Canson makes the best paper. This mixed media paper is fantastic for both wet and dry media. The spiral binding helps the book lay flat. There is a perforated line for easy removal. It is perfect paper for the purposes of doing intricate calligraphic lettering and the accompanying detailed painting. The paper has a bit of a tooth to it, so it is thirsty and will soak up some types of pens. It is not a smooth like card stock or computer paper. My use for this book is for an art journal of Zentangle designs. Sharpie markers do show through on the other side, and if you saturate the paper it will buckle.

This definitely fulfills average day-to-day needs in a sketchbook.

The paper is relatively heavy weight and can take NON-alcohol based markers (such as Faber-Castell Pitt Artist Markers) well, but you'll have no luck here with any alcohol-based markers, such as Prismacolors. If you need something for that purpose then I would suggest Copic Markers Alcohol Marker Pad, A4, 50 Sheets.

Aside from the markers, it can definitely take a little bit of abuse from wet media. The pages easily take light to moderate applications of watercolor without warping too badly. The tooth of the paper is rough enough for mediums like colored pencils but not to toothy to where it's hard to work on with something such as a Micron or Copic fineliner.

The spiral binding is a plus because you can completely fold the previous pages back without having to worry about them falling out like they (annoyingly) do in sketchbooks with adhesive binding. However, the sheets have perforated edges making super-easy removal still possible.

This product serves its purpose and gets 4 stars.

Great For:
Calligraphy - Ink Media:
-Very crisp lines, rarely any bleeding
Color Pencils/Pastels/Drawing Media:
-Smooth surface with light texturing, really puts the color where you want them

Only So-So For:
-Markers:
It really depends on the type of markers you use. I would say for artist markers it's great but if your doing sharpie work it tends to bleed slightly at times so your lines aren't completely crisp and have to go over them a couple of times.
Acrylic:
-Surprisingly its a nice surface for acrylic though but some curling may occur do to the water.

Do Not Buy If:
-You are using water:
Initially I bought this so I could use it with watercolor techniques. My gosh it buckles so much even when it's been stretched you'll still get curling and creasing. If you don't mind having warped water-based artwork then by all means go for it- otherwise try something else more sturdier.

I use these wonderful books for my art journaling and have found that they hold up well to almost anything I throw at them, from acrylic paints, to watercolors, to sprays and mists and everything in between! The paper is a terrific weight, with just enough tooth to hold your paint without being rough or bumpy. They are very reasonable priced and a good size for working at home or on the go. I cannot recommend this journal highly enough!

This Canson's presentation is really fantastic, the paper has a good quality, the size is great and there are 60 sheets, which for me is really a plus.

I have found other presentations from different trademarks but I haven't liked them as much as this. I am loving this paper pad.

Maybe my opinion is a little restricted since I am a amateur in this affairs, but this a non expensive pad with excellent paper for almost any purpose (I am using it for watercolor) so for me is really good.

I'm obsessed with this product. It's big, the pages are sturdy, and it's pretty. It has really heavy duty paper which was exactly what I was after.

I purchased this sketch pad because it is made by the same company that makes Zentangle (tm) tiles, and is similar to the paper the tiles are made from. (Google Zentangle if this is gibberish!) I wanted to use it to practice the intricate patterns, but the "practice" pieces are coming out so nicely they are practically art themselves. I'm using Sakura pens, and this paper seems made for them. The front and back covers are very, very sturdy (among the nicest sketchbooks I've ever used), and the wire binding is loose enough to allow the pages to turn easily but not slide around while you're working. If you want a sketchbook that can be used as a basis to create art, this is the one.

I got this sketchpad for calligraphy. It is perfect for that because it soaks the ink up yet it still looks great after you have finished your project. It is also perfect for making small posters, cards, or anything else you can imagine. All in all it is lovely paper-not too rough and not too smooth. Like other reviewers said, just make sure you don't saturate it or it does buckle. Other than that I'm totally satisfied with this product. Don't stop making these sketchbooks, Canson! :)
