If you are a collector of Roberto Carlos music, from his days of experimentation to now, this might be for you. If not, and you love the music he switched to when he realized love songs are his forte, both in writing and singing, then you will not want this album. The instrumentation is so dated, it made me wince and I could not listen through each track, for that alone. He definitely was testing the water for rock with this album and I suspect it's failure kept fans from encouraging him to continue in this vein. There aren't too many of these albums, but this is one you will want to pass on if you love his voice and the songs that have risen him to the level of greatness over the years. The one good thing that comes from the losses RC has experienced in his life, right up to April of 2010, have spurred him to write more beautiful songs with messages of love, loss and pathos. He tells us to never take those we love for granted, to never make them cry, to be at their side when needed (a quote from another reviewer and I couldn't say it better). This is a universal message and speaks volumes to the young people of today who tend to call romance "cheesy" and treat it with disrespect. This particular album is forgettable but there are so many beautiful albums from this great artist, that you won't have to look far in Amazon to find one. If you are a purist who loves RC's music in Portugese, you have to be careful, because my search has revealed there are more in Spanish than in his mother tongue. Continue your search - but this is not where you want to begin if you are in the throes of learning about Roberto Carlos. This album was an experiment when he was quite young and hadn't found his footing yet. Once he did find his niche, he became and remains an icon in the Latin music world and at one point, outsold even the Beatles. He and Erasmos Carlos have written more music than any other song writers - ever. So you have much beautiful music to find that will touch your heart and awaken feelings you thought long dormant. This album is not one of them. |
