I purchased several of the predecessor model, the 4350d, for use in my office. Those machines have been rock solid, and when they began to get harder to find, I decided to go with the "newer" version. Sadly, "new" is NOT improved. The newer version cannot hold a candle to the prior version - it is flimsier, has a less intuitive interface, shoddy build quality, and requires a more expensive toner cartridge that is not compatible with the older models. Moreover, the "new" toner cartridge runs out of toner much sooner than the older ones - probably by design. After less than 2 months of very light use, the ADF (automatic document feeder) ceased to work. There is a reason this machine is so inexpensive - the 4350d was inexpensive and a great value - this one is just cheap. Canon should think twice about testing their customers' loyalty by putting out such a substandard product.

The Canon MF4450 is a good, fast, easy to set up multifunction. I would also consider the Canon MF4350d. I mentioned in my blog [...] that using the Canon 104 cartridge will probably be cheaper per page than the Canon 128 cartridge. As of July 2011 you can still get the Canon MF4350 at Amazon.Canon ImageCLASS MF4350d Laser All-in-One Printer

I love this printer...simple, fast copies, quiet. It really delivers. Must be careful when feeding docs so that they won't come out crooked...almost deducted a star for that...but this is an amazingly low price for the quality of this printer. It is changing my life in my small office workplace.

Excellant print copy compared to ink jet. Toner cartridge is somewhat expensive but probably will support print of roughly the same number of pages as the many ink tanks required to print the same amount of material with an ink jet printer.

This particular model only prints in black and white which is a problem for some users.

This is a multi-function machine. I have had only very limited use of the fax, copy and scan functions to date but all have performed well and were easy to set up.

I have had several laser printers over the past 15 or so years. Always bought HP brand. After getting burned with the last three HP printers (one issue or another occurring way too soon in the printer's life) I decided it was time to try another brand. I have had this Canon printer up and running three days now and am very pleased with my purchase. Now, I may change my review in 6 months or a year, but right now I feel my purchase was a very good decision. The quality of the print is sharp. The speed is quite acceptable. A slight tad noisy, but I have it on my desk right at ear level.

I got this machine 2days ago and I have printed more than 200pages now. It is the best printer I have ever used, while it is not the most expensive one. It is 150 dollar. Its printing speed is high, which is about 24 ppm(near 2 seconds per page.)I would recommend this one to my friend.

I own couple laser jets printer and have used them for quite a while now. I have 2 D4350 from Canon and they both have exceptional value in terms of speed of printing and ink consumption. I bought this D4450 for another office and assumed as an upgrade to 4350 this one must be better. Turns out it is good in a way and also bad. this printer works faster than its predecessor. printing speed is definitely better, quality about the same. Uses any kind of paper as long as it fits in paper slot. like regular 8.5 x 11 or shipping labels or glossy paper. works fine on everything.

Just 1 deficiency is that Canon forgot to put Duplex printing in newer models. D4350 prints in duplex mode while this one, even though technically this is upgrade, does not. this took down 1 star. But still printer is great value for price and a long lasting one too. ( I got d4350 running since 2 years now without hitch, lets see how long 4450 lasts)

As a USB printer, this Canon is fine. That is to say, it does what you'll need it to do, though its slightly jumbo size and overall ugliness kind of make your eyes hurt. And the fax set-up is just weird, but maybe if I'd spent more time on that it wouldn't have kept answering my phone unexpectedly.

But what disappointed me the most is how lousy the wireless Mac network experience is. My set-up is nothing bizarre: I have an AirPort Extreme Base station, and for years have plugged my (aging) Brother multi-function printer into it and printed with abandon. But after unsuccessfully trying to print over-the-air to this Canon, and then downloading the (gigantic) printer driver and the (almost as gigantic) scan driver, I discovered two things: Bonjour printing is "not supported" except using printer sharing, and scanning is "not supported" under any circumstances using WiFi. By the way, the only way to discover this is to contact Customer Support: the manual gives instructions for "Bonjour" printing, but apparently they're only referring to computer-to-computer printer sharing.)

I should have done a bit more research on this printer beforehand. In my defense, I was led astray by the fact that this is a modern printer and sports a little Mac icon on the Canon website, including listing "OS X Compatible" under Specifications. Don't make the same mistake I did: full compatibility only applies USB connections.
