Another Tanya masterpiece,
By
This review is from: Can't Run From Yourself (Audio CD)
This was one of Tanya's biggest selling albums, containing three country top ten hits. The standout song is Two sparrows in a hurricane, which has become one of Tanya's signature songs. Tell me about it is a brilliant duet with Delbert McClinton. The opening track, It's a little too late, is an excellent foot-stomping song that was successfully revived by Mark Chesnutt only four years later. Besides those three hits, the album has plenty of other great songs. Can't run from yourself is a great song that was surely considered for single release. Rainbow rider is a song with a western theme, not to be confused with a similarly titled song, also with a western theme, that Sylvia recorded on her Drifter album a decade earlier. Danger ahead is a great bluesy song to close the album. The other songs - Don't let me be the last to know, I've learned to live, What do they know and Half the moon - show Tanya singing tender ballads in her own distinctive style. This is one of many brilliant albums that Tanya recorded and is an essential album for all Tanya fans, with much to interest the casual buyer too.

This is Tanya's best album. Very strong song selection means there is something for everyone. And, unbelievably, you can get it here at the moment for a cent.
The reason why this album is so good is that her trademark steel and gravel voice is tempered by unusual sensitivity and gentleness (eg Two Sparrows In A Hurricane). "Can't Run From Yourself" is a bluesy classic, with stunning guitar work. Delbert McClinton's duet vocal on "Tell Me About It" is a musical marriage made in heaven. And she completely nails the beautiful "Half The Moon". Fantastic singing, great arrangements and musicianship, and no second-rate songs - what more could you want? I'm not too keen on some of her albums, but this is a no-brainer.

Tanya Is The Best.,

I Have Been A Tanya Fan Since I Was A Kid. She Has A Great Voice. My Mom And I Like The Balled "Two Sparrows In A Hurricane". It Is A Very Sad Song. The Dance Tune "It's A Little Too Late" Can Make You Get Up And Tap Your Toes On The Dance Floor. Mark Chesnutt Did Another Version Of The Same Words In 1996. The Duet With Delbert McClinton "Tell Me About It" Is Also A Dance Song. This CD Is Great For Any Tanya Fan.

This is a mature and sassy CD with plenty of top tunes!
Most of the songs are ballads, but the lyrics are strong and it will defnitely become a favourite! 1. Saucy midtempo/up-beat track about love gone south. Attitude track! 5/5 2. Haunting mid-tempo song. Gets boring after a while. 2/5 3. Beautiful and strong ballad. I'm not a fan of ballads, but this one is great. Listen. 5/5 4. The title gives the song away. Mid-tempo with some highlights. 3/5 5. Sassy and up-beat song to get you going! 5/5 6. Another beautiful need-to-listen-to-ballad 5/5 7. My favourite Tanya song of all times! It is heartbreaking and so strong! 10/5 8. Mid-tempo song. Doesn't stand out. 3/5 9. Another ballad. Good highlights bring the song up. 3/5 10. Mid/up-tempo. Very sassy and with plenty of attitude. 5/5 |
