4.0 out of 5 stars guilty pleasure
A little of a Guilty Pleasure for sure. I am so out of MILEY's demographic for sure. I am not "in love" with every song on the CD but I work in the middle of the night and most of this CD keeps me moving. I can see a few of these songs on a workout playlist. Not a grammy winning CD but fun non the less

3.0 out of 5 stars Miley's Growing Up
This CD is not for the Hannah Montana crowd, it's got a rough edge and is clearly a wish on her part to bring an end to her link with the blond wig. That said, she might just have a career in the more adult music world if she can distance herself far enough from Hannah, but her core fan base is associated with the character and she probably should have done one more CD...

This CD is not for the Hannah Montana crowd, it's got a rough edge and is clearly a wish on her part to bring an end to her link with the blond wig. That said, she might just have a career in the more adult music world if she can distance herself far enough from Hannah, but her core fan base is associated with the character and she probably should have done one more CD like her previous one that got her younger fans use to newer music. Actually looking at the talent in her age group she's probably one of the more talented, and this CD is fine for the young adult fan.

4.0 out of 5 stars She can't be 12 years old forever..., June 27, 2010

Well, she is growing up (and has been for the last few years). Disney really ought to stop milking the Hannah Montana franchise and let her move on to being just Miley. Let her make an episode where she goes off to college and end the series. There are always new kids to make famous and to be role models for little girls and little boys aged 6 to 14, but Miley is beyond that now. Her last two albums and this one prove that. While much of it is over produced "dance music" along the lines of Christina Aquilera and countless other female pop singers, Miley still has an instantly recognizable voice. I'm older than most fans I'm sure and only listen to her music because the kids of some of the girls I date do, and it is a guilty pleasure to listen and turn up a few tracks in the car and remember what it was like to be 18.

Hopefully if she spends a few years away from pop music soon after touring to support this album, she can reinvent herself. It will be interesting to see what she comes back as. Perhaps she will get into acting in a more serious way. Or perhaps come back as more of a less "dance music" oriented singer (not that there is anything wrong with that, as it is a music niche to be filled), but she obviously has the pipes to get around a song - any song - and do it justice.

Good luck to her and I hope she doesn't go off the deep in as the hormones kick in, and that she doesn't become another Britney Spears or Paris Hilton, known more for being slutty and famous than for doing anything of real note.

5.0 out of 5 stars She can't be tamed, can't be tamed, can't be blamed, she can't-can't be tamed..., June 23, 2010
This review is from: Can't Be Tamed (Audio CD)
I've been a Miley fan since the beginning and I loved her last 2 albums, so I HAD to get this the moment it came out yesterday at K Mart.

Anyway, most of the songs are about self-confidence and breaking free (Robot, Liberty Walk) and of course we have to have romance songs, right? ;) From break-up songs (Two More Lonely People, Every Rose Has Its Thorn, Scars) to in love songs (Forgiveness And Love, My Heart Beats For Love) this album doesn't disappoint.

Whether you like Miley or not, this album is still a great choice for pop lovers. Once you start on Liberty Walk, each song will keep you going up to the end of My Heart Beats For Love.

This is NOT the album for those who are there for G-rated, clean Miley. She says the H word in Can't Be Tamed and s**y in Permanent December but she still doesn't get as "bad" as Talk Is Cheap in the previous CD. However, none of these things affect the amazing-ness of the album. She will be 18 in November after all, so like the title says, we can't tame her. ;)

While Miley has said her "break" from music is only going to last 1-2 years, this is a FANTASTIC conclusion to Miley's Hollywood Records contract. :) All pop-lovers should own this CD. :D

P.S. If you found this or any of my reviews unhelpful, please tell me why in the comments so I can improve it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disaster On The Loose, September 16, 2010
This review is from: Can't Be Tamed (Audio CD)
The new Miley Cyrus song"Cant be Tamed" is absolutely repulsive. The lyrics make Miley seem she believes she's the hottest person on the face on this earth. She is not and she is far from it. The lyrics "I go through guys like money flyin' out their hands" is not appropriate for the age of the majority of her fans. It also makes her seem like a trashy slut. The song shows that miley is a stuck up, spoiled, and immature girl. This is shown in the lyrics "Have to get my way, 24 hours a day 'Cause I'm hot like that". What she really needs to do is let all of the air out of her giant head and come back down to reality. The whole song is a cliche about how not one single guy can change her. Yeah, yeah, we get it. You're a crazy brat that "can't be tamed". This just makes you seem like an animal because humans shouldn't have to be tamed. This girl needs to go get talent, learn to sing, and write decent lyrics that don't make my ears bleed.

1.0 out of 5 stars Best Consigned to the Trash Can, July 2, 2010

Even giving this one star is being too generous. I had the full catalogue of Miley/Hannah CDs until I got this one, played it once, then LITERALLY threw it in the trash. I love all the rest of her stuff from the first Hannah CD up through the movie soundtrack and "Party in the USA." It was all fantastic. Great songs, performed well. What more could you ask for?

So, what's the problem with "Can't Be Tamed"? The problem is all these under 30 year old female artists vying with each other to SOUND THE SAME. The world does not need another thump-thump-thump Euro-trash song -- much less a full CD of such -- which is what Miley has delivered with "Can't Be Tamed." Her best option would have been to do a TRUE rock album. Something NOT over-produced with all the studio tricks used to the max, but something that sounded REAL and from the heart. Music that will sound good 20 years from now. Her second best option would have been to do the predictable (given her genetics) and cut a country album. But, that would've been a bit risky as country has rarely gone over well with her core demographic, under 20 year old girls.

