Crack open an encyclopedia and look up 'Dancehall Singer' and the first picture you'll see is Beres Hammond with that old leather hat on his head. Beres Hammond has that quintessential voice, dancehall wouldn't be quite the same without him at all. His tunes make Americans wish they were laying on the beach and Jamaicans wish they were sitting in their mother's kitchens or dancing with their special person.
You can't go wrong with this Ultimate Collection with 39 tunes strong on the double cd dating back to 1976 there is something for pretty much everyone. If you're really a diehard fan you may have an obscure favourite that isn't available here, (like myself, wondering where the combination with Lady G, 'Have Them In A Cirle' was)but for the most part all of his bigger tunes are here; One Step Ahead, What One Dance Can Do, Putting Up Resistance, Full Attention, Double Trouble, Step Aside and Who Say with Buju Banton and thats just the first disc. Disc 2 features newer hits from the past 10 years as tunes like Can't Stop a Man, Love From a Distance, Warriors Dont Cry, Can You Play Some More, Come Down Father, They Gonna Talk, Rockaway, Ain't it Good to Know and even a new song with Big Youth (Dancehall Vibes) and Giving Thanks. All of that being said my absolute favourite tune on this project and my favourite Beres tune ever is No Disturb Sign, the tune is actually a romantic song, but it just generally makes you feel good.
Overall, of course this is a must-have, a definite, if you are a fan of just good music, its a perfect thing to have, the dancehall fan of course, but the R&B fan as well. The patois isnt too heavy at all so everyone should be able to understand everything and it sounds like general R&B at points. And on a side-note, this project along with the Sizzla project of last year that was very similar, represent an area in which VPRecords may need to focus more of their attention in producing greatest hits compilations. And surely it might be a great thing to have more VP staple artists with a higher standing to have pieces like this dedicated to them (with Beenie Man already having a double and Lady Saw having a single, next year might be perfect for the Prophet to see the release of his).
Anyway, thats my review, now you do yourself a favour and go get this!

Beres Hammond, Beres Hammond, Beres Hammond. He is the greatest smoothest romantic voice I have heard in a while. For sure their "ain't nothing like good all dance hall vibes" his music is definetly as sweet as wine. It's weird that i had no idea who had sang some of my favorite reggae love songs because most were in compilation CD's that friends had given me. When I actually did a little research to find out who actually sang the songs, I found out that most of them were by Mr.Beres. For that reason, I went out and bought "can't stop a man, the best of" I absolutely loved the CD. It makes you want to cry and smile and if you are in love, it makes you fall even furthur. EVEN BETTER it sometimes can do all the talking for you. ALL I HAVE TO SAY IS BUY IT!

Beres Hammond is known around the world for his smooth reggae vibe. This collection of his best features the hits "No Disturb Sign", "Pull it Up", "What one dance can do", "They gonna talk", and many more. The only song missing is "Reggae Calling" from the In Control album. That song would have definately made this compilation complete. Even if you are not a reggae fan, check out this album and you will experience the sweet vibes of reggae...

Two thumbs way up... and if I had a third thumb, it'd be up to! A fantastic compilation comprising three decades of timeless classics and new hits. If you like good (reggae) music, I promise you'll love this album.

Unfortunately, only 39 songs could hold on the 2 disc set which didn't leave any room for "Mary Mary", "Honey Wine & Love Songs", "Let It Go" and "Angel Eyes". Nevertheless a must have for music lovers.

Well done VP. This is the best CD in my collection. These are the only CD's that i've played in my car since December! Trust me, you'll love it.

With songs like "One Step Ahead" and "What one dance can do", you'll find that these tunes truly will groove your musical soul. The lyrics are easy to follow...and the sensuality of each song is coined in a very non-abrasive way.

This is by far the best compilation from this somewhat under rated BUT extreemly talented artist. This CD carries the hits from yesteryear up until the present. Definately a collecor's item.

Beres Hammond by far is the best when it comes to Lover's Rock. As a youngster, my generation is all too much infatuated with Reggae and know so little about it. If you say you know Reggae and the name Beres Hammond doesn't ring a bell then you DON'T KNOW REGGAE!!!! Beres has been such an inspiration to me. This Ultimate Collection is a must have for Reggae lovers.

May God continue to allow Beres Hammond to keep making music that touches people in so many ways.

This CD set contains the best of the Beres Hammond's songs! Beres is the next best thing since Bob Marley! What a sweet voice, intelligent & uplifting lyrics and a total positive vibe from this collection.

Beres Hammond has been the backbone of Reggae Music for years and this cd shows why. There are a number of songs which could also considered the best but I guess those will come out on Part II, if they were added to this selection this would be a 4 disc box set.
