When life brings you an interest in dating, it helps to have some perspective. Katz was a dating consultant for leading dating sites, so he's got a decent picture of what works and what doesn't.

Perennial interest in the subject of dating results in tons of articles on line to address these topics. Those will hold your need for distraction. But when you get to the point where you need to write a profile for one of these sites, this book shines. It gathers most of the advice in one place, and offers solid examples of good to great writing.

Many of us find that facts and reality limit our ability to perpetrate great writing on a tough audience. Katz also discusses the practical reality of a mismatch between who we are and who we wish to be. This, of course, is the eternal problem of dating in a nutshell. That keeps this well written guide timely in a online world that changes day to day.

If you have a use for this book, don't be shy about picking up a copy.

It is somewhat dated now, with newer dating sites, but it gives excellent examples of how to write a personal profile that conveys more than loves-dogs-and-sunsets. Very practical and clear. I can't wait for the updated version to help understand the newer dating sites.

I disagree with the negative comments some others wrote about this book. Judging from what I see on the dating sites, a lot of people are going about this wrong. So, it is not outdated nor is it simple common sense that every one already knows. Instead it has relevant and useful tips on making your profile stand out. Your communications will be more effective and your online dating experience will be better overall. Lastly, he writes about all this with a great sense of humor.

Katz is a consultant for online daters, so this book is a come-on that probably gets him additional consulting business. This is a short, readable guide for people new to online dating. It is particularly good in comparing the features of the leading online dating services and in consistently advocating for honesty in what you say in profiles. Less helpful is a chapter of five profiles he has helped write which is supposed to show you how to do a better profile but actually ends up encouraging you to seek Katz's consulting help. The book has much helpful information, but for a better introduction to online dating for beginners I would recommend Online Dating for Dummies.

I read this and found it was one of the few books out there that give some useful information on this topic. Nice job!
