canon can!!,
This review is from: Canon i350 Color Bubble Jet Printer (Office Product)
My first printer was an epsom, which when i bought it in 1998 i was very impressed. when it went to the great printshop in the sky i was looking for something cheap and cheerful to replace it as my expereince showed that all printers were expensive... not the case.after reading a few favourable reviews i opted for the canon 350 which cost me £69 (+ £8 for a usb lead) it took me a matter of minutes to install and the results were not just great but wow. to buy a colour and black ink will cost me about £18 as opposed to the £40 or so for the epsom. only down side is that it's a little noisey compared to the epsom. to summarise

Great Value Printer,

This is my second canon, my first was an i320. I only changed because I gave the i320 to my parents and I bought the i350 because it prints faster. The set up was a breeze. I print a lot of articles from online webpages and the quality is great. I do not use it for pictures though so I cannot talk about that aspect. What is great is that the ink lasts a while and you can get cheap refills when you need it, I usually get a generic at a local office supplies store or online whichever has the best deal going. And finally buying it at an auction makes it an even sweeter deal since you only pay a fraction of the retail price and most come new. You do need to buy a seperate USB printer cable. You can also get it at an online auction for cheap. Yes it is a bit noisy, it has a "pre and post printing noise", but that does not bother me since it does a good Job and saves me money.

Cheap refills...til you need a print head.,

We liked this printer for it's good quality printing, and cheap ink tanks, but on the second color cartridge the magenta nozzles clogged, and I've pretty much burned all the ink in the brand new cartidges trying to get it to work. Now I wish the cartridge came with a new print head like my old worn out lexmark...
Going through Canon's interactve "troubleshooting", it seems like they don't believe the print head can fail. I've done a lot of searching tonight, and I can't seem to find replacement print heads sold anywhere... I can't recommend this printer.

I've had canon bubble jets for years, starting all the way back with the BJC 200. The brand name, the reviews, and especially the vertical sheet feed is what does it for me over the HPs, works great when printing partial sheets of checks. However, the Canon's don't tend to last that long - I think this is my 4th one in the last 10 years. When my last one stopped working (a 2110), I got the i350.The good news is, the setup is a complete breeze, and it seems faster than the 2110. However, this is outweighed by the bad news. First, it no longer uses a printer cable, it's only USB. This is nice for forwards compatibility and all, but those things are $$$. Second, and more importantly, the thing is LOUD. It has a "Quiet mode" which makes it marginally quieter when printing, but it does a pre-print "warmup" and post-print "cooldown" which are both annoyingly loud, they make me jump. So, in sum, if the noise doesn't bother you, go for it, otherwise I'd recommend you look elsewhere.

I bought this printer based on the PC World review, the reviews here, the price, and the small footprint. The last two were important to me. I can't speak to durability after using it for a week, but it was 40 bucks - if a print head really dies, I can replace it and still will have paid less than the price of the HP I would've purchased otherwise.Compared with my old HP inkjet, this printer is just as easy to set up, the quality of the output is just as good, the noise when preparing to print is no greater, and the speed is a huge improvement. The same might be true of a new HP of course, but I'm amazed at how quickly text prints in draft mode. It fits nicely in the small space I have available, where the output tray can be hidden away when I'm not printing, allowing me to fully open a door next to my desk. If I wanted, I could fit this nicely on the computer tower also, not the case for the HP I would have chosen otherwise. My only difficulty was a moment of confusion installing the printer. After installing the print driver (no problem), the installer for optional printer software said to uninstall any previous versions. I had software installed to import images from my Canon digital camera, and it wasn't clear whether that needed to be removed and replaced based on the onscreen messages. Since I simply wanted to use this printer to print text, didn't need the optional software, and didn't really feel like spending time with tech support, I simply skipped the optional software. If you have other Canon hardware and don't want to skip this step, you may have to do a little research first.

Print heads fail,

I have both the i250 and the i350. The i250 print head failed after 3 months of use (blank lines in the middle of words), but was still under warranty, so I managed to persuade Canon to send me a new print head. BTW, the print head costs about $45 to $50... almost the same as cost of the printer. Next, I upgraded to the i350. This time, the print head took 8 months to fail...same problem. I regard these as disposable printers, nothing more. They work great until the print heads fail.

Good Experience,

I bought this printer because it was getting good reviews and was very inexpensive. When I recieved the printer the box had a giant hole in it and the packaging in the inside was broken but the printer looked fine. Set up is extremely easy and impossible to screw up. So I was very suprised when the printer was showing that there was an error with the ink cartriges. I called Canon and after a few minutes they determined that there was some sort of hardware problem. They sent a brand new printer which arrived the next day. The second one set up in a couple of minutes and works perfectly. Also I ended up with extra ink cartriges because the only thing Cannon wanted back was the printer and print head. The printer works great (a little noisey and slow, but inexpensive) and Canon had excellent customer service. I suspect that the printer was damaged during delivery and not during manufacturing.

I've had several printers (epson, HP, lexmark) for personal use. This is a little noisy than the others. Speed is Ok and quality is very good for the price.

Good printer but small ink capacity,

In our household we have both an i350 and an i250. On both we like the print quality and ease of use. The i250 does sometimes need to be set on high quality printing to get a good looking Word document out of it. Never had that problem with the i350.
Only complaint; these less expensive ink cartridges are smaller than I am used to and seem to require replacement more frequently. The price when I first puchased this was around $7 for a black cartridge. It has increased by over a dollar so I have begun to purchase Staple's private label brand cartridges. One other word of advice; this printer uses Canon's BCI-24 cartridge, which is a little more difficult to find in local stores than their more common BCI-21 cartridge. It's frustrating to see a great buy on cartridges at BJ's Wholesale Club, only to realize that the only Canon they stock is the 21.

What it does it does good,

Hi, I was searching for cheap, fast, quality B&W and reliable printer for home priting. So far only pleasant suprises. 1. Separate replaceable print head and ink tanks. 2. Ink is CHEAP. one black cartridge lasts about 300-350 one side pages in draft mode (see next) still i did 3. Increadible good and fast draft mode for documents. In my oppinion it's better than normal mode because on sheets i use 'normal' mode does not look any different just tends to soak the paper.(i use plain A4 sheets) 4. It's not so loud as people say It does not bother me much. 5. It's pretty fast for an inkjet printer. Overall it's very good. Better than my previous 3 owned. I hope it lasts long :) so i can firm my good impression. |
