5.0 out of 5 stars Triste, March 20, 2002
Triste means "sad" in Portugese, and sad I am that Antonio Carlos Jobim is no longer with us. This two CD set featuring the songs of Jobim performed by Gal Costa is probably the greatest tribute to Jobim I have heard and it has been my pleasure to own. The light and lovely music that is 100% Brazilian. Though the CD is in Portugese the magic of the song's original language shines. All the Jobim hits are here Including Corcavado, Desfinado, Triste, Samba De Avio, and one of my all time Jobim favorites Dindi (ginGee). Ms. Costa voice is truly a wonderful instrument. I have CD's where Ms. Costa and Jobim perform Duets, there is a wonderful friendship there and here. One of the most striking performances is "Felicdade" from the winner of best picture of the 1958 Cannes film festival "The Black Orpheus"the magic occurs half way through. the song when the audience starts singing with Ms. Costa truly a magic moment recorded for history. The Black Orpheus introduced the world to the works of Mr. Jobim, and Luis Bonfa. As an old Bing Crosby and Andrews sisters song from Road to Rio says "You don't have to Know the Language.
