1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
Her voice quality doesn't come through on this at all, and its too bad that as she is looking for a more mature audience-- she thinks she has to go for the "rebel" look and sound. I would much rather see her mature and grow as a young successful and confident professional and try to keep some of the fan base she already has. There are one or two good songs on this, but...

This review is from: Can't Be Tamed [CD / DVD Combo] [Deluxe Edition] (Audio CD)
[I'll start off by saying that this is a review of the content itself - not whether or not Miley is a good role model, etc.. Any parents reading this should make the decision for themselves on whether or not it's appropriate for their child]

With that out of the way, I was surprised with the nice treatment this set got in the Deluxe Edition. Usually these consist of a couple B-Sides tracks or remixes from a past album. The deluxe edition here adds a professional concert DVD to the mix for only a couple bucks more!

The music itself is a mix of different styles - some pop, classic rock, alternative rock and electronic/techno pop. I found it to be a good mix of everything, but unless you love all genres of music, you'll probably find your few favorites and stick with those (skipping past the others -- for example, most people who like the faster pop/techno songs might just skip the slower pop/classic rock styled songs). To me, the album is about a 3.5 - 4.0 out of 5. Some catchy songs, some "skippers", but everyones opinion will vary. You can get a good idea by listening to the previews on the Amazon MP3 page for this album. The album itself is rather short - 12 songs clocking in at under 45 minutes.

The big bonus with this set, is the DVD which is over twice as long! This is a full-blown concert DVD with high production values; something you'd normally find by itself for more than the cost of this set. The disc has some behind the scenes content and a full concert (19 songs, about 100 minutes in length). The video quality is very good - anamorphic widescreen even (a big plus as even today a lot of concert DVDs are non-anamorphic -- the difference, for anyone unaware, is that on a Widescreen TV an Anamorphic DVD will have no bars, a non-anamorphic DVD will have bars on all 4 sides (top, bottom, left, right)).

Audio is also very good - options are available for Stereo or Surround 5.1.

Unlike most pop-concerts, the one on this disc is live singing (no lip-syncing), professionally shot and features a lot of her past hits/songs. Full listing for the songs on the DVD are:
1. BREAKOUT
2. START ALL OVER
3. 7 THINGS
4. KICKING AND SCREAMING
5. BOTTOM OF THE OCEAN
6. FLY ON THE WALL
7. LET'S GET CRAZY
8. HOEDOWN THROWDOWN
9. THESE FOUR WALLS
10. WHEN I LOOK AT YOU
11. OBSESSED
12. SPOTLIGHT
13. GNO
14. I LOVE ROCK AND ROLL
15. PARTY IN THE USA
16. HOVERING
17. SIMPLE SONG
18. SEE YOU AGAIN
19. THE CLIMB

Unfortunately, and I hate it when Concert DVDs do this, the concert isn't a full concert from beginning to end. You get to hear a song or two before it cuts to interviews and other clips of Miley. While these are great to have, they work much better on their own (before the concert, after the concert or in the special features -- don't mix them into the concert!)

Overall a very good set. I can't say how much everyone will actually like it, you'll need to decide for yourself (check the Amazon MP3 page for samples though!). I think that with the Deluxe Edition, even fans of her past music will appreciate it, even if just for the DVD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Miley all grown up, June 24, 2010
This review is from: Can't Be Tamed [CD / DVD Combo] [Deluxe Edition] (Audio CD)
I think this CD is fantastic! Miley is growing up and these songs reflect the stage in life she is currently experiencing. And I love the mixing a lot of these songs have like "Liberty Walk" -- there's definitely a techno/electro/dance feel to a lot of the songs.
I LOVE "Can't Be Tamed." Even though everyone says she wants to be like Britney...I love Britney! Miley does a good job of making it her own song and expressing herself as a young woman.
I also like some more of the slow beat songs like "Stay," "Take Me Along," and "My Heart Beats For Love." If you listen to the lyrics closely, a majority being co-written by Miley, they simply express Miley as an 18-year-old woman dealing with relevant issues, like love.
I think it's a great CD!

