Format: Audio CD
Toby Keith's guitarist Scotty Emerick does not have the gruff and the grit in his vocal delivery as his buddy and co-producer. Instead, this songwriter turned singer (his writing credit include cuts by Keith, Sawyer Brown, Rodney Atkins amongst others) has a smooth tenor with traces of Mark Chesnutt without the nasal twang. First cut by Toby Keith on his "Pull My Chain" CD is the melodious midtempo "I Can't Take You Anywhere." Emerick's clever use of word play on this tune of heartbreak is the spotlight. While "The Coast Is Clear," a languorous island-infused number, sings home the homily of not taking life too seriously. Both singles here are catchy and they showcase Emerick's mettle as a lyricist. Unfortunately radio's lukewarm response has stifled the release of the Emerick's upcoming album where these two tracks have been culled. This has been a crime in itself. Nevertheless, these two songs really showcase Emerick as more than Keith's guitarist. Rather, he's a burgeoning artist in his own right.

I have been enjoying "I Can't Take You Anywhere" on the radio for months, and it is so great to be able to have my own copy of it at last! Scotty Emerick has co-written some of my favorite Toby Keith songs, and now he is singing one of my favorite songs! He is a very talented songwriter and singer. I expect we will be seeing great things from him for years to come.

I have enjoyed Emerick's songwriting skills for a couple of years now and it is so wonderful that he finally has a cd of his own! I've heard him sing with Toby and I think he has a wonderful voice! "I can't take you anywhere" is one of my favorite songs!
