Ohmygosh! Reading the insert, I learned that Sista Monica was absent for two years battling and beating a difficult cancer. Sista Monica wrote amazingly inspirational songs about her story in this album, many autobiographical. Can't Keep a Good Woman Down, Cookin' with Grease, It's Good to be Alive!, Surrender to Love. Amazing and hot music! I found myself dancing wildly in my livingroom, by myself, and then bought all her other albums (this was my first). The insert also told me she is donating 10% of the sales to healingjourneys.org, whose trademark is "Cancer as a turning point, from surviving to thriving!" Maybe the Powers that Be healed this woman so she can continue to inspire people for a long time to come! I have since read about her winning audiences over immediately, as she has sung all over the world. Treat yourself to this one. And you'll help people in real need too. Wow.

I bought this on a recommendation a few months ago. Time passed, and I'm sorry to say I just let it sit. This past weekend, I saw it in a stack and I idly put it in my CD player, figuring it would be one of those CDs I put away and rarely listen to again, if ever. Holy Smokes! I was floored by the very first song (Can't Keep a Good Woman Down!), and by the time it was over, my wife came downstairs, asking "who IS that?".

The power of Monica Parker's voice combined with the beautiful quality and absolute precision and voice control is just overwhelming.

Terrific music. You'll be enthralled..and you'll listen to this over and over. Buy this CD!

I heard Sista Monica at a conference for chronically and terminally ill people. She was able through her testimony and through her music to energize and encourage all present, whether patient or caregiver. This cd has several original compositions. She is an accomplished jazz artist/composer with a genuine talent. Brings real soul to all of her work. Even if you are not a jazz conossieur you can't deny the faith she sings of and the joy in life and living that her experiences have allowed her to convey through her performances. If you ever see her perform and catch her heart you will never forget her. Not my usual taste in music, but I like the musician!
