5.0 out of 5 stars Canon I470D, a great printer at a great price
There is not really that much to say about it, I see it as an excellent printer with very good software, fairy fast and does a good job, you dont have to cash in your CD,s or IRA,s to buy it.
Ink consumption is low, results are high.
About the most useful software I,ve ever seen on any printer.

3.0 out of 5 stars A bit drab
Yes the printer has some nice features. Low price ink (about 10.00 per cartridge), memory card reading (reads as another drive and can write to card, But when it comes time to print photos they are flat and lifeless. I compared three photos printed from my deskjet 5550 and all came up so short I threw them out. The deskjet won hands down. It made friends look pale with...

You plug into the printer directly with your media cards, smart media, compact flash, multimedia and something else I think.
If you have a Canon digital camera you can use your existing usb plug and go directly into the printer.
Push a button and you quickly get a picture of what you,ll be getting, by the way, when you plug in a media card, no adapters are required.
A very good printer, also to boot, its nice looking, Canon did a fine job here and obviously was responsive to the needs of the buying public, if you need a printer, look this over, I have not been at all sorry about buying it, strongly reommend it.

Put a lot of time into researching photo printers before I picked up this Canon i470d from BestBuy. Brought it home and was immediately impressed. Fast, quiet, excellent quality photo printing. Easy to setup and easy-to-use software comes with. Great options....can print from media card or directly from Canon camera. Very happy with my purchase and I highly recommend it. Just don't forget to buy the USB cord that is NOT included. For your info, I just use this recreationaly to print out some 4x6's. Not doing any technically difficult photo editing or elaborate presentations.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Printer!, December 19, 2003
This review is from: Canon i470D Photo Printer (Office Product)
I've been looking for a while to replace my lagging Lexmark printer. I found a great deal on this Canon printer. I checked the reviews, which were mostly very favorable. I purchased it without hesitation. I'm glad I did.

It does not come with a USB cable, so expect to purchase one. It does come with a sample pack of 5 - 4x6 Canon picture paper, so you don't even need to purchase paper first to test it out. And it does come with a cartriage of color and black ink, both need to be installed. In addition, the cost of the ink is lower than many other printers, ranging about $10 a cartriage.

The software is very nice, so far. You open up their picture printer program. Select the photo(s) you want to print, then you choose from the paper types, from 4x6 to 8-1/2x11 and then how you want the photo(s) printed, ie with/without a border. Pretty much just a three step process.

The results? OY! The pictures are really fantastic. Now I must state that the quality of the print will be based more on the quality of the picture (jpeg/gif/bmp) you are printing. For example, I took a jpeg that I had from my website. In order to use it on my website, I needed to cut the resolution down. When I printed the that picture (4x6), there was a noticable grain to the photo quality. This is not in any way the fault of the printer. When I took a similar jpeg and printed it at its original resolution, the quality was as if I got the picture from a photo store. I decided to take a high resolution jped, about 12 MB, and print it 8-1/2x11. The quality was excellent. I won't say it was perfect. Upon close inspection, ie staring right in front of it, you'll notice slight indications that it was printed, however, I couldn't guarantee that you could go to a photo store and get a better quality image reproduction. However, from just casually looking at the picture, the quality is excellent.

The speed is pretty nice, about 1 4x6 in 40 seconds. Normal print outs are obviously faster, though I haven't done much with that. One other thing to bring, the paper feeder seems very reliable. My Lexmark needed to be manually feed, one sheet at a time, to print and that was such a hassle. However, this printer has a great feeder.

Overall, this product is excellent. Remember to get a USB cable to go along with it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Photo & All-Around Printer [for price], July 28, 2003
By
This review is from: Canon i470D Photo Printer (Office Product)
Good price. Cheapest overall cost of ownership because inkjets are cheaper than any HP or Epson and last a very long time (don't worry about it having 1 color cartridge vs. 3 or more separate color cartridges, it's still very cheap). Photo quality comparable to lab. Very good text on plain paper, even in draft mode, and better than Canon i850. Graphics (webpages and photoshop images) are better than i850. Get this over the Canon i850 UNless you're going to print more photos than text (the i850 is slightly better but only under intense scrutiny). Also, this printer can take different kinds of camera media (cf, sm) while the i850 can't. Had it for a month, no problems whatsoever. For the cost of photo quality paper & ink get this printer, otherwise go to a photolab to get your digital pictures printed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Printer that i ever got !!, September 14, 2003

