Martinho is not well known for the U.S. audiences. However, he is one of the most important and beloved sambistas
in Brasil. He marked an era, and a huge contribution to the MPB (Musica Popular Brasileira), and if anyone asks a Brazilian of my generation, there will be no one that his musical contribution and artistry have not been touched by. His music is happy, fun, joyful, makes us dance, and feel connected to the shared experience of an everyday Brazilian, from appreciating the beauty of our women, to the grace of their rhythm, to the impromptu gatherings to celebrate just about anything, to the adding water to the feijao, our beans and rice staple, because Brazilians carry the generosity and optimism in their beings. I loove Martinho da Vila, and am very sad that this particular CD is no longer available!

in general i'm not the biggest MDV fan. On this disc it all comes together though. he's at peak vocal form, the band is tight, and the melodies are ascendant. just look at the cover -- you know you're in for a soulful trip on this disc. recommended

Al principio Martinho no me gustaba para nada. Hasta que hace pocos días escuché este disco. Empieza y termina con todo. La canción del título "Canta Canta Minha Gente" es una samba fabulosa, al igual que las canciones que siguen. Con Martinho uno se da cuenta que la samba no es sólo fiesta: hay tristeza, hay crítica social, hay música y arreglos complejos. Muito legal!
