In the final book of her Prescott series, Can't Say No, Bette Ford tells the story of Vanessa Grant and Ralph Prescott. Ralph is an ex-basketball star and every woman's dream. Thank you Bette Ford!! You did not disappointed me. This last installment is perfect. Vanessa and Ralph were perfect. Vanessa knew Ralph as the player and Ralph saw Vanessa as in innocent. They did know each other well and that is why they did not want to be in a relationship with each other. I truly understand why Vanessa did not trust Ralph when he started to really care for her. His family, reputation, and his own words testified to the fact. You could only admire Vanessa for protecting her heart and her family's heart. The story of the twins father really helped with the story. Again, it was perfect.

I believe this story was well written and was a true continuation of the series. Ms. Ford incorperates the other two books perfectly by mentioning very important scenes from the past to bring you up to day. THIS WILL DEFINITELY BE ONE OF MY REREADS! I am truly looking forward to Ms. Ford's next book.

4.0 out of 5 stars 'A dream, a simple fantasy...', October 18, 2008
This review is from: Can't Say No (Mass Market Paperback)
Vanessa Grant secretly fantasizes about sexy ex-NBA Ralph Prescott and the forbidden things he would do to her every night. When dawn breaks, she's back to reality and her life consists of work and raising her three siblings that she's had since the unexpected death of their mom. While helping with her best friend, Brynne's dream wedding, she's constantly tormented with Ralph's presence and her ache for him to stoke this fire that slowly burns for his touch.

Ralph Prescott is successful and has a flock of women that only want what he can financially provide for them. For some strange reason he's been noticing shy Vanessa and has this urge to protect her from a friend that wants her in his bed.

Ms. Ford has penned a sensuous yet saucy read that will have you enamored with all the characters. This book is filled with drama, laughter, love, scandal, and sexy scenes that will make you blush! Amazing read!

5.0 out of 5 stars fine Prescott sports romance, August 31, 2008
This review is from: Can't Say No (Mass Market Paperback)
In Detroit former NBA star Ralph Prescott enjoys being a highly desired "all pro" player when it comes to slam bam scoring with women. Although used to females making shocking proposals, he is stunned when the queen of responsible behavior good girl Vanessa Grant offers him the proposition of being his lover; she pledges to herself he will not break her heart. He accepts.

However, his behavior is far from the roguish cad she expected whose only asset is in bed. Instead, he is there for her and her family during a crisis caused by a rat who once dated her late mother. To her chagrin she falls in love with the kind hunk, but refuses to believe he reciprocates. He knows the clock is running out on his chances of proving to his beloved they belong together.

The third Motor City Prescott sports romance (see UNFORGETTABLE and AN EVERLASTING LOVE) stars two strong protagonists who in spite of their deep sexual attraction initially believe they have nothing else between them; especially wanting no part of Prescott is Vanessa while he wants no overtime. The story line is fast-paced and deep actually because of her family troubles caused by a clever villain. Fans will say yes to Bette Ford's engaging drama that effortlessly switches from the bedroom to the courtroom as Ralph proves to be much more than a womanizing former pro athlete. Now if Ms. Ford can use an even more shocking athlete in her next Prescott family saga.

In the final book of her Prescott series, Can't Say No, Bette Ford tells the story of Vanessa Grant and Ralph Prescott. Ralph is an ex-basketball star and every woman's dream. He does not think there is a woman worthy enough to settle down with. Vanessa is young, single, and very family-oriented. At the age of 20, Vanessa was granted guardianship of her twin brother and sister and teen-aged sister. Putting her dreams on hold, Vanessa did not have time for romance. She witnessed what love had done to her mother and she was determined not to make the same mistakes. Yet, there was something about Ralph that drew him to her and she decided to proposition him. Little did they know that her decision would affect them in ways that they could not explain.

Ford's novel was very similar to the other books in this series. The characters were fun and loving and each page made you turn the page to see what would happen next. There were a few sections that moved slowly but the final results were enjoyable. Fans of Ford will enjoy reading this novel.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Story, October 17, 2008
This review is from: Can't Say No (Mass Market Paperback)
Ms. Ford writes a good story - Vanessa & Ralph make a good couple and the extr characters in the story are all sweet. Ralph has changed and Vanessa is stuck inthe past. Why doesn't Vanessa have a strong self esteem while raising her three younger siblings is not realistic to me. It just seems like Vanessa's friends are more mature and more aware than Vanessa is. Being in the role of leader like Vanessa was thrown into - she should be more wise.