This review is from: Canon i470D Photo Printer (Office Product)
I love this canon printer! My Lexmark printer was braken just because it was paper jammed, so I got this canon i470D. I need to tell everyone how wonderful this printer is! It makes a little noise sometimes when it's not printing like its processing something, but the noise is nothing compare to it's fast and beautiful print out. The best thing is that the cost of ink is a big saving!!! black ink is under $10 (i got it for $7) and color ink is around $15. I am so happy that i finally get rid of the Lexmark...its ink is more expansive than the printer! I also have to state that the canon technical support is super professional! If you have trouble installing the printer or any question, just call them and they will solve your problem right away. If you can't decide which printer to buy, this is the one! (and it saves you money in long term) just don't forget to get a 2.0 interface USB cable because it's NOT INCLUDED.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Nice!, September 5, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Canon i470D Photo Printer (Office Product)
Right out of the box, I fired up the printer and used the enclosed photo paper to print up some of the pictures I had taken with my old Kodak digital camera. The results were fast and impressive. I brought a couple of the pictures to work and showed them around. Everyone who saw the pictures couldn't tell they came from an inkjet printer until they really looked closely.

Black text prints crisply and quickly and ink consumption has been better than I expected, given that I'm working my way through a box of 100 4x6 photo papers.

The included software makes reviewing digital pictures simple and printing even simpler. I haven't played with the settings much, but look forward to improving upon my results. The card readers are a nice option as well and actually a deciding factor for me in buying this printer.

The printer itself is lightweight. The power supply is modular and screwed into the printer, but can be removed easily if it needs to be replaced.

Only gripe is that the first printer I picked up was DOA, but the store exchanged it without question. Canon's tech Support line encouraged me to return the printer rather than accept a refurb and didn't waste my time by walking me through a host of unnecessary diagnostics once I explained what I had already tried to revive the first printer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent buy !!!!!!!!!!!!!!, November 13, 2003

I bought this printer b/c I needed to do color prints and my HP wasn't doing justice.
I LOVE this printer. I got it with a rebate, but it is worth the $99.99 retail 100%.
My pictures are AWESOME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I show them to others and no one could tell I printed them myself. I am in awe of the printer. My sister and brother saw my picture quality and now they are BOTH buying one of these.
It was easy putting it together, and came with some good software too.
Very easy to use. You think it might be hard b/c of all the features, but it's very user-friendly.

The only thing that might annoy you is it does make a bit of noise while it's loading to print and when it's done. Because the outcome is fabulous, this doesn't bother me at all.

Note also, that I used the Canon glossy paper, then also with the HP photo glossy paper, the Canon paper had better results. Much cleaner than the HP.

I highly recommend this.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Canon i470D Photo Printer (Office Product)
Bought this printer @ Amazon.com on sale with free shipping. EASY installation & setup and the QUALITY of the photos is simply AMAZING. No one I showed them to could tell that my prints were not from a photo developing lab. Good documentation too. Just be sure to buy the USB cable which is not included. This is an AWESOME printer for VERY little money. HIGHLY recommend. I was a little doubtful as I have always used & like HP printers but this Canon is GREAT.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for Pictuers, January 12, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Canon i470D Photo Printer (Office Product)
This is an excellent Photo printer. The only thing is it prints at its best on Canon Paper. It has a build in memory card reader and you can even print directly from your Canon Camera without using a PC.

I printed about 50 4x6 pictures and I was amazed with the quality. They looked like regular pictures you could order from a photo lab. The price of the ink was quite low. Only 7.99 for the black cartridge and 18.00 for the color. You have to use canon paper to archive the best results I used HP Glossy Pluss and it was quite terrible.

For the price it's a great deal. It has a decent driver that has some auto settings that yield good enhancements. I suggest using the canon software to print instead of printing directly from Windows for some reason it gave me better results.

What I don't like is it makes odd sounds when its ideal and the ink cartridges seem smaller than a regular cartridge. I would recommend this printer to any amateur photographer who is looking to print better than decent pictures without burning a hole in your pocket.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome printer, April 28, 2005
This review is from: Canon i470D Photo Printer (Office Product)
I bought this printer to make photo pictures with my Kodak digital camera. I liked the idea that you could print pictures with it and not have to have it hooked up to a computer.

The photos that print off of this thing are awesome. You can't tell if it came from the photo shop or from my printer.

The cost to use this printer is 2 to 3 times cheaper than my Lexmark or Compaq printer. I finally got rid of those and just use my Canon printer.

It is quieter than my other two printers, too. Cheaper to run, quieter and great print quality. What more could you ask for??!!
