5.0 out of 5 stars AWESOME!
This album has it all! Great song writing, melody, agression, and real chorus parts you can remember and sing back. Influeces are evident. I here Deftones, and Sevendust in the soulful vocals. New metal is in the mix also via Limp Bizcut, and Korn. Yet Boiler Room has an originality in putting their own spin on this style. Chris Lino has the strongest voice I have...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad compared to similar artists
I'm not a big fan of the hip-hop influence that's become so common in metal today. Most of the bands are too over the top or focus too much on the hip-hop side for my taste. Boiler Room has its roots in New York hardcore, so they approach the style a little differently. The lyrics are darker and they play heavy, not just loud. It's kind of like Machine Head's...

New metal is in the mix also via Limp Bizcut, and Korn. Yet Boiler Room has an originality in putting their own spin on this style. Chris Lino has the strongest voice I have heard in years. Boiler Room caught my ear instantly when I heard their single (Do it Again) on MTVs first Return Of The Rock CD. I saw them live in N.Y.C. at a K-Rock low dough show when they opened for Orgy, and they blew me away. ...

5.0 out of 5 stars These guys deserve whatever great reviews they get!, November 14, 2000

If you are looking for a Hot new band to get into with catchy hooks, sharp, crunchy riffs, slick drum beats, and a vocalist with a cool, raspy sound who sings lyrics that anybody can relate to, then these guys are the perfect choice. I can't find a song on this album that I can't get into. Songs like Insomnia, Patience, Hopeless, and the title song, Can't Breathe are some perfect examples of what I'm talkin about. Let the reviews of praise roll, because Boiler Room is fit to deserve all of 'em, Word is born!

Man, I'm glad I grew up on the east coast. Being out in LA, I would have never heard of Boiler Room. When I first heard them, it was on a college station. They were a local band called who used to be called Bible Black (I've always known them as Boiler Room). I actually have the album they released independently before this one (which by the way has that song "Low Society" that another reviewer had mentioned, and no I would never even think of selling it) and back then they had a darker, heavier sound.
The big problem I had with this album was my first impression. When I first started listening, it sounded like they had abandoned their doomy, down-tuned sound for a newer, more "accessible" sound. It sounded like any other band that's played on the new rock stations. Then, I got through some more of the album and realized that they're trying to pioneer the genre, instead of blending in with it. "Insomnia" is hands down my favorite track, with such a powerful yet simple riff, along with a strong vocal melody and a superb overall feel to the song. "Superficial" is also a strong track and "Patience" is another standout but honestly I can't say anything bad about any of the songs on this cd. It's just sad that the record companies gave up on them so easily and they had to call it quits.

This CD has made me crazy, not literally. This band has very simple lyrics, but they mean so much if you actually take the time to listen to them. I have seen this band 4 times live in concert and they are awesome, so please give them the support that they deserve.

4.0 out of 5 stars Solid Debut, September 4, 2003

As far as the music goes, there isn't anything to complain about. Like some other reviewers noted, their sound isn't exactly the most original, but the talent the band exudes raises the bar for the genre they are in. And original or not, you just can't help but enjoy it. There is definitely some love and enthusiasm put into the songs, and it shows in the way these guys play.

Some highlights are the radio hit "Do It Again" and, my personal favorite on the album, the title track "Can't Breathe".

I really wish I could give this album 3.5 stars instead only because there isn't a lot of lyrical depth. We've all read bad poetry, and there are some lines that make you cringe when you hear them - a few of the rapped lines on "Can I Live?" for instance. And again, it is a great CD, but nothing terribly groundbreaking. It's too bad they broke up, since I think further CDs would have revealed some amazing stuff as they matured musically.

All in all, a very solid debut. If you're in the mood for some new music you can rock out to and you can't figure out what to get, I'd definitely recommend giving these guys a try.

Okay, this album kicks major .... It is great from track 1 to track 12. Now, as my title thing says, only one bad thing. They are no longer a band as of early December. :(

This album rocks! Any fan of hard rock should check this out! They have a single hitting stations all over the nation called "Do It Again" which is track one.

There isn't a dull track on this album...my favorites are Do It Again, Patience, Can I Live, and Hopeless.

These guys are from New York City, look for them on the road!

Check out Can't Breathe!

It's kind of like Machine Head's "The Burning Red". The singer has an awesome voice when he's not screaming or whispering. So, for a debut album, they did pretty good. They could use a little more variety in tempo and songwriting. And where the heck is "Low Society"? That song freaking rocks! It's an old Boiler Room song that didn't make it on the album.

3.0 out of 5 stars A "So-So" Debut from this New York Band, January 3, 2001

This album was originally due on Roadrunner (which i have), and since the band was dropped, the band signed to a new label.

The cd starts off quite well with the energetic track "Do it Again" but after the 5th track, starts to go up and down, with no constant energy. It seems as if the first 5 tracks are good, but the remaining tracks seem to lack effort. The vocals are great, i love the variety in style. Guitars use a variety of styles and riffs to create diversity, which is done quite uniquely. Drumming is ok, and at times the bass is non-existant. It is a good cd, but i recommend you to listen to it before buying. Great for fans of the new hard rock bands such as Liquid Gang, and Full Devil Jacket.
