Yes it does have a AC cord and yes the battery life on these is useless. I can do a few small videos and the batt is dead . Would not recommend forts of vacation videos but for short videos around the house it's good quality
The camera uses AVCHD format, which Final Cut Pro X "reads" and works with. The files will transfer to your Mac OK, but you may have issues depending on what program you use to video edit. iMovie (the latest version) apparently reads AVCHD files. However, your safest bet is to get a converter app/program to do this for you. Try wondershare.net, or just google apps that convert AVCHD to .mov. There are plenty out there.
