About the Author
FRAY ANGÉLICO CHÁVEZ (1910-1996) was a Franciscan priest, poet, historian, translator, and visual artist. His numerous books include My Penitente Land: Reflections on Spanish New Mexico and The Short Stories of Fray Angélico Chávez (edited by Genaro Padilla).
NASARIO GARCÍA is Professor of Languages at New Mexico Highlands University in Las Vegas. As native New Mexican, he has served on the Board of Directors of the New Mexico Endowment for the Humanities. His books include Más Antes: Hispanic Folklore of the Rio Puerco Valley and Brujas, Bultos, y Brasas: Tales of Witchcraft and the Supernatural in Pecos Valley.
