4.0 out of 5 stars Wide Angle adapter from Canon
I purchased the WC-DC58N along with the adapter converter LA-DC58G. At first I was very disappointed because each of the corners were rounded off, making for a vignetted effect. Then I read the manual that came with my Canon A710 where it instructed to turn on a Converter setting on the camera using the Menu AND remove the small ring on the LA-DC58G. Now the photos look...

This adapter vignettes badly at wide-angle settings on my A700, so much so
that the field of view for which there is no vignetting is essentially identical
to that without the adapter at the widest setting of the regular lens.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wide Angle adapter from Canon, June 29, 2007
This review is from: Canon WCDC58N Wide Angle Converter Lens Adapter for Canon A710, A700, A640, A630, A610, A620, A720IS, G3, G5 & G6 Digital Cameras (Electronics)
Now the photos look great and no black around the edges. The lens is larger than I expected but it should do a great job at taking inside shots of rooms (with no flash) which is why I purchased it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great lens for the money, November 3, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Canon WCDC58N Wide Angle Converter Lens Adapter for Canon A710, A700, A640, A630, A610, A620, A720IS, G3, G5 & G6 Digital Cameras (Electronics)
I thought twice before buying this lens. It wasn't designed specifically for my Canon A620, it required the purchase of an adapter ring, and it blocks the flash.

Having said that, the lens feels good on the camera (even with Canon's plastic adapter) and the pictures are what I was hoping for. I use it all the time. It's great for assembling panoramics, and doesn't suffer from any unexpected distortions (beyond the horizontal bending you get from any wide angle lens).

Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars A worthwhile Wide angle, May 9, 2007
This review is from: Canon WCDC58N Wide Angle Converter Lens Adapter for Canon A710, A700, A640, A630, A610, A620, A720IS, G3, G5 & G6 Digital Cameras (Electronics)
As mentioned in previous reviews, this lens gets in the way of the viewfinder on most of the products it fits, so it is necessary to use the lcd for proper framing, and you really need to use an external flash for indoor shots. Despite this,it makes wide angle shots possible on a fixed lens camera, which is what it was designed for. Without an external flash, you will experience black spots. Edge distortion is minimal, and even with a SLR/wide angle lens combination, your going to experience a similar result. How many times have you tried to photograph a room and not been able to get much of the room in the picture? This lens definitely helps in that situation. Outdoors is where this conversion lens really shines, creating a landscape effect. Hope this info helps anyone on the fence about investing in this product.

4.0 out of 5 stars It's really BIG, February 8, 2008
This review is from: Canon WCDC58N Wide Angle Converter Lens Adapter for Canon A710, A700, A640, A630, A610, A620, A720IS, G3, G5 & G6 Digital Cameras (Electronics)
3 things you should know:
1. You need to buy the adapter to fit the lens to your camera.
2. It's bigger, heavier than you might expect. perhaps too awkward when attached to a pocket sized camera--like my A620. If you are going to be walking around taking pictures with this lens you might consider some kind of neck strap or harness. The lens/adapter is easily removed, but then what? Better have a shoulder bag or huge pockets. This lens weighs as much and takes up more room than the A620.
3. Don't expect to use the built-in flash, the lens will block it.

It helped me take some great pictures--no complaint about that!

4.0 out of 5 stars Canon WCDC58N Wide Angle Converter Lens Adapter Review, November 10, 2006

The adapter is great. No issues, and the shipment was received in a very quick time-frame.

The lens blocks the flash on the Canon G6, but other than that, the pictures have turned out great! It was all that I was hoping for.

This adapter vignettes badly at wide-angle settings on my A700, so much so
that the field of view for which there is no vignetting is essentially identical
to that without the adapter at the widest setting of the regular lens.
Thus absolutely nothing has been gained by using the adapter. Canon, normally a
responsible firm with many excellent products, is beneath contempt in marketing
this lens. I called Canon customer service and spoke with a sympathetic
representative who took the matter up with "someone else". The outcome was that
they admit that there "is very little increase" in the non-vignetted field of view
by using this adapter. She said she would put my comments on a company-internal
problem compilation called "customer voice". I can only hope it reaches someone
high enough to do some good!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great choice for VIXIA HF S21, June 30, 2010

I went through many lenses for the VIXIA HF S21, including those recommended by Canon (the WD-H58 for example). This is a great choice if you don't want the heavy WD-H58 but still want 0.7x demagnification. Fits on the camera perfectly, and the full zoom range is available with no vignetting. Best of all, weight and cost is significantly less than the WD-58!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great wide angle lens, February 7, 2007

This lens is as sharp as the primary lens. It's only draw back is the need for a side flash.

If you use this lens you'll need the flash attachment or you wont be able to use it in indoors or in low light. The lens bell is in the way of the built in flash. Other then that it gets you up close.