This review is from: Can't Be Tamed [CD / DVD Combo] [Deluxe Edition] (Audio CD)
Despite the rather poor reviews I read from the "professional" music critics, whether newspaper or television-based, this CD is anything but a failure in the eyes of this Miley Cyrus fan. Reading the reviews before this album came out left me with a rather negative and concerned vibe upon first sticking this disc in my CD player, but after a single listen I was rather pleased. After a dozen, two dozen, three dozen listens, I felt it would be appropriate to smack the critics aside the head with a frying pan to knock some sense into them, because this album is a strong release, whether or not it follows Miley's Hannah Montana-like pop formula people have come to expect from her.

And that's exactly the thing with this release: it's not Hannah Montana and it's not the music we heard on "Breakout." But it's not, as many people have said, Britney Spears, or any other pop star we've come across. It's still Miley Cyrus. Every song on the album was written, at least in part, by her, and the lyrics do have meaning. While many people see the image on the front cover of the album (or the more eye-catching image on the front of her "Can't Be Tamed" single) and make a snap judgment from it, I don't really feel the cover art is appropriate for what lies within the jewel case. I've heard the word "raunchy" thrown around, but the music is anything but that. I think for the most part this release is fit for many of the children who idolize Miley as Hannah Montana. The album's book has three photos of Miley, beautiful but not really inappropriate to any extent. Parents can check it out and give the disc a listen themselves first though.

There is an even mix of pop and dance beats as well as the ballads in which Miley shows off her true talent. Rock Mafia-produced "Who Owns My Heart" and "Can't Be Tamed," although both still great songs, seem to be obvious radio singles and little more than that; "Liberty Walk" could possibly be included in this category. For Cyrus, I feel they're weak songs, both creatively and lyrically, and the fact that such songs will likely be among the few that non-Miley fans will hear off this disc, this becomes a sad fact. Miley is facing some criticism for her use of auto-tune, especially in the aforementioned songs, but makes it clear in the other songs that this is only for creative purposes and that without a doubt she could go without auto-tune. The cover of Poison's "Every Rose Has Its Thorn" is quite decent, although obviously unoriginal. "Two More Lonely People" reminds me a great deal of some rather inescapable past Hannah Montana material and the ballads "Forgiveness and Love" and "Stay" are top-notch and beautiful, both with a pop country feel. Of all twelve songs, in my own personal opinion, "Permanent December" and "Take Me Along" are by far the best songs on this album, followed by "Robot." Listening from start to finish, it's a great album.

The DVD in the Deluxe Edition includes a great mix of 17 minutes of time with Miley off-stage as well as the performance of the full set list of the Wonder World Tour as performed the week before Christmas 2009 for an attendance-record crowd at the O2 in London. The total running time is 100 minutes.

This DVD is a must-have for any Miley Cyrus fan (or even any Hannah Montana fan). It is professionally produced, most obviously live without lip-synching, and enjoyable throughout with plenty of nice added extras. This concert DVD could have easily been released as a stand-alone product to bring in far more revenue, so the addition of this DVD to the "Can't Be Tamed" album for mere dollars extra is an awesome plus.

Having been a loyal, although not obsessive, Miley fan for some years, watching this DVD cemented her in my mind as a truly fabulous performer able to perform country, pop, and rock effortlessly with raw talent where many others stand undeservingly on stage. She has absolutely amazed me and won me over with this.

This concert is full of energy, numerous wardrobe changes, a few nice ballad moments, and a few seriously impressive screams.

5.0 out of 5 stars Miley Cyrus is a pleasure to listen to!!!, June 21, 2010
This review is from: Can't Be Tamed [CD / DVD Combo] [Deluxe Edition] (Audio CD)
I love all of Miley Cyrus's music, and this cd doesn't disappoint at all! Every song is wonderfully sung, has amazing beats, ballads and shows how much Miley has matured in her music, and is finding more of her own style of music. Her new album doesn't have one song that you want to skip over at all, and once you start listening to it...you will never want to stop. Her last cd's made me appreciate her singing and lyrical talent, but this cd made me love her music...even more. I love the cover of Poisons "Every Rose Has It's Thorn." She has terrific vocals on there, and the acoustic guitar is terrifically played on that song.

It is such a different, but amazingly new sound for Miley Cyrus, and a way to stretch her musical ability. This will be one of my top favorite albums of the year, and I can't wait to see more of what Miley has up her sleeve. She gets five stars, because she gets getting better, and has more of a promising future with finding out different styles of music that she can perform beautifully.

