't transfer vibration to the lens like some of the 'higher-end' Nikkor zoom lens mounts (i.e. AF VR Zoom-Nikkor 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6D ED and AF-S Nikkor 300mm f/4D IF-ED).

If you use a monopod...,, September 21, 2009
This review is from: Canon Tripod Mount Ring A (W) (Personal Computers)
If you use a monopod with your telephoto, this accessory is a must for two reasons: first, it will allow you to change your camera orientation instantly from "landscape" to "portrait" and vice versa without having to disconnect your camera from your monopod; and second, it better balances the weight of the camera and telephoto by moving the attachment point from the camera body to the telephoto lens itself. As a bonus, now that the point of attachment is in the lens rather than the camera body, it gives you a couple of inches more in your monopod height.
If you are considering buying this item, you can find it in eBay for $15 or less. I don't understand why this is worth over $100 here. It is just a metal bracket in the shape of a ring that goes around your telephoto lens. The ring itself is lightweight (4.24 oz), and of solid construction. The inside is covered with some velour-type material to reduce friction and scratching. It is not like it made with space-age materials or requires precise machining like lens-polishing.
I give this item 5 stars because it is very useful if you shoot with a telephoto for extended periods of time. But 0 stars because of the ridiculously high price.

FAKE, May 28, 2009
This review is from: Canon Tripod Mount Ring A (W) (Personal Computers)
I became something else as I payed for.
The item is called "Canon Tripod Mount Ring A(W)" in amazon, but acctually the name written on the ring is "for Canon Tripod Mount Ring A(W)" it also does not look like the ring on photo. I knew that original canon ring costs more money, but I thought it is a rabate or old model. But I became a fake. I'm not angry that I have a fake, because it was really cheap, but I'm angry that amazon sold me a fake as original.
