whether or not if the lens you have fit a t3i, I would definitely recommend t3i in your case. T3i comes with articulate LCD that would be awesome for live-view video recording. It's not too much relevant unless you print out big poster or something, but 18MP is nice compared to D3100. D3100 is a great entry camera, but Canon seems surpass the video functions.

Thanks for the info K. Harper. I just purchased a Canon t1i and I love it! I have not used the video that much yet, but the pictures are beautiful. You just can't go wrong with a Canon!! And the other lens does fit, although it is not as strong as the one that came with the camera it does give me the choice of two lens. Now I just have to learn how to use all the functions on it!
