4.0 out of 5 stars Another solid Canon Printer
I use a printer mainly for text and web page printing and the MP180 does a fine job there. It makes very good copies and and does so much faster than my former multifunction, a Canon MP390 (it took forever to warm up). That said, one big downer are the print cartridges - just like those in an HP printer (in fact, I read somewhere that HP manufacturers these cartridges)...

2.0 out of 5 stars Having no ink makes this a big paperweight
I was happy with this printer/scanner combo until I found out that you can't use the scanner if you run out of ink. Also, you can't use recycled cartridges because of the "programming" on them.

Otherwise it's great.

I use a printer mainly for text and web page printing and the MP180 does a fine job there. It makes very good copies and and does so much faster than my former multifunction, a Canon MP390 (it took forever to warm up). That said, one big downer are the print cartridges - just like those in an HP printer (in fact, I read somewhere that HP manufacturers these cartridges). Canon states that these are part of the FINE system. When investigating printers I failed to fully research what FINE cartridges are, FINE being an acronym that I don't remember what it represents (something about the ink and printing process and that it will last for a hundred years when used to print photos). Shame on me for not doing so - I assumed this printer used Canon's ink tank system/separate print head that uses fairly inexpensive ink tanks. That feature has ALWAYS been a major attraction for me and is why my last couple printers were from Canon.

So, if you want a good, inexpensive photo multifunction printer consider the MP180 - but be forewarned about the print cartridges.

4.0 out of 5 stars I like this little all-n-one.., January 25, 2007
This review is from: Canon-usa MP180 Pixma MP180 Photo All-in-one Print (Office Product)
The reviews I read are about right. The scanning is not as good as it could be. And the print jobs are good. I like how well it works when you need it. Unlike the HP's I have owned and became nightmares, Not to mention the hours of editing the reg once you throw the HP out the window (true story)I would buy this printer again if needed (god forbid) to. I have never loved an all-n-one before I bought the mp180. It just works all the time without hassles or software problems.. Try it you'll like it..

I bought this printer based on the good reviews that I read. The printer does what I want, very good photo quality even on regular paper. It also scans well and was very easy to set up. The printer's card reader acts like a regular card reader and allows you to download to the computer and is not dedicated to the printer. My only complaints are that in order to scan at 1200 dpi you have to use the scanner driver ( none of the software included lets you scan above 600 dpi). The included software has no options for scanning and faxing a document using a modem either; I use winfax so that does not bother me. You cannot have the printer use just the black cartage even in grayscale it uses color ink.

For the price though (I paid $104 on Amazon with free shipping) you can't beat the photo quality. If you are looking for a good all in one and don't need a fax machine built in look at this printer.

5.0 out of 5 stars I LOVE MY NEW PRINTER, April 10, 2007
This review is from: Canon-usa MP180 Pixma MP180 Photo All-in-one Print (Office Product)
This printer is wonderful..it prints, copies, scans with no problem. The print quality is very good. It is quick as a bunny. The cost of $95 was very reasonable. The only minor minus ..It sounds like R2D2 as it readies itself. I highly recommend this printer.

I chose because it had a high rating in Consumer Reports. A little noisy but the quality of print good and fast enough. Worth the money so far.

I've used this machine mostly for scanning items and printing, but the copier works great as well. There are many features that I'm not hip enough to use, but this machine is great! I plugged it into my macbook (sometimes things don't go this well with a mac) and I was off and running.

5.0 out of 5 stars nice printer, December 29, 2010

I have had this printer for about 3 years now. This has been, by far, the best printer I have owned. It's quick, gives accurate reproductions and has plenty of functions. The only downside, if you can call it that, is that it does seem to fly through ink in color mode. In all fairness, I haven't heard of a printer that doesn't. I have had other brands that are way inferior to this unit. I won't mention brands because I do not think that is a fair assessment, I may have received bad units or I may have made the mistake of buying a unit that I thought would perform up to what I expected. The price was very competitive with the quality, although price was not the determining factor, quality was. To me, this is a quality unit. As far as price, I take 3-4 weeks to buy a product. Patience is a virtue. I hate shopping in a store, but I love on line lol. Be patient and get what you want at what you want it for, no exceptions. Look for honesty and a fair deal and you can feel confident you made a good deal if it's a good product. And remember the old saying "If it's to good to be true"

From the minute I took it out of the box it didn't work right. Printing only half pages. Error codes after scanning. Cannon online support was very responsive but ended up blaming my computer for the problems. Funny since there's nothing wrong with my computer or any other software I use. Their software is buggy and they need to fix it.
