Go with the 20. I owned both, and kept the 20. It takes super photos, and is much less shake-sensitive with max telephoto. The 30 advertises more MP, but the sensor's the same size, and crowding does NOT improve resolution. That's why full frame sensor unitrs cost $3K+.

I was just debating the SX20 vs SX30, so I was really glad to find this discussion. I assumed the 30 would be an improvement, but it sounds from this discussion and many customer reviews that 20 is a better choice for image quality.

Kay, sounds like you may have lost your original hood? If so, and it were me, I would order the 58mm filter lens adapter and the 58mm lens hood and tethered lens cap. That way you are not only replacing the hood but making possible to use standard lens filters in the camera. The hood that comes with the camera doesn't allow for this. The adapter has come down in price on Amazon. Then get a set of filters.
