Operación Triunfo (OT) is a popular talent-search TV show in Spain, similar in format to the later U.S. series "American Idol."

This set features singers from the addictive first season of OT (2001-2002), including two who have since become known in the U.S. Latin music market: David Bisbal and David Bustamante.

On disc 1, OT contestants sing songs from Disney cartoons (in European Spanish, of course). These range from ballads to an infectiously upbeat rendition of "Bajo el mar" ("Under the Sea") and a catchy duet on "Busca lo más vital, no más" ("The Bare Necessities").

Disc two contains highlights from the OT concert galas. There are about five cuts on disc two that I've played repeatedly, including cover recordings of "Desde la oscuridad" ("Coming Out of the Dark"), "Entre mis recuerdos" and "Acuarela." A few of the cuts on disc 2 are in English (the TV series emphasized that to make it in the international music market, one must know some English). The voices are strong, but some contestants' English pronunciation still needed work at the time of the recording.

All in all, a fun set from back before the two Davids and Rosa and Chenoa were households names in Spain.

I love this CD. For those of you, like me, who watched operación Triunfo, this was one of their best efforts. It doesn't hurt that it has some of the best songs from the other "Galas".