5.0 out of 5 stars My Heart Beats for This Album, June 23, 2010
This review is from: Can't Be Tamed [CD / DVD Combo] [Deluxe Edition] (Audio CD)
I'm not talking about Miley growing up as in getting older, but there's no doubt that she grew as an artist.
The cover doesn't help the album sell because she just looks slutty, but the songs are so profound and the albus is worth its price.
The best tracks are: 1,4,5,7,9,11,and 12.
All the trcks talk about love and how it changes people. Miley has a great career infront of her.
Buy this album, won't regret it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great new music and dvd from miley cyrus, August 8, 2010
This review is from: Can't Be Tamed [CD / DVD Combo] [Deluxe Edition] (Audio CD)
This cd/dvd combo is great.

The Cant be Tamed CD is way way better than the critics will have you believe.

Before its release Miley described the Cant be tamed album as a pop record and summer music and a bit of everything which is exactly what it is. If you don't like Cant be Tamed as a single you will find a lot more tracks on this cd to like as Cant be tamed is really not typical of the other tracks.

Standout tracks are Liberty walk, Who owns my heart, Permanent December, Every Rose has its thorn, Robot and My heart beats for love but all the tracks are good and what you like most at each listening will depend on your mood.

For those of us that missed the O2 concert, the DVD is great and you can watch it or listen to the cd and dvd many times and still come back for more. You get all the Miley classics (Breakout, 7 things, Fly on the wall, Start all over, See you again), some Hannah Montana The Movie stuff (Hoedown Throwdown, Let's get Crazy, The Climb) plus many tracks from the Time of our Lives cd and the best song of the concert - I love rock and roll.

So the verdict is: Great work Miley - really good - 5 stars. How about a Rock in Rio concert dvd next?

4.0 out of 5 stars Splendid album, amazing songs and excelent DVD, but it could have had more, January 7, 2011
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Can't Be Tamed [CD / DVD Combo] [Deluxe Edition] (Audio CD)
I really love this album, it includes awesome hits featuring a new pop style by Miley Cyrus, which I love more than her old one. The Deluxe DVD is excelent, I love Miley's singing and I loved watching interviews and backstage as well. I would have liked at least 1 bonus track to make a complete Deluxe edition, but I think it turned out great anyway. So here's the song rating out of 10:

Liberty Walk - 9.5/10 This song rocks, good start for the album, and it has a great message, about the rights of escaping from someone who has treated you horrible, the best start for Miley's album about liberating.
Who Owns My Heart - 8.5/10 I really like it, it's catchy, about being confused of who's your love, I saw the music video and it fits awesome.
Can't Be Tamed - 8/10 The title track, it's a good song, but not very powerful to be the first single and music video, maybe that's why the album didn't sell much copies at first, it's about Miley escaping from someone who's giving her too much rules, someone who's making her uncomfortable, someone who's TAMING her :)
Every Rose Has Its Thorn - 9/10 This is the only song she didn't write, she made this Poison cover and I love it, it's really sweet.
Two More Lonely People - 7.5/10 This song is just great, not that powerful but it's nice, like about a breakup.
Forgiveness And Love - 10/10 This is a SWEET song! :D. This is a mix of many things, about forgiving, about the love, about dreams, it makes it a song about making peace combining forgiveness, love and dreams. I'd like this as the next single.
Permanent December - 10/10 This song rocks, it's so catchy! I love the beat.
Stay - 9/10 I love this ballad, about living hardly without someone, missing that someone and wanting it to stay.
Scars - 6/10 This is my least favorite song, but I still like it a bit, I don't listen to it that much so I can't tell too much, just a completely different style from ''Stay'', not a ballad at all.
Take Me Along - 11/10 Now THIS is my favorite song, best ballad of the album (the second best one is Stay ;D) This can identify a lot of people, who had someone going away without taking them, even if it's about love, it can also be about friendship or even family life, it's a really nice song. I think this could have been a better end for the record than ''My Heart Beats For Love''.
Robot - 9.5/10 This is an awesome song, it's like Can't Be Tamed in the message about trying to be free, but this time it's more powerful and it has a LOT more energy, this could have worked out better for a first single than Can't Be Tamed.
My Heart Beats For Love - 7/10 This song is sweet, but it could have worked better if it was in the place of ''Take Me Along'', and Take Me along in this place to close, or if not, a bonus track to be added in the Deluxe edition like I said in the beggining.

Anyways, the music and DVD are really great, but as I've said it could have been better with an addition of bonus tracks, and with a bit different order of tracks, but awesome. This gets 4/5 in total.
