This is an excellent technical account of the loop quantum gravity program and the current state of progress in reaching the program's goals.
However, as Theimann suggests, those starting to study the subject would be well advised to begin with Carlo Rovelli's book.

I think that this book provides a consistent and rigorous approach to the rather old subject of canonically quantizing general relativity.
