For children who love the game of chase, here's a familiar adventure that ends in a reassuring hug.

Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

PreSchool-Grade 1AA breezy, bold, and energetic book. A simple text describes a game of chase: a dog follows a cat, a bug pursues a bee, two squirrels run around a tree, and a round-faced child calls out, "And someone's chasing me!" In the end, the animals are all caught by their pursuers, and a mother appears on the final page to catch the youngster in a loving embrace. Litzinger's cheerful paintings carry the book. Strong colors fill the pages and lots of movement reinforces the action. Many elements of the illustrations embellish, yet echo, the spare story, including the simple humor in the hiding and chasing scenes (the bee bottom-up inside a rose). Simple shapes such as triangles, circles, and oblongs mold the characters and landscape (bulgy eyes; a round hat; and triangles for faces, paws, and ears). The repetitive text and basic vocabulary could be managed by early independent readers or read aloud to toddlers. Fanciful and lively.AJacqueline Elsner, Athens Regional Library, GA

From Kirkus Reviews

This entry in the Harper Growing Tree series has a text modeled on ``There was a little turtle,'' and several other hand rhymes. It's a lap-sized alternative to board books and features three animals and a child gleefully being chased, hiding from their pursuers, and then being caught upin the child's casefor a parental hug. A brief line or two of text undulates across each simple painting of happy, bounding figures, all eyes and smiles; the sturdy paper stock will survive rough handling during the repeated reading most children will demand. You can almost hear the giggles. (Picture book. 2-3) -- Copyright ©1998, Kirkus Associates, LP. All rights reserved.

My 2 1/2 year old daughter loves the predictability of this book. The illustrations are so colorful and delightful. She claps at the end when the boy's mother catches him. Lots of fun!