Sexually, Vanessa is of course a virgin! (sigh)Today's women are reading about sex well before they engage in the act. Was Vanessa living in a cave all this time? It is more believable to come to the bed a virgin who has some reading knowledge about sex as opposed to Vanessa. Good story with a plot that moves - I am just tired of black romance writers using the old Barbara Cartland theme of having the lead female not be strong and invigorating in her personality - the shy, low esteem black woman just does not cut it for me.

3.0 out of 5 stars Can Say Maybe, November 14, 2011
This review is from: Can't Say No (Hardcover)
While I'm glad that Bette Ford has returned to the writing scene, I was a little disappointed in this last installment of the Prescott series. This book was just ok. I liked both Vanessa and Ralph, but felt that despite having been friends for years, that neither knew each other as well they thought.

I understand that Ralph was a player, but when his actions demonstrated that he was turning over a new leaf, why couldn't Vanessa act on present actions instead of hitting him over the head with his past?

While the story moved at a good pace, I felt like the author kept saying the same thing, over and over again. "You're my rock, my friend, my lover, and my family loves you, I secretly love you, but despite your actions speaking clearly to your love for me, I can't move beyond your past".

I read all three in this series and bar none - Unforgettable was the BEST!
Here's hoping her next novel captures my interest like that one did

What a great way to end the Prescott trilogy. Who would have thought that womanizing Ralph Prescott would finally bite the love bullet. Reading about Ralph in the previous books, and reading about him in this one are two totally different experiences. He was the total opposite of what I expected. Vanessa really changed this man for the better. He really stepped up when she needed him, and shocked Vanessa in the process. Thank you Bette Ford for wrapping the Prescott's up on a high note. I can't wait to read more from you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply Lovely, October 27, 2010
This review is from: Can't Say No (Mass Market Paperback)
This was a great book. Once again, Ms. Ford did an excellent job. This is the story of Ralph Prescott, those who have read her previous books know Ralph as Devin(An Everlasting Love), Anna(Unforgettable), and Wesley's "player" cousin. Ralph is know as a ladies man, he enjoys his single life and has no intentions on ever settling down. Vanessa Grant is a fun-loving, shy, family orientated woman. Her goals are focused on raising her 3 younger siblings. As maid of honor to her best friend, Brynne, she is forced to make plans for wedding parties with the very handsome, very single, Ralph Prescott. During their interactions as maid of honor & best man, Vanessa develops a crush on Ralph. Being inexperienced with men, and very shy, she's sure there's no chance of her ever winning his heart so she devises a plan to spend on night in the arms of her dream man. After that one night things begin to take a drastic turn for Ralph, he's feeling things he's never felt with any other woman. Confused by his feelings he sets out to discover just what it is about Vanessa that is causing these strange feelings, but Vanessa is not having it. She knows what kind of man he is and she is not impressed with his fame or wealth. When an unexpected event pops up in Vanessa's life she turns to Ralph. Will this be the chance Ralph has been waiting on to show Vanessa that his feels are real? Or will she forever see him as the womanizer he's been all his life? This book will definitely hold your attention and make you believe in love. I really enjoyed it!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Say yes to Can't Say No, February 11, 2009
This review is from: Can't Say No (Mass Market Paperback)
Bette Ford is and has always been one of my favorite romance writers and this one is definitely a keeper. This is the story of Vanessa and Ralph Prescott and how they find they can't resist each other. The two meet through mutual friends (see Ford's other books) and Vanessa is instantly attracted to him but knows that he is a rich playboy, not someone who could ever take a shy, voluptuous woman with a ready made family seriously. Ralph, a former NBA player now turned business man has no plans for love or marriage and he is happily single yet there is something about Vanessa that he can't resist. Can Vanessa and Ralph fight their attraction to each other or will they give in to their desires and say yes to one another.

Ford does an excellent job here with the characters, sparks, and dialogue. She really knows how to tell a story and gives her characters depth, making them very likeable. This was well worth the wait and I recommend this book to all romance lovers.
