Cyrus worked with a number of producers on the album, including John Shanks. '7 Things' collaborators Tim James and Antonina Armato produced and co-wrote 'Can't Be Tamed', the first single, with the pop star. According to the label, 'Can't Be Tamed' is "a self-empowering song in which Miley asserts that she has to stay true to herself in relationships, and it is sure to become an anthem among her legions of fans around the world."

5.0 out of 5 stars Miley all grown up June 24, 2010
By Rebecca
Format:Audio CD
I think this CD is fantastic! Miley is growing up and these songs reflect the stage in life she is currently experiencing. And I love the mixing a lot of these songs have like "Liberty Walk" -- there's definitely a techno/electro/dance feel to a lot of the songs.
I LOVE "Can't Be Tamed." Even though everyone says she wants to be like Britney...I love Britney! Miley does a good job of making it her own song and expressing herself as a young woman.
I also like some more of the slow beat songs like "Stay," "Take Me Along," and "My Heart Beats For Love." If you listen to the lyrics closely, a majority being co-written by Miley, they simply express Miley as an 18-year-old woman dealing with relevant issues, like love.
I think it's a great CD!

Despite the rather poor reviews I read from the "professional" music critics, whether newspaper or television-based, this CD is anything but a failure in the eyes of this Miley Cyrus fan. Reading the reviews before this album came out left me with a rather negative and concerned vibe upon first sticking this disc in my CD player, but after a single listen I was rather pleased. After a dozen, two dozen, three dozen listens, I felt it would be appropriate to smack the critics aside the head with a frying pan to knock some sense into them, because this album is a strong release, whether or not it follows Miley's Hannah Montana-like pop formula people have come to expect from her.

And that's exactly the thing with this release: it's not Hannah Montana and it's not the music we heard on "Breakout." But it's not, as many people have said, Britney Spears, or any other pop star we've come across. It's still Miley Cyrus. Every song on the album was written, at least in part, by her, and the lyrics do have meaning. While many people see the image on the front cover of the album (or the more eye-catching image on the front of her "Can't Be Tamed" single) and make a snap judgment from it, I don't really feel the cover art is appropriate for what lies within the jewel case. I've heard the word "raunchy" thrown around, but the music is anything but that. I think for the most part this release is fit for many of the children who idolize Miley as Hannah Montana. The album's book has three photos of Miley, beautiful but not really inappropriate to any extent. Parents can check it out and give the disc a listen themselves first though.

There is an even mix of pop and dance beats as well as the ballads in which Miley shows off her true talent.

5.0 out of 5 stars Miley Cyrus is a pleasure to listen to!!! June 21, 2010
By Elliott
Format:Audio CD
I love all of Miley Cyrus's music, and this cd doesn't disappoint at all! Every song is wonderfully sung, has amazing beats, ballads and shows how much Miley has matured in her music, and is finding more of her own style of music. Her new album doesn't have one song that you want to skip over at all, and once you start listening to it...you will never want to stop. Her last cd's made me appreciate her singing and lyrical talent, but this cd made me love her music...even more. I love the cover of Poisons "Every Rose Has It's Thorn." She has terrific vocals on there, and the acoustic guitar is terrifically played on that song.

It is such a different, but amazingly new sound for Miley Cyrus, and a way to stretch her musical ability. This will be one of my top favorite albums of the year, and I can't wait to see more of what Miley has up her sleeve. She gets five stars, because she gets getting better, and has more of a promising future with finding out different styles of music that she can perform beautifully.

4.0 out of 5 stars guilty pleasure November 14, 2010
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
A little of a Guilty Pleasure for sure. I am so out of MILEY's demographic for sure. I am not "in love" with every song on the CD but I work in the middle of the night and most of this CD keeps me moving. I can see a few of these songs on a workout playlist. Not a grammy winning CD but fun non the less

3.0 out of 5 stars Miley's Growing Up August 6, 2010
By Coastie
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
This CD is not for the Hannah Montana crowd, it's got a rough edge and is clearly a wish on her part to bring an end to her link with the blond wig. That said, she might just have a career in the more adult music world if she can distance herself far enough from Hannah, but her core fan base is associated with the character and she probably should have done one more CD like her previous one that got her younger fans use to newer music. Actually looking at the talent in her age group she's probably one of the more talented, and this CD is fine for the young adult fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars My Heart Beats for This Album June 23, 2010
Format:Audio CD
I'm not talking about Miley growing up as in getting older, but there's no doubt that she grew as an artist.
The cover doesn't help the album sell because she just looks slutty, but the songs are so profound and the albus is worth its price.
The best tracks are: 1,4,5,7,9,11,and 12.
All the trcks talk about love and how it changes people. Miley has a great career infront of her.
Buy this album, won't regret it.

4.0 out of 5 stars She can't be 12 years old forever... June 27, 2010
Format:Audio CD
Well, she is growing up (and has been for the last few years). Disney really ought to stop milking the Hannah Montana franchise and let her move on to being just Miley. Let her make an episode where she goes off to college and end the series. There are always new kids to make famous and to be role models for little girls and little boys aged 6 to 14, but Miley is beyond that now. Her last two albums and this one prove that. While much of it is over produced "dance music" along the lines of Christina Aquilera and countless other female pop singers, Miley still has an instantly recognizable voice. I'm older than most fans I'm sure and only listen to her music because the kids of some of the girls I date do, and it is a guilty pleasure to listen and turn up a few tracks in the car and remember what it was like to be 18.

Hopefully if she spends a few years away from pop music soon after touring to support this album, she can reinvent herself. It will be interesting to see what she comes back as. Perhaps she will get into acting in a more serious way. Or perhaps come back as more of a less "dance music" oriented singer (not that there is anything wrong with that, as it is a music niche to be filled), but she obviously has the pipes to get around a song - any song - and do it justice.

Good luck to her and I hope she doesn't go off the deep in as the hormones kick in, and that she doesn't become another Britney Spears or Paris Hilton, known more for being slutty and famous than for doing anything of real note.