So, what she's done is made an album that aims to play it safe from a sales point of view. Make a CD that sounds like every other CD out there today. Pack it with mindless dance tunes because that's what the kiddies go for. The end result may be awesome sales at the expense of a shorter career -- and one known for diminished artistic integrity after such a promising start.

In the 80s, a young star named Debbie Gibson burst out of the gate with 2 hugely successful albums that featured some tasty and clever pop-rock. With her third album, "Anything Is Possible", she went the R&B dance music route and committed artistic suicide in the process. She never had another hit. Miley would do well to learn by the Debbie Gibson example.

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable Album, December 25, 2010

I bought this album for myself and not for a daughter, so I'm looking at it from a different perspective than many of the other reviewers here. I don't know if I would buy it for a child, it might be a little mature for that. Miley is moving on to more adult things, which is fine. We all grow up eventually, right?

The album is good, has an upbeat attitude to it that I really enjoy. My favorite on the album is "Every Rose Has its Thorn". Having never heard the original before, I haven't got anything to compare it to and therefore criticize it because it is different. My only complaint about the album is one or two of the songs start out with a really great beat and I feel like it's going to be a great song, but then the lyrics turn a bit lame and it ruins the song for me...such is the case with "Who Own's My Heart". That song had so much potential until the lyrics ended it all. Mostly, though, this is one of my favorite albums, I wasn't disappointed in it at all.

4.0 out of 5 stars Review of Can't Be Tamed, July 25, 2010
This review is from: Can't Be Tamed (Audio CD)
Disney has always made its market by showing young, attractive girls and boys in funky, but not too sexy, clothes. Miley has always been an attractive young girl. The only difference between her previous image and this new one is that her sexual attractiveness is being acknowledged.

There's nothing particularly revealing about the clothes she wears on her album cover. Here, she's showing her bare stomach (I see more flesh in my gym class than this, and from girls about the same age), and on her previous album cover she's showing bare legs. The only difference is that the lighting on the cover of the new CD, coupled with her suggestive dance moves, acknowledge that she knows she's attractive in a sexual way. So what.

The music's on this album's not sexy in the slightest -it's still aimed at a very young female audience- so it's simply too cute to find it's way onto my player, but that doesn't mean it's bad. For it's target audience, it's a good, modern CD.

People seem to become disturbed when it's acknowledged that teens (particularly female) are sexy. But youth is sexy, and trying to force them to pretend they're not aware of that yet is just plain silly.

The main anger towards Miley seems to be coming from middle-aged female mothers, and their daughters who repeat whatever their mothers say, but this, in itself, says heaps.

4.0 out of 5 stars Track-by-Track Review, January 28, 2012

**Originally posted on "#1 Hits From Another Planet" - 6/25/10**

Ah, teen pop. I approach these albums with lowered expectations but am often happy when they offer more than I expected. Miley Cyrus has been quite consistent this way, no matter the genre. The music is always better than it has to be, and you get the sense (whether right or wrong) that she's actually got some say in what she performs. In other words, it's convincing. It probably doesn't hurt that she's getting the best writers and producers. Still, Can't Be Tamed is a solid pop album, another to add to her solid pop career.

1. Liberty Walk - Ushers in her new phase of Gaga-esque dance pop with a chanty verse, big chorus and some great processed drums. I'm not sure if it's the perfect album opener, but as a declaration of intent it's pretty damn good. 9/10

2. Who Owns My Heart - Delving even further into dance/club sounds, this is another strong, melody-driven song written about the pitfalls of fame. The chorus is as instant as it gets, but the pulsing beat stays with you. 9/10

3. Can't Be Tamed - It seems to have split listeners' opinions down the middle, but I still think it's a flawless 2010 pop single. Sure, it follows trends, but it's tight, performed well and has a great middle eight. 10/10

4. Every Rose Has Its Thorn - As with her Cyndi Lauper cover a few years ago, this shouldn't work. But it turns out that Cyrus's raspy vocals fit the song perfectly. The production cheapens a bit after the first chorus, but it's still a strong version of the song. 9/10

5. Two More Lonely People - Combines a galloping beat with a sugary pop melody to stunning effect. The surging middle eight is all too fleeting. It's exactly the kind of song I'd like to see more of in the U.S. 10/10

6. Forgiveness And Love - A slow, Beatle-esque ballad. It's an odd choice for Cyrus (almost too grown-up?), but the melody's nice. Never really gets beyond "nice," but that's okay. 7/10

7. Permanent December - My favorite song on the album, an anthemic club track that's got more vocoder on it than an army of Katy Perrys. But it doesn't matter when the chorus is so good. In fact, in this case the stupid lyrics don't even matter. Get this on the radio! 10/10

8. Stay - The strongest ballad on the album, it's a gentle, piano-led track that's similar in sound to Cyrus' own Goodbye. 9/10

9. Scars - A rockier, uptempo track, though it gets a little lost in the shuffle for me. It's adequately sung and produced, but not very original. 7/10

10. Take Me Along - Got a little bit of Coldplay grandeur to it, with an extended piano intro and some anthem-in-waiting choruses. Unfortunately, it doesn't quite gel. Feels too serious without a serious melody to support it. 7/10

11. Robot - A big, aggressive rocker with a vitriolic chorus sung by what sounds like a hundred Mileys. Usually these "angry about fame" tracks fall short, but the sound here is so massive that it works. It's all about that high note in the chorus, though. 9/10

12. My Heart Beats For Love - A hymnal closing ballad with the trademark Tedder-drums (though I don't think he produced this). The melody's quite good, if a bit repetitive. 8/10

Album Grade: 8.7/10
