Good for the genre, but this band has some growing room.,
This review is from: You Can't Spell Slaughter Without Laughter (Audio CD)
This CD offers nothing specatacularly innovative to the indie-electronica screaming genre. Everything is done decently, the melodies stick, the screaming is well executed, the clean vocals are decent, and there is enough order in the chaos of electronic noises, guitar, and drums to showcase their inherent talent. Some of the songs on this album are brilliantly put together, with an almost orderless cacophony of synth sounds and screaming- flowingly seemlessly into a driving breakdown or catchy melody. On the other hand, some of the songs are wrought with such ridiculous lyrics and/or lack any kind of melody or cohesive sound, that they are worse than filler, they are worth deleting to avoid the annoyance of having to press a button to skip them everytime they come up, which you will. This band shows great potential, but I can't, in good concious, give this album a higher review, when there are several tracks on this already short album, that are complete garbage. This cd is worth the purchase price, and I expect, with their growing success, they will have a little more production value in their next album.

Finally Something Refreshing To A Scene That Was Sounding The Same,
This review is from: You Can't Spell Slaughter Without Laughter (MP3 Download)
I stumbled across the name of this band online and became curious because it was such a outragious name. So I went to their myspace page and my ears heard something I hadn't heard in a long time, something different/original. I was first suprised that the band consisted of two members, and that alot of the sounds were programmed. So when I went to their myspace page, I just hit play on their music player and to my shock, the music was catchy, heavy, brutal, and even melodic. Now don't think this is another iwrestledabearonce, far from it. To me this band represents at times what a screamo band should sound like, catchy, emotional, and makes you wanna sing along, or scream. I grew up on poison the well so when I think screamo, alot of what is considered screamo today to me isn't. Now I set my friends on fire deliver's a screamo feel that I had forgotten about. For example the song, things that rhyme with orange has to be one of the best songs I have heard in a long time. Now they also deliver on bringing the heavy and grind, and even smack you with some breakdowns. This cd gives you everything and in the best jaw dropping way. They do not ruin any genre, and have impressed me very much. I can't wait to see what their next album sounds like.

This album has been in my regular rotation since it was released. Every song on the album is fun and does something different: there's rap, metal-breakdowns, cheesy 80's sounding pop, and even a synth-induced interlude. Sure, there are some songs that are better than others; however, as long as you go into this album with an open mind you will not be disappointed. Everyone who gave this below three stars needs to rethink why they listen to music in the first place.

Wow is all I could say,
This review is from: You Can't Spell Slaughter Without Laughter (MP3 Download)
This is the most original band I've ever heard. It's a mix of techno, screamo and pop. I first heard ismfof on a smosh video on youtube and I was very surprised. Their lyrics are very random and all the instuments are done on computers. This band has a ton of potential and is great for people starting to get into screamo.

ISMFOF,
This review is from: You Can't Spell Slaughter Without Laughter (Audio CD)
I stumbled upon ISMFOF when my girlfriend showed me a video on youtube featuring "Smosh." I was a bit unsure about this band at first, but I kept on humming the chorus to "Sex Ed Rocks" in my head all day so I had to at least check them out a little more. So, I made the decision to purchase the cd on a whim. I am actually very glad that I did. I am not normally a person to buy cd's and more or less ones that have so much screaming in them, but there is something different about this cd. I found myself addicted to the singer's voice. When he sings it really matches the music and it sounds amazing. It's so sweet that this band only consists of 2 guys. I agree that the lyrics don't make much sense, but I guess it's just the fact that I haven't heard music like this before and it's quite refreshing. It's refreshing because there are so many bands out there that sound the same, and I am very glad to hear a band that disconnects from the Screamo/metal genre. ISMFOF combines heavy metal, screaming, rock, and electronica to make a sound so unique you can't control yourself listening to more. I have listened to this album 3 times in a row and I can't stop. I highly recommend songs "Things that Rhyme with Orange" and "WTFWJD" If you are tired of the same screamo/metal genre, give I Set My Friends on Fire a shot, you might, or might not love them, but you can't deny that they are talented and original.

I love this band they are amazing and have alot of potential don't be haters this band is fun and exciting something new and sounds different. They are good but i still do prefer Attack Attack! and Bring me the Horizon. Suicide Season is the best cd i've ever paid for and Someday Came Suddenly is right behind it with this one third it had alot to compete with so i felt third place wasn't so bad you know.

A Different Flavor of a Tired Dish,
By
This review is from: You Can't Spell Slaughter Without Laughter (Audio CD)
This CD has it all- breakdowns, blastbeats, indie rock, electro-pop, synth noise, screamed/sung/growled/babbled vocals. And plenty of pretentious, witty, sarcastic, soul-searching-sing-along scene-ready earnestness that will appeal to hipper-than-thou suburban white kids. They do a goofball tongue-in-cheek rendition of Souljah Boy's "Crank That" but add a different spin that is cute but corny, and the song titles are "like, so random and clever, omg these guys are killer wordsmiths." These songs are exactly what the edgier-than-normal coffee shop crowd wants, and while it certainly is fun and has some brilliant moments, I just can't get over the smarmy bleeding-heart emotional desperation that seems tailor-made to make scene girls eyes sparkle and scene boys hardcore dance. This type of sound wore out its welcome a long time ago.
